Do not hesitate on booking your trip to the Iberostar Grand Hotel Bavaro - it is worth every penny! My husband and I (who are both in our mid-20s) just got back from an April 2012 trip and we are so sad to be home! The location is fantastic as it's only a short 20 minutes from the airport. Check-in was wonderful - you're welcomed with a drink (pina colada or champagne) and a wet towel. Our room wasn't ready when we got there (about 3pm) but we walked around the resort and ate a buffet lunch and our room was ready by 4pm. We were then brought to our room and shown everything by Edgar, who was fantastic! He showed us how to use the safe, where our mini bar was, how to operate the shades in the windows, etc. He also informed us that we'd have 2 butlers who could get us ANYTHING include draw us a jacuzzi bath whenever we wanted! We did have our bath drawn one night, complete with rose petals and chilled champagne! The room was beautiful and we did not have an ocean front suite - I guess if you want to pay extra money then upgrade, but I was pleased with our room...it had a great view of the ship and you could still see the ocean behind it. Edgar booked us reservations at the restaurants for each of the next four nights we were there...so we only had to do the buffet dinner twice (which was still delicious!). Speaking of the restaurants...they were all amazing! There is French, Japanese, Italian, and Surf & Turf...we did all but the Surf & Turf and that's only because I thought the reservation was at 8pm but was really at 7pm (I didn't look at the receipt correctly!). Anyway, as I was saying, the food is very top notch, better than some of the high end restaurants I've been to anywhere! The service was also exquisite...we did tip every time we ate a meal (breakfast, lunch, & dinner) but did not see everyone do this. The staff work very long hours and are they're there pretty much everyday so we felt the need to reward them with tips! The entertainment was good, we went to a few of the shows in the theater and enjoyed them...particularly the musical one. The entertainment throughout the day was fun too, lots of games were around the pool area and there were different classes everyday you could go to like dance classes, Spanish lessons, archery, etc. We loved the staff - particularly Gato, Black Boy, Boom Boom, and Rosy at the pool! My husband and I did the spinning class twice, which was taught by Black Boy, and it was great! Speaking of the gym, it is beautiful! It's on the second floor and has phenomenal views of the ocean and beach and top of the line equipment (I think there's about 6 treadmills, in addition to ellipticals and exercise bikes and weights). I also used the spa to get a 50 minute massage, and it was amazing. The spa is wonderful and has so much to offer and is not too pricy. The grounds of the resort were also fantastic - palm trees everywhere and there's a pond area in the front that has several flamingos in it. The beach was perfect with very soft, cool sand. There were always loungers by the pool and on the beach - a lot were taken but if you look, you'll find some available! We did one excursion - horseback riding on the beach, and we highly recommend it! As for the weather, I looked up the forecast and it said it was supposed to rain most of the days we were there (between 30-60% chance) and it never rained until the last day (and we were leaving anyway so we didn't care) - so pretty much disregard the forecast! The only downside to this resort when we stayed is that there were a lot of older people (like seniors) and we are young. We have stayed at one resort in the past in Jamaica (Riu Negril) and were able to make friends that were our age there, but we didn't have any such luck this trip! This wasn't a big deal at all, and didn't really bother us, but it could be one "negative" I suppose. All in all, we LOVED the Iberostar and would prefer to stay in their line of resorts for any future travel. We booked our trip through Beach Bum Vacation with Melissa, and she did a perfect job! We had absolutely NO issues and will of course book all future trips through her!
