“Overall nice place”

We stayed at Majestic Colonial from Feb 1st to Feb 9th 2012, we had a great time and really enjoyed the animation team they made it slot of fun for us and they have a wonderful waiter on the beach named Danny who is amazing. The resort itself is nice, the beach is a little rough you can't go out too far but it is beautiful....... The food is a little hard to take even when you have the omelets and pasta the cook in front of you it still gives you the runs I think because of the cheap oil they use. The booze is very cheap too we met a lot of people who kept trying different drinks because they taste so different, we just stuck with the one type of beer they had Presidente. Make sure you get chairs early in the morning we seen a couple fights over them even a physical fight... It didn't seem like they had much security. Overall we haddock a great time and the resort is beautiful.

“Beautiful Beach”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

We stayed at the Majestic Colonial from Feb 1- Feb 8 2012. The resort is very nice and the beach is the most beautiful beach we have ever seen. The pool is very nice although we spent most of our time on the beach. Housekeeping was not so good, we had the same drinking cups and coffee cups the whole week, maid just rinsed them out and put them back out for us to reuse, had coffee still in them! We ended up getting plastic cups and paper coffee cups to bring back to our room from buffett area to use for the time we were there. Some days we had no towels and others only 1, I asked for towels one day and a maid yelled at me to go to my room! We only had 2 small bars of soap for the week so I would recommed bringing one from home as they do not replace them.
Fridge was always restocked with water and soda and beer each day.
This was a very noisy resort with people arriving with luggage on ceremic floors in the hall way and lots of loud people returning to thier rooms at all hours.
Food was good, would recommend the Japaneese restaurant.
Service was very good and staff were very friendly,, The friendliest person we met has to be Maria Alcantara, the waitress on the beach!!!! She always has a smile and was so nice to everyone on the beach, she would bring my husband his 2 beers at a time without him even asking her, we have never had that kind of service on the beach before at any resort we have stayed at!

Room Tip: I would recommend the top floor if possible,,alot quieter as you wont hear everything going on above...

“Excellent for Punta Cana”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

Compared to Riviera Maya or Jamaica, this all inclusive does not compare in terms of food quality and variety. Resort amenities are almost comparable. The differences are reflected in the lower price points in Dominican Republic, compared to Mexico, or Jamaica.
Rooms are very spacious, while the resort is not overly large. Punta Cana's beach is absolutely spectacular! Long, wide, scenic beach makes for great strolls beside the turquoise ocean waters. 'a la carte' restaurants were not special and thus, options were limited. Entertainment venue was good, but not memorable. If you can afford Mexico, or Jamaica, they are better choices, but if cost is a concern, Majestic is a great choice.

“What a Holiday - Magnificent”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

My wife and I just returned from the best vacation we've ever had. I am 58 years old and have visited many holiday locations in the Caribbean. We were worried about all the reported "tummy troubles", but in 2 weeks we experienced no problems whatsoever. Anybody who complains about the food here must be eating out with Donald Trump every night - i.e. the culinary selection is fantastic. For Barb and I the Japanese was the best, but we also enjoyed the Gourmet and the Dominican/Mexican. The lobster at the Surf and Turf Shack was great too - no need to dress and very informal. If by chance you're not happy with your meal just get up and visit the buffet - it's amazing.

I'm not going to dwell on the negative reviews, but like many, I booked this vacation months ago and followed Trip Advisor every few days. I'd like to refer to Taylor 10782's January 20th critique where she rated this resort as 1 out of 5 Stars. Yes, we're all entitled to our opinions, but I say insane - this place is magnificent.

I believe the beach at the Colonial is the best in Punta Cana due to the wide bend and long stretch. We never had any trouble finding lounge chairs and unlike the GBP Amber we visited last March there was plenty of room. No sardine can situation.

If you can swing it, upgrade past the base room and you can enjoy room service and a few bottles of complimentary hootch. The room service food was the best we've experienced in the D.R. Believe it or not they offer sushi plates, consume soup and even chicken wings. Even the burgers taste like back home in Toronto.

During our 2 weeks in the PC we meet a number of staff. I'd like to thank a very classy guy - the G.M. Mr. Angel Holgado and his manager a lovely young lady Wardes Garcia. We had a few concerns and they addressed everything promptly. The Colonial has a 24 hour burger/beer and rum spot near the casinos. I'd like to thank the chef, Stanley and his waiter Obulio, as well the night manager Carlos Watkins who provided a laugh and some insightful information about the resort and the area. Truthfully there are too many names to mention. This resort is geared for service. Late one evening my wife and I couldn't sleep. It was around 4:00 am so we decided to take a walk on the beach. We thought we were alone, but were soon met by Security who established the fact that we were guests and then directed us to the best location to see the sunrise - nice touch.

Barb and I visited this resort in 2006 and it has only improved. Each to his own. We walked around the Elegance, but for us it was a little too posh and not as wide open as the Colonial. I guess their names say it all. One is in the Colonial style and the other is more Elegant. On vacation we prefer to be a little more laid back. But, believe me you're not roughing it at the Colonial.

I'm trying to keep this short - hahahaha, but we loved this holiday and have few complaints. Yes, the bathroom in the room set up is unusual. We just ran a tap while the other did their business and the balcony set up would benefit if there was a screen on the sliding door. I read some felt the beds were too hard. For us this wasn't a problem at all. You're on vacation and no place will compare to your home.

On a personal note, and I hope she reads this. We lost our air mattress through carelessness in the pool. A lovely lady from Wisconsin U.S. came to the rescue and offered us hers on the day she left - Gracias. Anyway I am sure I've missed a whole lot of stuff, but if anyone complains about this resort they are either very tried or unhappy with life. You know the type - the GRASS IS TOO GREEN and THE SUN IS TOO HOT.

If we can swing it, we'll be back to this resort soon. Please feel free to contact me if you have any questions. J.W.

Room Tip: ocean front - what a view

“Majestic Colonial "Wedding Planner Disappointment "”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012
6
people found this review helpful

(Read this before you pay for a wedding here)

We had our Daughters Wedding at the Majestic Colonial and brought 40 people to the hotel from Canada and spent over $50,000.00 at this Hotel and all in all it was pretty good but far from great. This mainly was a result of a not so pleasant Wedding planner named "Stephanie" who made things end on a very sour note due in large to a number of problematic issues with Billing which resulted in a huge disappointment resulting from a terrible and nasty attitude that was presented and conveyed toward us from this wedding planner "Stephanie" and inevitabley her manager Sandra (BEWARE these 2 individuals as they are not professionals in there demeaner if a problem should arrise or if you question anything after they have your money). One main issue we had was the fact you have to pay for the wedding package before hand and once you pay, your done , because they got you where they want you and if they don't deliver then forget about it or any adjustments to your invoice that you may feel you are or should be entitled to because they will cheat you and they will argue and argue with you unreasonably and not even let you talk when you are trying to convey and communicate. They are unreasonable to the point where especially if your a polite person you will just end up just walking away disgusted as this is what happened to us as we found them to be not so nice once they have the money. They are never wrong and not even reasonable as in our case what we paid for was not what we got. I say this due to the fact that what we had planned and paid for was to have the wedding reception on the beach but the wedding planner "Stephanie" advised us due to possible rain they would change the venue to the pool side cabana area to which we agreed and this is where the problem begins. We had pre-paid $500 extra for a dance floor to be located at the beach as they offerred this as an option originally but since the venue had been moved to pool side a portable dance floor would no longer be required and this optional beach dance floor that they would typically place on top of the sand was no longer be required because we where now on the tiled pool side location which did not require a portable dance floor as did the beach due to the sand. Well, never the less 'Stephanie" said to the Bride just at the end of the ceremony during picture taking and all the excitement that was in place at that moment just following the ceremony that they would exchange the not needed $500 dance floor option for an open bar to start 1 hour earlier than originaly planed (which was fine) but none of the guests where made aware of this by any of the bar staff located at the bar when they arrived at the pool reception area while the bride and groom where all having pictures taken so it ended up that nobody even used this $500.00 Open Bar exchange that once again was never conveyed to any of the guests and they where only served beer and wine nor was the open bar service even apparent as no bottles where even present and further more we had arranged with the hotel originally that we would be bringing our own liquor at a corkage fee of $10 per bottle ($60 in our case total) as the wine and beer was included anyways.
"Stephanie says it was the Brides responsibility to tell everyone and not hers (which was part of my argument) or not the waiters and I said "How could the Bride tell anyone when she was at the beach having pictures taken by the photographer" and why did "Stephanie " not advise the whole group rather to ensure everyone was aware.
So... long story short the next day we tried to meet with "Stephanie" to go through the confusion surrounding the situatuation because we wanted a credit for the $500 that she said "no" to in passing us in the main lobby that evening and she would not even give us the time of day for a meeting until 11:00 the next day even after we told her that we where leaving the next day at 10:45 and could she make it earlier to which she replied again "firm "No" and then I was forced to go to her manager who also was very ignorant and nasty toward us so we just gave up on them but will never return for this "Bait and Switch" tactic that they did and inevitably ripped us off for $500.00 even after we generously tipped all wait staff that evening . We would have been happy to split the difference but to have to pay $500 for an open bar for 1 hour and have no one even order one single drink from the supposed open bar that no one ever where informed of because no one was informed by Stephanie or the wait staff or bar manager and this in my opinion is wrong and they should have never done this flip flop with the bride in the middle of her after ceremony pictures and then expected her to also inform the whole group who where spread about the resort at that point in time. We felt at least they (bar staff, waiters, bar manager) should have upon everyones arrival to the reception bar area let the guesta know what was available for drinks and not just go around asking who would like a glass of wine or beer like they did. They insist the bride should have told everyone this meanwhile she was at the beach having pictures taken with her groom while all this was going on and al the gueasts where arriving at the beach bar location. (For God Sakes we where supposedly at an al inclusive and we all paid for that and anyone of us could have walked to the bar around the corner and ordered whatever drink we wanted and not have been restricted to Beer and Wine only. They did not even have the liquor bottles out from the closed cupboards for the people to see what was supposedly available for this 1 hour at $500 of supposed open bar. Tottally a bait ans switch by a pro whio has obviously done this many a time. " Beware as you may also get ripped off" and dont let them swap one thing for another as they did here then pull the rug from under you and then not even have the decency to have a meeting with you knowing that you are leaving and only giving you a meeting time later than your departure time?
I would definately look at a better facility with more professional trusting Wedding Planner and Manager to deal with who wont money grab you and then just walk away. Not once did we get load ,voicetress or anything but be polite and we got ripped off and it did nt bother then in the least.
"Stephanie" not once even asked how thiong where overall ....go figure and trust ne go elsewhere you will be glad you did overall and not just for this . The whole Musical rooms issue was another as about 60% of our group also had to change rooms 2 days into the one week stay as a result of numerous issues from Sewer like smells to double bedds instead of kings etc...the list goes on.
Stay elsewhere and get your money's worth not ripped off and inconvenienced .

Room Tip: DOnt accept a room tp close to the Auditorium as the noise in the evening is load till the wee hours...
