“I can't imagine a hotel more beautiful!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

First let me say that we were a little nervous about trying to pick a hotel in Punta Cana b/c of the reviews ! After much research & reading about all the hotels and also keeping price in mind...we booked IFA for my 30th birthday present! We booked on our own through Apple Vacations and got a really good price including airfare. Upon arrival we had our bags taken to our bus by a guy (tipped $4) which was very helpful for us to get on the correct bus as there are many. Short ride to the hotel. Hotel was BEAUTIFUL even from the entrance!! Most buildings are open air and have that romantic tropical feel to them. The bathrooms throughout the place are also pretty nice and very clean. The grounds were keep emaculate and so were the many pools. They have fountains in the pools where you can play in, swim up bar, there are numerous smaller pools and even there is a hidden "jacuzzi" bar on the villas side of the resort where it was often very quiet (jacuzzi are not hot). Our room was kept very clean and was cleaned later in the day which didn't bother us b/c we were not in our room very often anyway. The only thing we had a problem with was getting the free beer that they are suppose to put in the fridge every day. Staff was friendly for the most part, however front desk girl wasn't the most pleasant. We ate at the two buffets for lunch and dinner after trying the Mexian restaurant and not loving the food there. Buffets offer a decent variety of foods and is convenient for people like us who are doing excursions (Saona Island and Zipline) and being gone all day. The food was good, nothing amazing. Never got sick. Water is safe at all restaurants too. Beach was beautiful as well and the water was crystal clear (some days some seaweed). One complaint was the lack of open beach chairs for most of the day..had to lay on sand with towel or use the older, kinda ratty chairs if available but it didn't ruin our paradise! Nightly shows are fun if you like dancing and we enjoyed them very much. BE AWARE of the disgusting speedo wearing men, they are everywhere!! FYI You can smoke everwhere including inside restaurants but I did not see one butt anywhere outside! Also, not many guests spoke English but most employees spoke enough that we did not have any problems which was great. I would totally go back to this place in a heartbeat. Had the best time and made many wonderful memories. We stayed on the Ocean side in room 4139 and it was centrally located to most things which we loved. It's about a 3 min walk to the beach from our room as well. The resort is not as huge as some we heard about where you have to take a golf cart to get places, not sure I would like that. Although the resort was said to be at capacity, it never felt crowded to us especially at the pools on the Villas side (behind the shops).

Room Tip: we stayed in room 4139 on the ocean side (no view of ocean) but liked the location within resort. al...

“It's awful”

The selection of food was very limited, same everyday. The staff were unfriendly for the most part. The maid service was fair, the grounds were ok but not kept well. Sitting at the pizza bar we had plenty of animal interaction chickens & birds during the day and RATS at night. We will not be returning to this resort.

Me and my husband enjoyed the stay from 31/12 2011 to 11/1/2012. We spent whole day outside of the room (bungalow). Food, beach and staff was OK. I was not satisfied with housekeepers, sometimes room was not cleaned at 5 p.m. I really liked Cafe Dominicano with great coctails. I recommed to buy all preeesents in La Romana if you stop there on your way to Santo Domingo. They have half prices. I would go back, because I walked 4 km far from hotel and i liked our beach the most. I really liked beautiful garden.

“friendly staff, beautiful beach”

We had a great time at this resort! Don't listen to all the bad reviews. The people there were very friendly and the beach was exceptional! We spent most of the time on the beach. The food was adequate but I would recommend the specialty restaurants like the Italian and the Caribe. Make your reservations from your room phone between 8:oo a.m. and 9 that day. Keep trying until you get through. We took the Boogie dune buggy excursion in the countryside of D.R. This is a great way to see how people live and some great scenery . Well worth the time and money. Just be prepared to get really muddy and take clothes you don't care about.
If you are concerned with exceptional food and premium drinks then don't go here. All in all we had a great time with some very nice people!

“Good Beach, Fine Food, Valueable Vacation”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 31 January 2012

We have been to this lovely Hotel on January 2012 for just a week. I would start recommendations to the ones planning to stay here, make at least 10 days if possible 14. It is an all inclusive hotel and we were 2 young couples staying at the Villas not the hotel like buildings. They were all clean, rooms are cleaned everyday, towels being changed everyday, just as it has to be. Food were great as well, all inclusive and one of the best thing was, this place has like 4 different a-la-cart restaurants and all were included, you just have to make a reservation each day so you would be able to eat quite good food every night at a different restaurant. Beach was great as well. I thionk it was the best beach of DR, Bavaro. Many sorts of water sports are available, reef diving, swimming with the dolphins, parasailing, wind surfing, kayak, kanos banana etc. Just fine, enjoy as much as you can. There is a Spa Resort inside as well, good to have a relaxing one.

One little kind of disadvantage is the lack of English knowledge of the staff. Sometimes we have had problems communicating with the staff, then comes the body language :)

Room Tip: If possible try to stay around the main swimming pool, to be able to walk everywhere in just 2-3 min...
