“A great family vacation - but don't expect 5 stars”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 February 2012

Our 3rd trip to CM in PC ad the experience was even better than the first 2. What makes the trip besides getting some sun? The GO's. Bill the bartender, Mark in Guest Relations, Jessie, Ramon, Kevin and Cynthia on the sports team, Carlos the Beach Boy (keep 'em coming!) and the entire Circus team (Manny, Henry, Alexandra and Wren) were an integral part of the experience. They say DisneyWorld is the happiest place on the earth - I know CM for us is the happiest place! The shows were fabulous, the atmosphere terrific and the folks we meet everytime we go to CM are why we will go back yet again next year. While some complain about the rooms, the language issues and the smoking - people, it's called adapting to your new environment!!! The food was great (Ruben the Executive Chef was there the first time we went there and the food the second time was not as good). It was also great to see some of the same GE's such as Margarita at the Celeste bar who was there last year.

It's clear to our family the GO's love their jobs. The only disappointment - the skateboard park is no longer at this resort and our 12 year old was not happy. We specifically picked this destination knowing there was ramps etc last year and they have since been taken away. Suggestion for CM - when you make these kind of changes you may want to email your previous guests to let them know so we don't haul a skateboard all the way to find out its not there anymore!).

The rooms are 3 out of 5 but I don't go to CM to sit in my room. We got up early, headed to the beach, returned to shower and get ready for dinner and then returned late at night to go to sleep. We did have a minor hot water incident the first day but it was quickly remedied when we let Mark (guest relations) know about it. Going to CM is about spending time with your family, having fun, doing some things you don't normally do in your everyday life and relaxing. Sure, there were people smoking, but we moved to another chair to get away from it. And french, english and spanish are all spoken. I can assure you, people can be understood if they make the effort.

The most memorable moment (there were a lot to choose from): our son participated in the late night circus/trapeze show and "made the catch". He's still walking on Cloud 9.

Thank you to all for making this a terrific and special much needed vacation.
Helen, Tom and Peyton

Best place to go with kids and toddlers.

Baby Club Med and Kids Med make a big difference, kids really have fun all day, while we can rest or share with them if we want.

Foods outstanding, at a french level.

Highly recommended if you wan to rest with kids from 2-16 years

“Wonderful family vacation”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

This was our family's second trip to Club Med Punta Cana. Our children are 4 and 5, so were together in the kids clubs, in the Snoopies group. The CousCous team was outstanding again. Though at first we were disappointed to learn that the irreplacable Juju was away for the week, Alban who covered for him brought similar warmth and creativity to the programming. My kids fell in love with their CousCous team leaders - Alban, Micius, Daphnee, Christine, Sam, Vicky, etc.
Having the kids well looked after during the day meant that my husband I could lounge by the pool, have leisurely lunches, and enjoy the kids shows every night.
I was also impressed to see and speak with the Chef du Village, Barq on several occasions. He had great presence around the place.

“Good Trip, A bit different”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

people found this review helpful

Well we stayed here for 7 days with family and had a very good time. I wish I could give 3.75 stars, but ill give it 4 because the place was mostly clean, pretty well run, with decent food quality and selections, a beautiful beach, a mostly beautiful property, lots of activities, and since we went for free, its a bit easier to get over the small stuff. The resort is huge so be careful where you end up if you have mobility issues, but its nice exercise with all the food you eat with the all inclusive plan here. Our room seemed like it was out in the middle of nowhere, but was clean and modern with no issues. This place seems to be geared toward the French and their children, so beware if culture, crazy little kids, language barriers, and/or cigarette smoke bothers you!

Good:
-Great activities especially for the kids (we didnt have any)
-Beach is gorgeous and huge, plenty of room for all, and very post card like
-Food is above average for an all inclusive in D.R. with lots even for picky eaters
-Resort itself is huge, plenty to move around and do if you do not wish to leave
-Everything seemed satisfactorily kept up
-Great kids camp if you need to ditch the young'ins for the day
-Staff all mostly smile and seem friendly even if they dont understand a thing you are saying
-Some entertainment/shows here and there, trapeeze, etc...
-Tennis center
-Cultural differences, some spanish, but mainly french

Bad
-Place is expensive for what you are getting if you dont have kids
-The entertainment is very repitive and primitive in the main bar/lounge area. Same songs on the same days, over and over and over, I sometimes wonder what the mental health of these poor employees is like
-These kids camp counselors and the kids march around the resort thoughout the day screaming some french song, its cute the first time, laugh out loud the second, all smiles the third time around, and then it turns into an annoyance. For some reason they think its cool to march these terrors back up and down the beach paths, while making them all scream this dumb song at the top of their lungs. So while im napping on the pristine beach in quiet paradise, suddenly im awaken by this greatly disturbing ruckus. I've never hated children more.
-Place caters to the Frenchies: More French guests than american, which means more french speaking employees who dont speak any english than spansih or english speaking, which may also mean your kid is in a camp/daycare thing with french speaking kids and counselors who dont understand english, and the majority of what they do and say is geared to those kids. Not a really a bother for us...
-Some of the resort grounds are mediocre
-Some of the buildings can be way off the beaten path, requiring quite a walk for beach/food
-Part of the Club Med thing is these odd employees who are required/encouraged to eat with you and do randomn activities with you while you enjoy your stay. While typically nice, it can be awkward and most time just weird. I dunno but the staff here is like brainwashed and odd in many ways. We just stuck these odd balls with the grandparents, haha

In conclusion, we had a good trip, but I would prob not return on my own dime just beacuse I think I could get better value elsewhere, with less of the odd atmosphere. One thing to mention is that after the sun goes down, all these french teenagers (mostly girls) hang in the loung and chain smoke cigarettes sometimes sharing them with, or bumming off, their own parents. Now I have no problem with hot young french women smokin butts in pretty lil outfits around the resort, but we had an 11 and 13yr old cousin with us who were not sure what to make of this, as some of the girls seemed well under 17/18 yrs old. These girls also mentioned that the french kids were not nice to them in the shared play areas. The kids were fine though.

Overall a good trip. Get a room near the beach/dining hall and youll be all set.
