“Wonderful Vacation!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 February 2012

We stayed at the Bavaro Princess Spa & Casino outside of Punta Cana for the week of Jan 28 – Feb 3 and had a very enjoyable vacation. If you are staying here, I suggest that you ignore the negativity and focus on what is has to offer. You are here for a limited period, so your time is precious. I don’t recommend that you waste your time with minor issues.

The Bavaro Princess is located close to the Airport (we were the second drop off) and situated on a massive property with probably 100 buildings or more. You will have no worries here; it is safe, very clean with well maintained grounds, and staffed by friendly, hard working people. The resort was full of primarily Canadian, American, and Russian (yep!) tourists.

We stayed in the Platinum area which I highly recommend as I feel the extra few dollars to be well worth the upgrades provided. Our room was very big (approx 350 sq ft), a true suite located on the second floor of one of the buildings. It had a comfy King sized bed, Jacuzzi tub (took forever to fill), his/her sinks, shower, and balcony area with deck chairs. The room was cleaned, bed made, towels replenished, and bar fridge re-stocked daily. We also took full advantage of the free 24 hour room service, private lounge area (computers, premium booze, snacks, etc), and A la carte dinners (including El Licey) that the Platinum package provides.

This resort has one of the finest beaches and swimming areas I’ve ever been to. There is a reserved Platinum section with large cushiony sunbathing beds and loungers, as well as a bar. There is no stress in getting a lounger here as there is an ample supply and you are not allowed to ‘reserve’ one for the day by leaving a towel. You can walk on this beach for miles in either direction. Although it was hot every day, it was also cloudy and windy on the beach. There are a lot of peddlers in the beach areas adjacent to the resorts that are very aggressive and want to take advantage of travelers, avoid them at all costs.

The resort provides a few recreational offerings including tennis courts, a small casino, some water sports as well as a daily host of activities at the main pool, and a nightly show on the stage.

The food was fairly typical of large resorts. The Buffets were not the best, especially breakfast where the same food was served daily. A real downer was NO BACON five days in a row! However, the a la Carte restaurants (which we ate every supper) were very good. My favorite was the Chinese Sakura which had a very good spring roll appetizer and Sweet and Sour Pork dish. The El Licey was a fine dining experience, El Gaucho Steakhouse (twice) had a decent T-Bone or Argentinian steak. The Italian was simply ok; I recommend the Chicken Parmesan with pasta and avoid the Fettucine Alfredo. The Japanese Tappanaki was fun, but the food was only so-so. In fact, it was exactly the same experience as the Grand Sunset Princess in Mexico. We had NO issues scheduling dining at the a la cartes, and even had to change some of our plans last minute without any problems. Also, you can get a decent burger and fries at the McPrincess hut on the beach.

We went on one excursion which was a Catamaran booze cruise where you got to swim with (vegetarian!) sharks, hold a sting ray, and snorkel with tropical fish. An enjoyable experience, but I found the catamaran a little too crowded as well as a little pricey ($90 each) for a half day excursion. I recommend that you bring your own snorkel gear if you are going on this type of excursion, or you end up using the ‘well used’ and unsanitary equipment provided by the tour.

One of the attractions of this resort was that it offered a diverse experience to a variety of different travelers. If you wanted to party, there was always action at the main pool and musicals on stage at night. If you wanted something more laid back, there were lots of areas where you could find peace and quiet, including the pool area near the main building and several ‘ecological’ walking paths.

This was such an easy and worry-free vacation; the flight, bus to/from resort, and rooms were all taken care of by Sunwing. All we had to do was relax and enjoy. We could definitely return to this resort and got good value for our money. The beach area and water alone make it worth the stay.

“A great resort!”

Two couples at the Bavaro Princess All Suites Resort in February 2012. This was our second trip to Punta Cana and our first visit to the Bavaro Princess. The rooms were very clean, the beach and pool were fantastic and the drinks were cold. The food was great (and I am a very picky eater). This was the first resort that we were able to get lounge chairs on the beach or near the pool every day without waking up at 6am. The resort is lush and beautiful with many photographic opportunities. On the negative side, this resort is huge. To get from the lobby area to the beach is a long walk through a maze of cobblestone lanes. I am usually a pretty good navigator but I got lost twice trying to find my room. The shuttle does go around the property but it was never going in the direction I was going and most of the times it was full. The walking helped wear off the thousands of calories I consumed each day. The mangrove area of the property had a slight sewer smell. I was surprised that they did not have coconut rum in the bars but I had no trouble finding a variety of drinks to try. I wish they would have had more staff working the beach grill as there was always a long line to get food near the beach. The positive aspects of this resort far outweigh these few negatives. It is a great resort that I would stay at again.

“Fun Trip, good and ehh!”

We were at this resort Feb 1-7. Traveled with 12 people. 2 couples were in Platinum section.
As stated here many times this is a Big resort. Lots of walking if you are not wanting to take the little train that comes around to transport you from the lobby to beach or room. Not really a big deal to walk. 10-15 minutes tops. it was a nice walk even in the rain one night.
I love the beach and this one did not dissappoint. We spent the majority of our time on the beach. The water was beautiful. walking was great. playing in the water was a great workout. The vendors were cool, never got in your face and always had a smile even if you said, No Gracias!
I loved the little bar at the beach, Chiringo II. CARLOS!! he was always nice and knew us after the 1st day. The Mac Princess was ok in a pinch for a burger and fries. but the El Gaucho restaurant is right there for a bigger selection at lunch and sometimes they served some luncheon specials right under the main palapa in this area near the beach. Dining alfresco is awesome in February when you are from Illinois. Ala Cartes are not in my opinion as good as the buffet in this resort. We tried the steakhouse, chinese food at Sakuri, seafood at El Pescador and pasta at Bella Pasta. To me they were average. But, if you go to the steakouse the argentina steak was excellent per my girlfriend and the hot truffle at the Bella Pasta was a decadent dessert!
Our room was 852, just past the platinum lounge about 4 buildings. we had the suite with a step up bedroom with a king sized. This was a nice room but definitely showing it's age. In fact they had a card on the table with different icons on it. ie: faucet, lights, switches, bar, chair,tv etc. you just marked the icon that you wanted fixed. This was a first for us. I guess they are not planning on any major reno to these rooms anytime soon. The only thing for us in this room was the hairdryer came off the wall one morning as I was trying to get the dryer head off the wall! yikes! crazy! it worked any way and my husband put it back up. Now I have to say my friends were in 856 and had the most strong smell of smoke in their room. It was super bad! They think one of the rooms in our building had smokers in them and it was coming in the vents. I would not have stayed in there just due to fact the smell was so strong! Not sure if a candle or oust would have taken that smell out!

Pool, we went there a few times late in the afternoon after our wonderful day at the beach. Pool bar is swimup with stools or stools on the upper bar near the loungers.it's a nice area, pool and bar.
Be careful when you go there late in the day. they tend to make those last drinks of the day very strong!! I did not see the guy make one of of my drinks but I sure felt it, I kept and eye on them after that! Just watch them and make them throw it out and remake if you get one too strong. Lobby Bar was good! Reynaldo was a nice guy. made good drinks.

This resort was nice overall but not a 5 star in terms of highest quality of food, wait staff in the ala carte not very bilingual, had problems in at least 3 of these places with communication on just the menu items and the rooms need some attention before it gets out of hand.
We paid a fair price for this trip and had a fun trip. If you go and just want to be relaxed and go with the flow, it's worth the price.

Room Tip: platinum rooms are nice as we saw the rooms our friends paid extra. I guess if I wanted a very speci...

“4th time - still excellent”

2nd time with platinum upgrade and well worth it. As a couple we went to Punta Cana Princess (adults only resort) for dinner a couple of times each trip -- recommend Rio Grande and La Petite Fondue - El Pescador at BP is superior seafood restaurant in our opinion. Ala cartes are all very good - pick based on menu that suits you best - you won't be disappointed. Reservations are not required but as platinum you can make them -- since we wanted primetime -- 7:30 - we made them and generally it looked like the wait was about 15 min.

Travelled in the past with family and friends (teenagers and young children too) and everyone was happy.

Great service, beach, pools.

Room Tip: Platinum upgrade rooms closest to beach - well worth price

“very good for Dominican Republic”

I was quite disappointed with Sunwing, to begin with we had to pay $10. for the tourist card and $20 for departure fee, which is included in all the other tour operators. And also they didn't give us proper paperwork, when leaving which caused congestion in the customs lines, please Sunwing keep up to date.
Upon arrival at the Bavaro princess we were in the Platinum, so we had private check-in which was great. Platinum is great, private lounge with premium drinks, Millar beer and Presidente in a bottle and all top shelf liquor. Internet was free, but only 2 computers which didn't always work or were constantly busy. The food was very good, not often is food good at ala carte's but here it was. We didn't try the seafood, but Italian was good, as was the steakhouse, great steak, a bit too salty, but that was the norm everywhere. Chinese was different than we were used too but still good, Japanese was good. And the gourmet restaurant was great, amazing filet mignon. Wine was good at all the restaurants. I think most of the rooms through the restort were very similar, except a few by the lobby which haven't been renovated. We had a jacuzzi in the room, which took forever to fill, the 2 steps up to the bed were dangerous, all the floors are marble so be careful, very slippery. Had bathrobes and slippers in the room, as well as rum, vodka, and rye in the rooms. Beer, soda and water in the frig. Nightly turn down service with lots of clean towels. Platinum rooms are close to beach and the main pool. At the steak house in the day was buffet breakfast and lunch, which we found good, and McPrincess which is open from 10 to 6 had great burgers and fries, first for Dominican, usually are fairly nasty. Buffets always had great pasta if other things didn't interest you. This is a huge resort with lots of walking but the trolleys were amazing, very little waiting. The worst thing we found, not in Platinum though, was some bugs, in the rooms, which resulted in bites, although the resort was always being fumigated. The staff is amazing they try hard, to understand. We went to the spa which at the Platinum you get free 20 min pp which my husband didn't want so I had 40min, and it was amazing, very relaxing. We were also allowed with Platinum to visit Tropical Princess and Punta Cana princess, we didn't bother because all was great were we were. We would definitely return to this resorts. Forgot to mention that the pillows were not good, mattress was fine though.

Room Tip: Platinum rooms are close to beach and main pool, but long way from main lobby
