This was a wonderful, relaxing, private resort. It is very small, so sometimes, you feel like you have the place to yourself. There is a really nice, private beach on the property that was perfect for a lazy day lounging around the property.
The bungalows are in the jungle, so you may find a bug, but that's part of nature. The rooms are very comfortable and spacious in a relaxing setting. I think the negative reviewers were expecting an all-inclusive like you would find in Punta Cana. This hotel is so much better. I would much rather be isolated in nature with a private beach than in a loud, crowded, expensive hotel.
The owners are very accommodating. Marie scheduled excursions for us, like whale watching and a trip to the national park. One thing that is important to know is that the owners only speak Spanish and French, and the guided tours were from locals in Spanish. Everyone is very patient, though.
This location is the perfect jumping off point for beautiful beaches in the area. We rented a car in Santo Domingo and had a relatively easy drive up to the peninsula. Once at the hotel, you are within an hour of many picturesque, deserted beaches and laid-back beach towns. You are also a very short boat ride to Cayo Leventado, a island with a very pretty beach. You can go there after the boat excursions you take. We went to a different beach nearly every day for 7 days. There is good food at the hotel restaurant, and you are less than 30 minutes to two towns with a selection of restaurants.
I would definitely stay here again and would recommend it to anyone looking for an isolated getaway. I thank the owners for making our stay in the Dominican Republic one of the most relaxing, secluded, and unique vacations we have had.
