“The Good, The Bad, The Ugly”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

Just returned from a 6 night stay at this property. It was our third trip to Punta Cana and we have traveled to all inclusives in Jamaica and Mexico. We love the flexibility of all inclusive resorts and know you sometimes give up perks when going to such a resort. I will have to say the reviews I read about this place are all "spot on". The negatives are definitely present, it isn't just an angry traveler letting off steam. And, the positives are present too. When going to this place you must have the mindset that it IS NOT a 5 star resort and the employees are not driven to serve their customers. If you can accept that, you will enjoy the beach and sun and have a good time.
The GOOD- the beach was awesome~ you could walk an hour in either direction from this resort. The shoreline was not rocky and you didn't encounter problems when in the water either. They raked the seaweed off the beach daily. Never had to worry about a chair. Yes, people saved chairs but there were enough to go around. And, the resort was at full capacity. We also enjoyed the Brazilian restaurant. It had the best food, by far. Once you attempted to get to know an employee and ask them about their family and where they were from - they were really friendly! We met bartenders, waiters, and waitresses that all greeted us with smiles on a daily basis. But, it took us initiating a friendlier relationship with them.

THE BAD- the front desk staff needs to work on their customer service skills. As people have pointed out, they are not completely honest. They say whatever they think you want to hear to get rid of you. Do not fall for the "come back at a different time". They are just hoping you don't want to deal with it after awhile. Unforturnately, they are your first impression. And, our trip didn't start off that great due to a dishonest front staff person. But, the week got better as we got settled into an acceptable room with everything working and we didn't have to deal with them again. This resort is huge - too big for our liking. Sometimes it took 20 minutes to get back to your room sometimes longer as we easily got lost.

THE UGLY- After traveling to the Caribbean annually for over 10 years, I have never had to deal with a room that isn't fit to sleep in. Our first room could have been called "the roach motel". We had critters the first night and didn't sleep much as we stayed awake to keep the insects away. The next morning, we requested a room change. Instead of them apologizing for the inconvenience, the "wonderful" front desk staff was more than annoyed with our request. They had to go out of their way to get us a new room. Not the customer service one expects when staying at a resort. This place needs to send its employees to customer service training!! Later in the week, we were in one of the hotel gift shops and on the shelves they sold "roach spray". Obviously, roach sightings are not uncommon if they are selling spray to their guests. Maybe, they should invest in spraying the property on their own instead of their guests having to kill them on their own. I believe you have a lesser chance of seeing these critters if your room isn't on the main floor. Good luck in getting a more desirable room!!

But, roaches, crabby front desk staff and average food aside - we were there for the warm weather and the beach and we thoroughly enjoyed that aspect. Would I go back - no.

Room Tip: Do not stay in a ground level room.

“So So”

Went to the Palladium back in July with a group of friends and had a sub par vacation. The grounds were beautiful as well as the rooms and buildings. The beach was great and the water was crystal clear, but other then that we thought the hotel was lacking. It was very boring during the day and at night compared to other hotels we stayed at. The food was terrible; as the only edible food came from the sports bar. The property the " palladium hotel's" sit on is gigantic, and it is very hard to walk from one side to the other without breaking out in a intense sweat, right before dinner when you are all dressed up. If you can deal with the food and are looking for a nice relaxing vacation go here. If you are young looking for some night life, and people your age, i would advise you to look elsewhere.

Room Tip: Get upgraded to the Royal Suites, it is well worth it, especially gaining access to the golf carts t...

I am planning on returing to the Grand Palladium this year and I can not wait! Me and my Husband went for 2 weeks in March 2011 with 30 of our family and friends. We got married there on our 2nd week. The wedding was faultless the staff were amazing and made our day os so special! I Fellt the need to write a review due to been so surprised by the negative reviews!! I truley do not understand how anyone can fault the truley breath taking resort at all! We stayed in the Palace section and had family and friends stay in the punta cana and bavaro. I can honestly say every single person who travelled with us expressed that they had the best holiday/experience of their lives and would definelty return! From the moment we arrived we felt so looked after and absolutely EVERYTHING was all inclusive! We had no worries or stress and all loved our whole holiday. I would definelty recommend anyone who are in doubt to forget the negative comments because seriously ALL our experiece was possitive! Hope this review helps people make up their minds! A truley amazing hotel, resort and a must see. The staff are so kind and work so hard to take care of you through out your stay. We can not wait to come back!!! Truely brilliant!

“what front desk???”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

I was at this resort at the Bavaro January 14-21, 2012 and had a nice experience, EXCEPT with the front desk people. The room when we walked in smelt like an ashtray. We told the bellhop right away we are not staying in this room, he called the front desk and told them, then handed the phone to us, the front desk said all the rooms are smoking rooms, he would send somone to spray, they did and still it was unbearable. We came with another couple who had a non-smoking room (lie #1). Day 2 we went to the front desk, guy said they are full cant move us, but they will change the linen, which did finally help the smoke smell. The combination of the smell and the room being rundown, showerhead broken and would only adjust to stay at 4 feet high, (I am 6" 2') , the room was "tired" lets just put it that way. It was suggested to see The concierge Richard. Richard said he will "go to battle" for us and send us a letter of his results (lie #2). I am very easy to please and dont complain but the 3rd and final time I went to the desk, this time for a pen. The guy said you didnt get 1 in your room, I said no,he took my room # and said "we will send 1 to you", (lie#3) we couldnt get a pen....Every other aspect of my stay was a great experience. The room i learned to live with, the a la carte restaurants were "awesome". Mexican was my favorite, Spanish was excellent (went twice) and Italian was perfect. If you have no issues and dont have to deal with the front desk you will be happier for it, cause they lie right to your face. The other couple we were with were upgraded (without asking) at check-in,to the junior suites and they were very satisfied.

“Just got back; first time to Punta Cana”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2012

I would like to start off by saying: This is our group's view of PC and The Grand Palladium Palace only.

We chose Punta Cana and this resort because after 20+ years to Cancun, RM, and Playa we wanted to see and experience something different.

Entering the resort, we found it to be a little run down and the buildings definitely in need of some work. The front desk staff were ok, not as excited or warm to see us as we have experienced in MX. We did however, get a great building for our 4 rooms and group of 8.

Our building and rooms were adequate. Nothing special, and again really need to be updated. Towels in the rooms are scarce, even when calling to the front desk several times. We finally gave up after our third day. Our mini fridge never worked the entire stay after several requests to have someone look at it. Not that big of a deal, just an observation.

The grounds were very nice. Tons of palms everywhere. The pool area was ample, active etc. This area also needs some work as there are missing tiles on the walkway areas and inside the pool. The bar staff at the pool were definitely the most friendly of all staff members at the resort.

Restaurants: This was the biggest disappointment to our group. While there are 14 places to eat as far as they say (we never found all of them) the buffets were amongst the worst we have ever eaten. We are not picky eaters at all. We know AI resorts...and have stayed at dozens of them. While there is a variety to select, the quality was so poor it was difficult to find something edible. The times the buffets open and close could vary.
The ala carte's while they claim you do not need reservations is very misleading. We tried for 3 days before we could actually eat at an ala carte. We got into the Habacchi grill and it was the best food of our stay. One side note; for some reason, the staff at any place we ate seemed to not really like their jobs. Never a smile, even though we tipped nicely at each buffet we ate at. The sports bar had ok food but, it was quite a hike if you couldn't catch the train that went around the resort.

Beach: Nice beach with again, tons of palms. Unfortunately, during our stay we could only enjoy the beach and water 2 days. The winds were so strong it was impossible to enjoy the beach and water. This is no fault other than mother nature.

We met a few couples that spoke English so we enjoyed their company some evenings. There is a language barrier with most of the staff. I understand we were in a different country; and we speak a little Spanish. But, they did not seem to understand many of our requests.

Overall, if we did return it would not be at the GP complex. Just not for us. I know many who are repeat guests and they love the complex.

It was not a horrid experience at all. Just not the what we enjoy in a vacation. We had fun, of course but, will return to RM or Playa next time.

Any other questions, please feel free to PM me.
