These cottages are right on the best beach of Basse-terre; The grande anse. The cottages are a bit rustic, in that they don't have screens, they are a bit dark but they are comfortably furnished and very clean. There are only 7 cottages and each is a bit different. This is a very unique spot. Staying at Tainos is like no other. We quickly fell into the routine of the warm croissants, expresso followed by a 1 minute walk to the beach. The family who runs the resort are warm, giving and immensely helpful. This is not the Four Seasons. There are a few mosquitos, sometimes the water pressure is not all you need but laying in bed and listening to the waves, occasional rainstorms and the birds is beyond compare. You are truly away.

On one of the best beaches on the island, Tainos Cottages offers you the best location and access to Grand Anse beach. Your cottage comes furnished with a mini fridge, a nicely appointed wardrobe, and a shower stall with plenty of hot water and steady flow. Daily maid service is also included, as well as a lovely breakfast. We spent plenty of time enjoying the ocean views from the front porch, which is loaded with a hammock, bench and plenty of chairs. What really drew us to this hotel versus any other was the rustic yet beautifully romantic cottages with direct access to the beach, which is very unusual for the area. Next trip to Guadeloupe, we have to stay at Tainos Cottage. Just have to remember lots of bug repellent and an outlet converter. Oh, and thanks Charles Henri and Boris for an amazing trip!!

Large roomy cottages cooled by island breezes, no need for air conditioning, t.v. or phones. Delicious breakfast is served overlooking the sea and Grande Anse beach. The Tainos Cottages is a wonderful spot to get away for a refreshing break.

Largely on the strength of this article in the NY Times, http://travel.nytimes.com/2006/02/05/travel/05guadeloupe.html , my husband and I recently selected Tainos Cottages for our visit to Guadeloupe and we were thrilled with the choice. If you are looking for many dining options, beach activities and crowds found in large resorts, this is not your place. Tainos Cottages is a relatively quiet and peaceful place and the beach is not at all crowded. The cottages are ‘rustically elegant’ located in beautifully landscaped gardens on a hill. We stayed 3 days in one of the bungalows, and then after a regretted visit to the crowded beaches near St. Anne we returned one day later to spend a night in another bungalow. The bungalows and their verandas afford a great deal of privacy. Each bungalow was unique, and evidenced wonderful Indonesian craftsmanship and the owner's exquisite taste and eye for detail. The owner bought them in Indonesia, had them dismantled, shipped to Guadaloupe and then reassembled. To our delight, the rooms are cooled by the evening breezes rather than noisy air conditioners, and the bungalows have no telephones and no televisions. They had four poster beds, carpets and beautiful linens. There were no mosquitoes during our visit in January. Charles-Henri and his son Boris were delightful hosts. The breakfasts of fresh croissants, jams, fruit and eggs to order were perfect. With advance notice they arranged for a dinner on site, and for other evenings gave us good recommendations for restaurants in nearby Deschaies. We will definitely be back.
