“Antiqua REX resortsare better”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

If you're reading this still deciding where to holiday (within the rex resorts group)
i'd give Grenada a miss.
I've stayed in both the Antiqua resorts and the are generally better - particularly Halceyon Cove - lovely beach - but both resorts are good

Pretty much anything i could say about this place is covered by other reviewers
+it's pretty run down, even dirry in some common areas
+the resort is very disjointed, it's a several minute walk from room to beach - another several to the restaurant etc / buildings all over the place - ...it's built on a hill so you are costantly up and down steps
+ the beach bar isn't on the beach, but up some steps to the pool area which is not a nice place - it's very run down. (and the barman is v unfriendly)
+ the breakfast restaurant has no view of the sea at all - it's indoor - why have a resort restaurant with no sea view? (Antiqua Rex restaurants are much nicer)
+ the food is not good at all , cold buffets......

Antugua has better beaches - the beach here is narrow and steep - so harder to have a nice walk on.

But if you are coming here anyway.....it's not a disaster - it's still a beautiful place, but they could make it so much better.

“Magical Place, beautiful and relaxing.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

We spent a wonderful week in Grenadian by Rex in January.
Grenada provided the wonderful weather and climate and Grenadian made our stay with an excellent location.

- Location

The piece of Grenada that the resort is based on is a magical. Beautiful, green with interesting wildlife, especially the birds, nice lakes, magical coastline.

- Beaches

There are two beaches that are separated by the building that has the swimming pool, the bar, etc.
1. The long and nice beach towards the left is the Magazin beach that is beautiful, however the access to the sea is rocky, reef-like, that, however makes it an interesting place to snorkel and see a variety of beautiful fish.
2. The second, smaller beach is on the right side of the pool/bar. It has a smooth, sand access to the sea. It is also the place where the Water sports spot is based.

- Rooms

Rooms are OK, they are not Excellent, but are OK for a resort. The beach-front rooms are excellent with direct access to the beach and fantastic views. The resort is huge and occupies quite a large bit of land so sometimes you may need to walk for 5-8 mins to get to your room, but it's worth it, and it's particularly good to have the rooms away from the entertainment area for people who prefer it to be less noisy.

A little brush up of the rooms and this can be a 5 star hotel.

- Food

The AI option is well worth it. Includes breakfast, lunch, afternoon tea, dinner and AI drinks from 8am to midnight.
We found the variety of the food very good and also the taste. The fruits were delicious.
The lunch is usually served by the sea, near the pool. It's high up, so you have fantastic views of both beaches and the beautiful Caribbean sea.
The drinks are mostly local, however for things not produced locally the international options are included in AI.

- Entertainment

Although there were a couple of days when we liked the entertainment in particular, this is I think the place when Grenadian needs to step-up a bit. The entertainment is a bit laid-back and doesn't really attract young people staying at the resort.

-Water-sport
On the smaller beach there is a water sport centre. For AI guests the rental of kayaks, snorkelling equipment, etc is free. A wide range of diving and snorkelling trips are organized (for an additional fee). The staff are friendly and help you decide on your experience.
A trip to the underwater sculpture park is recommended!

--Overall Experience--

It was a great stay. Would go back there again. The fact that we met people who've been there more than 15 times tells that the resort is worth visiting. If Rex Resort renovate the rooms, make it a standard higher and also brush up the Entertainment it can be a 5 star resort without a doubt!

Room Tip: go for Beach-front Rooms: direct access to the beach and beautiful views.

“Great holiday”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

This hotel is an excellent 3*. As said before a little tired in places but please don't spend too much money on it or make it a five * we will never be able to afford to come.
The rooms are spacious with plenty of storage. Air con a little noisy. Good shower. Room was kept spotless and clean towels every day.
we enjoyed the food. Breakfast much the same everyday choices of freshly cooked eggs, bacon, beans tomatoes , bread/croissants and fruit, some days we even had passion fruit and star fruit.
Lunch, Chicken or fish, burgers, hotdogs, fries, sandwiches, pasta, salad or veg. A couple of desserts. If you want ice cream you need to ask for it when they clear your dinner plate. some lovely flavours.
Dinner, Fish, meat dishes, chicken, salad, veg and potatoes done various ways.
some lovely desserts . We never went hungry and also the soups were very good.

Rum punches and cocktails were good. didn't try the oriental restaurant on site , but heard it was good.

If your A.I. do try to eat out a couple of times. The Aquarium is about 6min walk along the beach. You can go up have a look at the menu and book a table. live music on Friday's eves. and bbq and live band on Sunday lunch times.
Also heard the beach hut restaurant is good. Book through hotel and they will send a courtesy car. its about 4 mins away in a car

Evening entertainment was ok, steel bands and singers. If you want to party this is not the place for you.
Different activities going on in the day, if you want to join in.

The grounds of this hotel are lovely and attract lots of birds and wildlife.

Both the beaches are lovely. While we were there the sea was a little choppy. You could get in and out without being knocked over ( choose the right time, lol.) and bob about, but it was quite hard to swim. We were told its not always like this.
We went to the B.B.C. beach ( morne Rouge) Which was lovely and calm. It cost about £20.00 return. Also we found the Gran Anse to be a bit calmer. We went by taxi and got the bus back, that was an experience and we even had a little tour.lol. Great fun.
The smaller beach at the Rex has a dive school. My Husband went out for a dive with them and said it was excellent. The best £100.00 he had ever spent. He had a short lesson in the pool the day before then went on two 45min dives.
The only little moan i have is on our first week there didn't seem to be enough sun loungers on the beach and people get up early to put their towels down, this is the first time we have experienced this in the Caribbean. Then you find you have to do same if you want a lounger.
The 2nd week there were more loungers available but still everyone puts their towels down.

This hotel is a very friendly and happy place. As someone said earlier the staff are so friendly that it rubs off on the guests. You cant go far without saying hello to someone.
The beach vendor's were also a friendly bunch, our favorite was Marlon.
We found the waitresses/ waiters to be really friendly, even though they were busy most had time to have a little chat with you. A big thank you to all the staff.

Also we found the Grenadian people to be very friendly and helpful and felt very safe.

There are some great trips to do. We enjoyed the tour of the island with Chris's Tours and Taxi's, you can book him online before you go and sort out what you want to see and do.. Lovely man, and very knowledgeable about his island.
The catamaran trip was fun, also the food was great.

We wanted to go to Carriacou by plane but kept putting it off as the weather was a little changeable at the beginning of the holiday then we ran out of time. So we will definitely try to return again. A wonderful holiday.

“Fantastic value for the money”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 February 2012

Having stayed in many of the Rex Resorts around the Caribbean, I can honestly say that this is the best.
Like most of the Rex properties the buildings are a little bit tired. Food is good and very tasty if a little repetitious. On Sunday's you get roast beef and Yorkshire pudding.
The staff are the most friendly I have come across, apart from reception, who need more training.

Would I go back, Yes most definitely

Room Tip: Choose a Beach Front room, the supplement is small, but the location is great.
