“OUR 4TH VISIT”

Another visit to The Calabash, this time my wife and I and a friend rented The Pool House, so we were able to look after ourselves, denying ourselves the cooked breakfast on our balcony, trying to limit our intake of food and alcohol, visiting the Rhodes Restaurant not every night, in an attempt to keep our figures. Almost total failure! Our bedrooms and bathrooms were simple and stylish, the view and Pool delightful. But perhaps the owners of the villa(not The Calabash) should consider renewing the kitchen equipment, installing some fans in the sitting areas and installing some comfortable chairs. I imagine when the owners are in residence the Pool House is a "party house" to their main villa. Everything that could be done for us by the Staff of the hotel, who clean the villa, maintain the Pool, were as good as though we had stayed in the hotel. Gary Rhodes was visiting during our 3 weeks and we look forward to enjoying his new menu next year.

Room Tip: My ratings refer to The Pool House not the Hotel, however we have stayed on the West side of the hot...

We have just returned from a 2 week holiday in the Caribbean, the first week was at the Calabash. This is a really wonderful hotel and we had a fantastic week there. We had stayed in this hotel 14 years ago and had forgotten just how special it is.

The staff are friendly, the rooms spacious and the gardens and beach just beautiful. We do not hesitate to recommend this hotel. We are well travelled and very choosey as to where we stay, and this comes out really well

Room Tip: The whirlsuite rooms are excellent...there is no need to upgrade on these

“Very comfortable resort”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 December 2011

My wife and I stayed at the Hotel Calabash over Thanksgiving and were quite pleased. The Calabash is not a super-luxury resort, but it is very comfortable and is notable for having what is likely to be the best restaurant on Grenada, Rhodes Restaurant. Gary Rhodes is a London-based Michelin-starred chef. While Rhodes at the Calabash doesn't quite reach that level, it is high-style resort cuisine (make sure that you ask for fish and meat rare if that is important to you) with some distinguished dishes (Shrimp with Callaloo, Beet Root Tart, Lamb with Aubergines) (The restaurant is not inexpensive, however). The staff is generally excellent, and the complimentary breakfast on the veranda is delightful (the nutmeg pancakes with nutmeg syrup are delicious). The Calabash is a small resort with only about 30 rooms, and they do not accept guests under 12 years old. The resort is somewhat isolated on the island, on the south side of the island. One needs a car or taxi to get anywhere.

It would not be accurate to describe the Calabash as one of the most luxurious resorts in the Caribbean, but our vacation was filled with pleasures and comforts. The resort is British-owned and most of the guests are from Great Britain. The resort is also known for their Scuba program.

We have just stayed at the Calabash for a week. We chose full board which we would not normally select but when we saw that it was a Gary Rhodes restaurant that sealed the deal. The five pounds that I have gained can tell you how good the food was, excellent.
The hotel is welcoming and relaxing. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay.

Room Tip: We had a whirlpool room but would have a pool room next time.

“perfect”

Just back from nine day stay and everything was perfect. Food, room, service, ambience, everything. The one thing I would single out was the staff. Not just excellent service but their attitiude and demeanour was delightful. Every member of staff we had contact with from reception to room maids, bar and restaurant staff, even the gardiners were all polite, friendly, smiling and seemed genuinely to want to make our stay as good as it could be. We were delighted and will definitely be back.
