“Unbelievably Romantic, luxurious, and Secluded”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2012

This is such a beautiful location, a hidden gem off the beaten path. We spent our Honeymoon in Grenada with 1/2 the time split between La Luna and the other half at Spice Island Beach Resort. Both places were 5 star; la luna is more exotic and private while SIBR is super posh and romantic. My only complaint, which turned out to be a wonderful experience was with the locals on the beach trying to sell us their wares. We were "bothered" by Tom, who was really nice, but relentless in trying to sell us something. We eventually caved and while we were talking he mentioned that he would be happy to give us a private tour of the island. So, with some hesitation, we agreed. Sure enough, the next morning there he was with a rental car to cart us around the place. He took us all over the island, including downtown to try locally made Roti (amazing), a farmer's market where we bought lots of local spices, St George's Medial school, on a hike to a beautiful waterfall, to various beaches, a great nighttime music festival with the locals, and of course provided us with a more history about the island than i can even remember. The locals are just as lovely as the scenery, and i would go back a 1,000 times. Each time I would i would make sure to stay at both La Luna and Spice Island.

“Get there...FAST!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 December 2011

La Luna is the best place we've ever stayed.

Bernardo, Wendy and Anthony run a perfect getaway destination on Grenada. The property is beautiful, immaculate, well-maintained and right on the nicest beach you can imagine. The staff we encountered- Tracy, Nesha, Lystra, Urban, Fletcher, Kimberly, and everyone else (!) bring a high level of friendly, helpful and genuinely kind guest services you can imagine. They will become like family members in no time. I think I read here once (with a laugh) that someone cried when they left La Luna...I can now actually understand why.

The villas on La Luna are romantic, private, well-appointed, and comfortable. They are expertly maintained, clean, and bug free. The outdoor bathroom is odd. It may not work for some. It will attract some nightly bugs, but if you leave the light off it will be fine. There are lizards outside the villa will gobble up the mosquitos as night and are fun to watch. You should probably bring some bug spray. The nightly mosquitos were not too bad, but they were there. I hate mosquitos, but they weren't so bad that they impacted my visit at all. The views from the villas are fantastic. The deck on the front of the villa was lovely and practically our favorite place.

The restaurant is really good. The dining room is open air and right up against the beach.. Daniele, the chef, prepares some really good homemade pastas, seafood, pizzas and even the wonderful national dish - Oil Down, which is a lovely and hearty stew.

The day can easily be spent (as we did) on the nearly private beach on a lovely, picturesque cove at the foot of the property. Great lounge chairs (Lystra even delivered ice water with lime and ginger - fantastic!), umbrellas, the pool, the outdoor lounge and daybeds overlooking the sea...all give you lots of opportunities for privacy, comfort, romance and relaxation.

The bar will provide you with the necessary libations and refreshments...Fletcher and Urban make a rum punch that you'd sell your soul to the devil for. The Carib beer (brewed locally) is great. You'll not need to pay as you go, and you can settle up on departure. You won't have a heart attack from your bill - the prices are reasonable.

We had great massages in the spa - the spa is a beautiful building. You should visit it even if you don't get a massage (but really, get the massage!)

You can do yoga with Stephanie overlooking the water on a great outdoor yoga studio. It was lovely.

There are sea kayaks, sailboats and snorkeling gear available. We snorkeled but didn't sea anything spectacular. We only did it for a short time in the north side of the cove. I think we heard that the south portion of the cove had some better under water sights.

We looked at the web page and trip advisor to learn what we could of La Luna and took the plunge for our honeymoon. We wondered if it would live up to the (a) hype, (b) website and (c) our expectations...it exceeded all of them!

St. George's is a short (bumpy) cab ride away (15 minutes and USD $20). There are a couple of restaurants on the water and some nice architecture.

The rainforest is nearby and good for a hike to the Seven Sisters waterfalls. It is worth your time and effort, but be advised, the hike is not a walk on a gravel path...you'll need to do some navigating through the mud and the streams and river. But it is a great hike and worth it.

So in summary...get to La Luna before everyone else in the world does, because the way it is now is just perfect.

“A cliche of a tropical paradise - in the best possible way”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 November 2011

If a week spent in this almost stereotypical tropical paradise doesn't recharge your batteries, nothing will. It helped that the 'resort' - more a retreat, really - was less than half-full, but even with all 16 rooms occupied, I can't imagine that one would ever feel anything but tranquil here. Our deluxe cottage was very secluded, private and well appointed with a view from our verandah of the white sand beach, palms, beautifully maintained and lush garden and humming birds by day and of fireflies and the pageant of stars by night. The bed is among one of the best I've ever slept in; though, yes, take earplugs to avoid the Paul McCartney-esque Frog Chorus 18:00-03:00. We had loungers, beach and warm warm sea virtually to ourselves. In terms of atmosphere, understated luxury and peace, this place has it all. The road may be bumpy (but I have known much worse) and you should brave it to explore the island, but being inclined to stay here is no hardship.

The staff are very pleasant; generally much above the Caribbean-hotel average though some have more people-skills, genuine warmth and initiative than others. The front desk are most helpful with taxis, excursions and the small things of life that need fixing and Dexter in the bar is a 'card' serving excellent cocktails. The masseuses are skilled in their work and the spa extremely well-fitted and calming. I suspect they were hugely underoccupied - tip to the management; offer 30% off treatments at quiet times; we'd certainly have gone more if you had. Yoga was enjoyed by the yoga-enjoyer. The chef is a talent - food is noticeably better when he is present, regardless of how hands-on he may actually be. The Laluna papardelle is to die for and most desserts are good; also the fish dishes. Seafood pasta less so. If Italian food palls for a week, walk down the beach to the excellent seafood at the Beach House (don't miss the lobster); though the younger staff there could learnt from Laluna, and come down their 'fundament' a bit! The restaurant ran out of a few things; understandable to have gaps in the Italian specialities when they come monthly by container - less so to run out of basics such as raisin bran and - in Grenada of all places! - bananas. How possible?

Other non-Laluna tips; the Duty Free in the airport sells good branded gin at VERY cheap prices. Buy your nutmegs and products at the plant in Gouyave and your other products - jams, basic rum at ordinary supermarkets in St Georges. BBs in St Georges is good for some local eating. Avoid the identikit and hassly spice vendors in St George's marketplace. If you are travelling Club Class with BA make sure check-in give you vouchers for the airport bar (no lounge); they do not volunteer to do so.

Enjoy.

Room Tip: If you can afford the small extra the deluxe cottages are significantly more private. It's a LOT...

“Laluna Resort- great experience”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 21 November 2011

We stayed at Laluna last week, had bought a package on Luxurylink that was inclusive of meals, 2 massages, and a bottle of booze. Overall, we thought it was great and worth the money. It is right smack on a lovely, private beach, beautiful grounds, and the water is mostly calm. But, contrary to rumors, no snorkeling to be had behind the hotel- and so what! We had a car, drove to Flamingo Bay, about a half hour away, and had fabulous snorkeling there. The food was good, could be a more varied menu, but please God, the desserts were unbelievable. DO NOT skip the spiced creme brulee- you will regret it forever. Staff was lovely, freindly, generous and extremely accomodating. In fact, we were able to check in early (we arrived on the Delta flight that gets in at 6 am, and check out late, as the room was not needed, thereby giving us an extra day- which made us So Happy. The massages were super. It is low-key, private, and for bird-watchers out there, is home to several rare hummingbirds, which captivated my partner. The exercise room- not so much, but again, so what- went for a great run into what constitutes town every morning. The room was nice, not outstanding, but we did have a gorgeous view from the terrace, which we enjoyed very much. If you go, and are a light sleeper, bring ear plugs, as the frogs? tadpoles? can be a little too lively at night. We actually checked out another place we had considered, Maca Bana, and definitely preferred the beach by Laluna, much more private.

Room Tip: The rooms at the top tier have great views. Number 11 is the most private.

Dear Guest,
Thank you for taking the time to post a review. We are very happy when our guests leave with warm memories of Laluna. Yes, the tree frogs can sometimes be 'rambunctious' but it varies depending on the season. We hope to have to stay with us again in the future. Happy Holidays.

“Exclusive”

This is the only place to stay if you're looking for exclusive location with top notch, high quality service. At check in, we were greeted with a delicious rum punch with a sprinkle of fresh ground nutmeg. Yum! The Property is nestled between two cliffs so it really felt like we were on our own secluded island. The rooms were just as lovely as we expected, extremely spacious and rustic with a walk in closet. We were prepared for a rustic experience, so there was no surprise when we exited the room to a partially enclosed bathroom exposed to the elements. It was a little unnerving showering outside at night at first, but we got used to it. The mosquitoes were really bad; we lit a coil every night before shower time. Complimentary coils were provided.
The one restaurant on the property was absolutely wonderful. If you have no interest in leaving the resort during your stay, this restaurant serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. All of the meals were deliciously fresh and served with a warm smile. On our last night, we noticed the couple next to us dining on a signature island dish, the oil down. When I asked if I could order a sample, since it smelled absolutely scrumptious, I was gently told "no." The couple made a special request to the chef prior to dinner.
There were plenty of beach chairs and grass umbrellas. No need to rush down to claim a spot. The pool was right at the beach which offered a lovely view of the sunset.
We went to the spa 3 times during our holiday. Each treatment was fantastic. The balinese massage and head massage are a must; best scalp massage ever! Also, the honey ginger tea after each treatment was delightful.
All of the staff were eager to serve and super friendly. A minor disappointment was that it took 9 hours for them to trek into town to pick up mosquito repellant that I requested at 8 in the morning.
Lesson learned: Laluna will probably accommodate any request if you given 24 hour notice.
Would we return? In a heart beat! There is a special energy about the resort that I would love to experience again.

Room Tip: There is one cottage on the beach or request a room with view of the ocean.

Dear Guest, thank you for your review. We are so happy that you enjoyed your stay with us.
We are an Italian property, hence our Italian restaurant, but to show off our Grenadian cuisine, we have Thursday as Local night, unless guest specifically request for it on another night.
Sorry that you had to wait for the repellent, as we usually have stocks in our boutique for sale. The property is sprayed for mosquitos, to control the mosquito situation in the rainy season. We look forward to having you stay with us in the future.
