I have seen Le Domaine de Malendure described as bungalows and wonder if the reviewer is not confusing the place with another of a similar name. The accomodations are very large, with a spacious entrance area, living room and bath on the first floor and a very large loft above for sleeping. There is a wide balcony off of the first floor with a view.
There are two such units in each building. There were single units below but I'm not sure whether they were part of the Domaine. The complex sits on the mountainside overlooking the sea by Pigeon Island.
I will never forget when I woke up in the middle of the night, looked up and saw a full moon reflected over the water. The drive up to the various levels where the buildings are located was so steep I couldn't believe it. We were at the very top and I had to ask the hotel employee to get my car down since there was no place to turn around and I was too scared to back it down the road. There is a beautiful pool, bar/lounge, restaurant area but it's quite a hike up and down the steps if you're located at the top. You might seriously consider requesting a room that is not on one of the top two levels. But we loved the place.
The food in the restaurant was very good, mainly French but also Caribbean cuisine, however, the service left something to be desired. I don't think the staff was very well trained but they made up for it in friendliness and willingness to please. That was two years ago, 2001, so service might have improved since then. I would definitely stay there again.
