“6 Apple Rating needs to be re-evaluated...”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 February 2012

My wife and I were placed at this resort via the Apple Vacations - 6 Apple Square Deal for our Honeymoon from 2/2/12 - 2/9/12. It's important to note that the other potential hotels listed on our itinerary were that of; Dreams Palm Beach, Iberostar Grand Hotel Bavaro, NOW Larimar, Paradisus Palma Real, Hard Rock Punta Cana & Riu Palace Bavaro. We've since been informed that Apple Vacations owns a stake in the Dreams properties located in Punta Cana, DR of which we were not made aware of prior to our trip. With that said, let's get to the review...

Service: B - We arrived at the hotel at around 3:30pm only to be told our room was not ready. Keep in mind, that the posted hotel check-in time is 3:00pm. My wife and I decided to grab a late lunch in the meantime. After lunch, approximately 4:15pm, we informed that our room was STILL not ready. We decided to walk the property to become better situated with our surroundings while we waited for our room. We did not get into our room until 5:30pm and it was a complete joke. Please refer to the section titled "Rooms" further down in the review. With the exception of the check-in fiasco, the hotel staff members were very friendly and courteous.

Value: B - If you are budget-conscious and looking for a mediocre resort that is family friendly, secluded, and ridiculously outdated, then this resort is for you.

Sleep Quality: F - Our room contained mold and mildew (Room 9117) and smelled like an old musty basement. My wife has severe allergies to mold and mildew and had to take plenty of Zyrtec and Benadryll to be able to sleep comfortably. The beds were ok but the mold/mildew problem overshadowed anything remotely positive. Also, the A/C was about as efficient as a small window unit trying to cool down a 5000 sq ft. mansion.

Cleanliness: C - The hotel lobby is kept very clean but outside of that, they could use a lot of bleach to counteract the mold/mildew issue prevalent in our guestroom and throughout the facility.

Location: C - If you're looking to be close to shopping and local culture, this resort is not for you. It is secluded, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, but something to be cognizant of if you're looking to experience the local shops, people, and culture. Don't be afraid to leave the resort and mingle with the locals as they are wonderful. With that said, be prepared to bring extra cash for the taxis into town as the shopping inside the resort is less than desirable.

Rooms: F - Severe mold and mildew issue in our room (Room 9117). The room decor is very dated. The couch, curtains and comforter were stained. The small desk in the room had broken drawers. The bathroom had visible mold in and around the shower. We even noticed mold on the wall beneath the smoke detector. Again, the room had a musty smell that is on par with an old wet basement. A little bleach would do this place some good.

Beverage Selection: B - The beverage selection was decent. Keep in mind, that if you do not specify a better brand than the Dominican equivalent, you will not get it. With that said, the bartenders are extremely friendly and quick to make the drinks.

Overall: C - This hotel is NOT worthy of a 6 Apple rating as the facility is very dated and in need of some new paint and a good ol' bleach scrub to combat the mold/mildew issue. I will say that despite this negative review, the hotel staff were wonderful and always had a smile on their faces. However, I cannot comprehend how this resort is rated as a 6 Apple as the other hotels I mentioned at the beginning of this review are far superior. If Apple Vacations and the Dreams properties have some sort of alliance/ownership stake, they need to inform their customers ahead of time. Vacationers BEWARE.

Room Tip: Rooms are mediocre at best. Here's a great tip: Do not set your expectations higher than a Hol...

Dear Sir or Madam,

We appreciate the time you have taken to post your comments regarding your stay at our resort, and sincerely regret that you had a disappointing experience. We host many guests that return year after year to enjoy our wonderful customer service and beautiful facilities, and it greatly concerns us when we view comments like yours. Our main concern is for all of our guests to have an excellent experience while visiting and that they too become return guests.

Our property’s remote location nestled within the lush vegetation of our beautifully landscaped tropical environment is one of the many reasons our guests choose our resort to experience nature amongst our lovely flora and fauna.

We acknowledge that we do at times experience situations caused by extra humidity in the guest rooms brought upon by the combination of our tropical weather and the lush vegetation that surrounds our property. We truly appreciate your observation in this respect and we will communicate your comments to the corresponding departments.

We’re sorry that we did not meet your expectations on this visit and hope to someday have the opportunity to host your stay again.

Sincerely,
Nancy De Lara

Us and 14 friends and family went to Dreams Punta Cana Resort and Spa and had such a great time. The service was amazing and the staff were very friendly and we enjoyed their company. They had great entertainment and lots of activities to do for both adults and kids. We highly reccommend this resort.

Room Tip: Building number 5 is the furthest from the beach and pool but also the quietest. There is a huge po...

“Wedding and Family Vacation!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

I vacationed here from Jan 31st-Feb 7th 2012 for my brother's wedding as well as a family vacation. We had a group of 17 people which made it really fun. The only other all inclusive resort we have traveled to was the Iberostar Del Mar in the Rivera Maya, Mexico, so we had something to compare it to. The beach at Dreams was much more spacious and spread out than the one in Mexico which we liked allot. The pool was also better, but be sure to wake up around 6:00am to save pool chairs if you want a spot by the swim up bar and pool entertainment!
Also, the food at Dreams was MUCH better. We ate at the World Cafe (buffet style) many times for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. There's so much to choose from that everyone found something they liked. The custom omelet station in the mornings was my absolute favorite! (Seaside Grill is also good for breakfast... less crowded than the buffet). Room service food was quick and very good, especially for a late night snack since it's available 24 hours. My brother and his wife had their wedding reception at the Seaside Grill, which was probably my favorite specialty restaurant besides the Japanese steak house.
The best part of the trip was probably the service. Every night, our whole group hung out at the hotel lobby bar where we watched the shows and danced while a live band played. We got to know the bartenders there... Alexander, Carlos, and Juan Luis were the BEST bartenders in the whole place! They made our trip so much fun! If you stay here, make sure you get to know these guys. We would sit and chat with them whenever we could and we got to become friends over the week. Alexander (my favorite!) actually went and got me a special bottle of champagne during the Super Bowl party on the beach because they weren't serving it there. How nice! Also, Jensy (at the pool bar), Juan (Show Time bar), and Maritza (beach waitress) were some of our favorites as well. The service at this place is the best!
All in all, this place is great and I can't see why anyone would leave a negative review. My ONLY complaint is that the room we stayed in could have used a bit of upgrading, but it didn't affect my trip at all because we were hardly in our rooms! Also, the vendors were a bit annoying but just say "no thanks" and keep walking and they will leave you alone. Bring lots of singles for tips (the ATM was broken when I was there) . I recommend this place to anyone looking to go to Punta Cana and I will definitely be back!

We appreciate the time you have taken to post your lovely comments regarding your visit to our resort and we are happy to know that we met your expectations. It pleases us that you enjoyed all of our facilities and services, and that Alexander, Carlos, Juan Luis, Jensy, Juan, and Maritza participated in making your stay even more pleasant. Our staff works hard to provide excellent service and it inspires them when they are acknowledged by our guests.

Thank you and we look forward to hosting your stay again in the future.

“Never even made it to resort!!!!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

I am an event coordinator and my clients wanted to have their wedding at Dreams Punta Cana. I had only planned events in the US up to this point and I guess I expected the same level of communication, detail and appreciation of the urgency of planning schedule.

The communication between myself and the resort's coordinator began approximately 7 months before the wedding date. The process of getting information regarding available dates proved to be difficult from the beginning. I would inquire about a date and the resort wedding coordinator would simple answer no. She would not offer alternative dates. This went on for about 10 days. Finally we agreed upon a date. We submitted the paperwork with the time request. A few days later we received confirmation (after having to email her and ask for it) but we were not given the desired time. My clients wanted 7pm and were assigned 4pm. I inquired about the time and she simply said 7 pm was not available. A sunset was very important to the clients so I emailed the coordinator to ask if there was anything that could be done to accommodate their request (change date or ceremony type). She said no. Days later she emailed saying that 6 was available. If she stated that earlier it would have saved us time and frustration. Finally, after over a month of correspondence, it was time to put down a deposit. She asked for the deposit with the credit card authorization which she said was sent in an email as an attachment. I never received the attachment an dasked her to resend. This is when all communication on her part stopped. I sent 2 additional emails. I never heard from her again.

I sent a letter to the resort General Manager. Based on her response, she did not seem to care that her resort lost a revenue from the wedding as well as 20 guest rooms.

I guess, all in all, it was better to find out that their customer service needs improvement now, rather than having disappointed clients.

We booked at another resort in Punta Cana and the service is AMAZING!

Dear sir or madam,

Thank you for taking the time to post your review and making us aware of your experience with our weddings department. It is disconcerting for us to learn of this incident as this behavior is not typical of any of our departments. Our hotel prides itself on its customer service and you can rest assured that we will investigate the matter further to take the necessary measures to prevent this from occurring again.

Please accept our most sincere apologies and we hope to have the opportunity of working with you in the future.
