“GREAT VACATION..!!!!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

First: there were 5 of us vacationing together, ages from 44 - 67. Yes, it is one hour from the airport, but here is your chance to see some of the local sights not on a tour, and, the time goes fast. The driving can be hilarious with no stop lights or stop signs..keep an eye out...lol...!! Check in was around 9 pm for us and went very smoothly. We paid $50 deposit for a safe key (safe is in the room) and the money was returned when we left. The room was adequate for what we used it for; mainly sleeping and showers. The shower did leak onto the floor so we always asked for an extra towel to put on the floor. Getting supplies for our room (bottled water, soda, towels, etc.) was sometimes late as the second load of fresh laundered towels would come in later, around 4 - 6 pm, but we always got what we wanted, sooner or later and the maids were friendly despite not knowing English. We tipped $1 every day for the Maid, likewise for the Buffet and for drink service in the Lounge. The food was great for the most part; some I found a bit salty and some not quite as hot as it should be, but for the amount of guests they are serving, it was very good. I enjoyed the Buffet (Steak House at night) near the beach also; had lunch there almost every day and the drinks were tasty. Also a Cappucino machine in this Buffet and had great Moccachino and Vanilla Cappuchino's. The A La Cartes were good but I am more a Buffet type person. Also a BBQ on the beach every day - Hamburgers, Hot Dogs, Chicken, Pork. I enjoyed the food where ever I was in the Resort. I found the service to be good; sometimes slow for the morning coffee (are we too impatient..??)but once you had a waiter/waitress, they were there all the time; for refills, clean-up, etc. They were all super friendly, smiling and I found it to be just a good all over feeling. An idea would be to have coffee makers in the room for us morning coffee lovers; but, would food then be brought in to dine in room, or food brought in the night before so you don't have to go to the Buffet in the morning, who knows..?? Then we would be missing the whole experience of going to the Buffet. We hit the beach mid morning and stayed there for most of the day. Two of us would go down to the beach at 8:30am and put our towels on 5 Loungers under a Palapa; we always had a spot on the beach with a good view of the ocean. While we were there - Jan 23 - Feb 6, 2012, we had several rainy days; it didn't last for long, maybe 15 - 20 mins and maybe a follow-up rain storm an hour later for 10 - 15 mins. We don't know if this is typical or we just hit a rough spot in the weather. There was always a breeze off the ocean so it never got too hot on the beach, however, at the pools it was very hot and very crowded. I can be by a pool any day so my happy place was the beach. It was quite spacious and not crowded; the sand was good for walking and I didn't encounter any other resorts in the 15 min walk to either side of the beach. One Note: they had someone at the resort continually cutting down cocoanuts before they fall. Always watch out..!! Sitting under a cocoanut tree can be dangerous if the cocoanuts have not been cut down; falling cocoanuts have killed people..!! The grounds were lovely, trees, grass, flowers, shrubs, walkways; with the big walkway in the middle, it was easy to figure out where you were going..!! There is a gift shop on the beach to the left of the resort, very brightly colored, signs saying, tatoos and hairbraiding where we bought all our souvenirs and gifts. You can barter with them and get up to 40% off their price. Hint: bring them a coke or two from your fridge and this increases your bargaining power..!! They can be annoying by trying to get you off the beach an into the shop, but once they know you and you tell them you already bought there, they leave you alone. The entertainment at night is fantastic; the dancing incredible; make sure to take in the shows as many were the highlight of our trip. All in all I was very happy at this resort and I would return again.

Room Tip: We were in Block E on the second floor. It is a farther walk to the Buffet, Beach but our view was...

“go somewhere better”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 February 2012

Room wasn't ready when I arrived; waited two hours in the lobby.First got put in a mildewy room (all of my clothes that I brought back still smell like mildew....)then they painted the rooms on each side of me with oil-based paint...since the air conditioning ducts are all connected, the fumes almost knocked me out. They moved to to another room, but that took almost three hours out of a sunny afternoon (got passed along to 4 hotel managers who had to hear the same story over and over until they decided to move me).A woman a few doors down came running out of her room with a hanky over her nose and mouth-flagging down the maid, so I'm guessing she was overcome with the paint fumes, too.
Hotel is big, not really kept up very well (could use lots of repairs:broken mirrors, cracked grouting, beautiful flower arrangements in the lobby that have turned brown...). Food is OK, beach is OK, staff is friendly. I wouldn't go back; there are other places in PC that I like much better.

“Wonderful vacation”

We stayed at the Cocotal from 1/29-2/5/12. This was the best vacation ever! We went with another couple and had a fabulous time! The resort is beautiful and you are able to enjoy the Tropical side as well. The pools are large and very clean. The beach is absolutely amazing. We were always able to get lounges (sometimes we had to walk around a bit but we still found them!) The staff goes out of their way to welcome you and make you feel comfortable. The food was great -- we never tried any of the restaurants - I wish we had but we just did the buffets - which was good variety. The nightly shows are absolutely fantastic -- the staff are very - very talented!! We never felt pressure to "buy" anything or take any excursions. We did go on the Boogie ride with was wonderful and a lot of fun - recommend this! Our husbands went Deep Sea Fishing but was a bit rough with the waves! They did get a nice fish though! We stayed in Building I - 2nd floor and had a wonderful oceanview and view of the pool! Building K is the same way - very large rooms and absolutely well kept! I can't wait to go back - highly recommend!!

Room Tip: Bldg. I and K - very large rooms facing ocean and pool!

“Best holidays ever!!!”

We were in this hotel for 2nd time and we enjoyed the great time here again.
The one thing that really impressed me was how the management team made everyone feel like at home. Never saw this attention before.

The staff was very friendly and helpful...Always smiling...The animation team was funtastic. Especially we loved the nightly shows.

We had a regular room. Rooms are spacious and it was clean every day and we had everything that we needed. The maids always did a great job.

We were quite impressed with the food! There is a main restaurant, where was every night different theme of dinner and you can choose from many a la cart restaurants like italien, mexican, japanes, steak house...

I was very happy in Sirenis, so I can recommend this hotel to everyone. :)

“Enjoyable and Friendly Resort”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

We were a group of 5 adults ages 44 - 67 visiting this resort from January 22 - February 6, 2012. We found this resort offering more than the usual 4* accommodations - beverage service in the lobby, great layout, many a la carte restaurants, huge beach area, and varied entertainment. The highlights of this resort are beautiful gardens and beach, great nightly entertainment (we didn't see a repeat show in the two weeks we were there), variety of food at buffets, and friendly staff. The only change I would like to see are designated smoking areas in the main building as there is a lot of seating (probaby a few hundred) that people go to for relaxing and/or having a drink. All 5 of us are nonsmokers and found that we were all suffering with respiratory ailments at the resort, but then felt fine when we went away from the resort on tours; thus realizing this wasn't a common cold. Being an ex-smoker myself, I am not against people smoking at resorts, but would appreciate if the smokers had designated areas. I was glad that we did not have children with us.

The weather was surprising as we thought the Punta Cana area was known for continous sunshine. For the last 10 days we were there, it rained every day off and on, however, we were still able to go to the beach most days. It was also more windier on the beach than what we normally experience on our tropical vacations. I don't know if this is typical weather for this area or if there was a storm front.

As for shopping for the usual souvenir trinkets and such, we found the lowest prices at Nicolle's which is on the Sirenis Tropical side just past the pool area on the beach. I don't know if there is an actual name on the building, but it is a multi-coloured building that also advertises braids and tattoos. Louis gave us some great deals and was very fair in bartering. Staff are friendly and helpful, making us never feeling pressured to buy.

I can't understand how anyone can complain of the food, as the buffets were probably one of the best I have experienced at a 4*. The food is not as hot as I would have preferred, but this is due to open tray-style serving which is common at the larger resorts. I find the smaller resorts have covered trays which keeps food hotter as it isn't exposed.

We dined at all the a la cartes, including the gourmet. All are very good with the exception of the vegetarian, which we found took a long time to get our meal. However, since we weren't in a rush, this really wasn't an issue.

The gym was a pleasant surprise with up to date equipment and air conditioning. It is open for specific hours, not continously throughout the day. You can also go to the spa for 1 hour per day which has cool water jetted tubs and 1 hot tub. It would have been nice to have them all hot tubs as people were waiting to use the hot tub (5 allowed at a time).

All in all, I would return to this resort if they had designated smoking areas. I would also research more extensively the weather in this area so that our next visit would coincide with more sunshine, and less rain and wind.

Room Tip: We were in Building E, second floor, which is fairly close to the entertainment stage and main build...
