“Just a Tad Disappointed”

This hotel had much to rave about, the rooms were lovely, the restaurants and food above average for a Caribbean all-inclusive, a large lovely beach, attentive staff and beautiful grounds. We were just a tad disappointed for two reasons; it's a one hour drive from the airport on narrow winding roads and the ocean surf made it quite dangerous to swim. You really need to be satisfied to lay on beach lounges which are old and need to be replaced. You need to be satisfied to hit the nearby meandering pool to cool off. The shower in our Garden View Rm on the top floor had a glass wall on one side so when you were in the bathroom or taking a shower and put the light on, it shined right on your sleeping companion. Not very romantic or practical!

Room Tip: We were in Building 11 and had a lovely room with a high ceiling. We had friends that had a honeymoo...

I just returned from a five day stay at Punta Cana. We enjoyed it very much. It was all great. THe room and food was nice but it was the people at this resort that made it so much more. I'm happy to say that it was a wonderful experience and I would go back tomorrow if I could. I had two massages both by Oscar and I would recommend him to everyone. Mitia at the desk was very pleasant and helpful with the few questions we did have. Overall a great experience the resort was so well kept it just made you feel good.

“Not quite as anticipated”

Just returned from two weeks at Excellence Punta Cana. The hotel is situated in lovely grounds however there is nothing within walking distance outside the hotel so a stroll along the beach is the only option if you want to escape the resort for a short time.

We were anticipating a 'couples' holiday - quiet times around the pool or on the beach during the day and romantic a la carte dinners in the evening, however we found that there were a number of large groups of people both on conferences and 'reward' holidays. These groups tended to be fairly noisy and to 'take over' areas around the pools, which meant no peace and quiet for other holidaymakers.

The quality of food was variable, ranging from very good to almost totally inedible even in the same restaurant. We had to wait over an hour on one occasion to eat at Chez Isabelle only to find when we were called in that the restaurant was less than a third full, we then waited nearly half an hour for our order to be taken and the food when served was very poor - we did not go back again! We found Toscana to be best for our evening meal but beware the occasions when they are open for buffet service only, due to the outside event having to be brought indoors when it rains, the food is cold and the choice limited.

We spoke to a number of people who were on return visits however each of them said this was probably their last time due to the changes in the hotel's client base. It is understandable, particularly in times of recession, that the hotel would want to take all the bookings it could however the move away from the 'couples' atmosphere could drive away the traditional holidaymaker and prove costly in the longer term.

Room Tip: Buildings 1 - 3 are quieter being away from the main pool.

“The worst resort in DR...”

My wife and I honeymooned at this place. We booked for ten nights in the most expensive suite, but right when we arrived we knew we made the wrong decision. First they rolled a carry on through so much water that my laptop was ruined and they refused to reimburse unless I left the hard drive intact. Then we got to our room, and the screendoor was laying on the deck. The "luxurious private hot tub". Was a bathtub outside that hadn't been cleaned in a while and had no water in it. The food was miserable... And we are not picky eaters. From cold undercooked meat to stale bread. We thought our saving grace would be to enjoy some drinks by the pool, but even those were bad.... Some kind of fake banana juice, and no liqueur... The beer was all that was good. We left after two days, and flew to Miami, then on to Destin where we spent the remainder of our honeymoon very happy.

“Always a charm - Third time back”

Third time to Excellence. What a great place. Very relaxing, excellent beach, nice updates in progress for the rooms and grounds. As always the staff is phenomenal. Altagracia is still making everyone smile - all day long. Benjamin is making all the bars superb. Robert, Gabriel, and Edgar keep the drinks on the beach refreshed. Wilkins has the chairs and towels out everyday.

EIGHT restaurants to chose from - Santa makes the grill special. Victor and Robert take care of you in the evening.

The shows are entertaining - the martini bar delicious.

It is like going home!!
