I stayed in IFA villas hotel with my boyfriend Mar7-18. We paid for the superior room and asked the reception guy to give us a room closest to the ocean (4400 block) even though it is next to the loud theatre. We got a room right next to the fitness and theater, with view on the palmtree only but who cares. We had 2 beds, used just one. The rooms are spacious, furniture was I guess renovated, but the room could use some improvements. Electric box in the closet was uncovered, phone buttons were broken, in the shower there was some mold already, toilet paper holder broken.. well for a superior room, I would expect a bit more.
I was not very happy with our cleaning lady either. First day she cleaned ok, then (even though we tipped her regularly) she did not spend much time in there it seems. Bed were tucked in just symbolically, hair on the floor stayed was just moved to a different part of the room with the mop, flowers appeared on the bed just once and one day she did not even bother to tie up the second bed where we threw the extra pillows and blankets.. Again, normally I wouldn't be too sensitive about it...but again...for that price...?
Anyways, not to be too negative. In general the hotel was fine. The staff was friendly, willing to help regardless of the tips, grounds were taken care of perfectly, there is a lot of reconstruction work going on, building new pavements, showers etc by the beach so you always see someone working but they dont bother and all is quiet and clean.
Pools are nice although I would recommend cleaning them a little more often, drinks are good, food is very good but only for the first week, then you really start getting tired of the same choices. We ate a lot of pizza in the pizzeria by the pool.
Animations and evening programs were great although we didn't join, were just watching.
The resort is quite big, the villas are a little far away from the beach but have a little more romantic "feel" to them compared to the upgrade rooms by the beach.
As for the beach itself, it is nice, wide, but to be it was a little bit too crowded and what I disliked the most, are the sunbeds which are worn out and very uncomfortable. Also the swimming area is quite short. We took a walk the first day along the beach and found a hotel right next to IFA (Barcelo) with a beautiful turquoise water, long enough swimming area, huge long beach and perfect sunbeds...that's all we needed, since then we only went to this beach, it was uncomparable to ours.
Also we had a quick look on the hotel grounds although we could not see much as we were from a different hotel so were not allowed to be in that area, but it looked very nice, the toilets were modern, beautiful, swinging nets by the pool, better sunbeds...well from the first look it seemed a lot nicer and if I was to go again, I would probably check out this one. It should be Barcelo Bavaro Beach resort...
To summarize, hotel was nice and we had a great vacation, I did not let the small issues ruin it, but if i look at the price we paid, I would expect to get a little more out of it.
4400 is right next to the theater, quite loud during the evening entertainment til 11pm (but we were...
