“It was ok!”

Just came back from La Romana. We stayed at the Bahia principe. Overall it was ok. If your looking to relax and veg at the pool than this is the place to be. If your a beach person as I am, you will be disappointed. Water is merky a greenish colour. Not turquoise as in pics. We found out later that they built levies so the run off is mixed and not clear. A lot of sand fleas my friends got bit a lot. Oh remember to bring bug repellant spray your feet will thank you for it. Lol. They hotel would spray the snack bar and entertainment area every night to get rid of the bugs, but if your hanging out at the snack bar for some drinks or outside of the club be ready for some mosquito bites. It is an older person resort. When we were all there we were the minority under 40 years that is. Everyone looked retired or our parents age Lights went out at 11:00pm in the lobby. So if your using wi-fi get use to using it in the dark. The staff has to clean the lobby before they leave at midnight, so they try to suffle the people across to the other sude of the resort to the club and snack bar area. Service was great. The staff was very friendly Took them a long time to get coffee in the morning but otherwise food was good. Lots of variety at the buffet. Gourmet restaurants were good to. You have to request lobster when you make reservations. There is an additional cost to that if your interested. Grounds were beautiful and well kept. We went on a catamaran tour to a national park were we stopped at a shallow pool where you got to pick up starfish and hold them. Then off to an island with white sand and turquoise water absolutely breath taking. Well worth the $65 we paid. Food and drink included. Overall it is what you make of it. I and most of my friends had a good time. Some didn't. It was there loss. if your looking to party then this is not the resort for you. What we heard was that the Bahia Principe in Punta Cana is twice as large and a lot better. But that is what people who we met there said. Oh and the pool is really nice to that's where we mostly stayed because it f the disappointing beach. I wouldn't go back. Only cause of the beach. I might try punta cana next time. Trust me the food was a a lot better than Cuba. Have fun if your going! Happy traveling!

“DAMN!!!!!!!!!!!!!”

As with all Gran Bahia Principe resorts, the grounds are exceptionally clean and well maintained. When I go on vacation to the Caribbean, I expect the water to be crystal clear and the sand to be fine and soft. NOT AT THIS LOCATION! The beach (which apparently is close to a river) is absolutely horrible. The water is brown, much like the Hudson River in New York. After seeing how dirty the water was, I didn't attempt to go in. We did meet some great people, one of which went in the water with a white shirt on. When he came out of the water, his shirt was brown! There were not many people lounging at the beach either, there was a major mosquito problem...so if you do choose to stay here, bring bug spray or you will be miserable! We were at this resport for one week and stayed at the pool the whole time - not my type of vacation. We were so disappointed with the beach at this place, we will never return. This was my 3rd time at a Gran Bahia Principe (previously stayed at Esmeralda and Ambar) and will never return to the location in La Romana. I do highly recommed the Esmeralda and Ambar in Punta Cana - two of the best vacations of my life! Going back next week to the Esmeralda!

“"Beware disabled/wheelchair"”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

If you are in a wheelchair or disabled, don't go here. We were mislead and lied too.. all the rooms are the same, all have a tub and no wheel in showers. We were there for two weeks and were told there were only 4 rooms that were accessible///// its a huge LIE!!!!!!.. I hope by this report you will change your mind unless your willing to ask for assistance everywhere you go at this resort. So many things to say... for us, My bf who is in a wheelchair couldn't shower for the 2 weeks due to no shower access. No access to pool, casino or beach. Other than that, we tried to make the best of it. The grounds were kept beautiful, food alright and good sleep. It was all so shady the lie that surrounded our trip and the promise of a wheelchair accessible room. Just beware when booking your vacation here. Dont get the deep therapy message...they broozed my legs. Its a crap shoot.

“Sick”

We travelled as a group of 22, The pool water was cold and so were the showers. All 22 people in our group were very sick vomiting and the runs. Alcohol is not the reason as some of us do not drink. The zip lining trip was to be a half hour bus ride, but ended up being three and a half hours each way on a very uncomfortable stake truck. All the alcohol is normandy and it all tastes like tequila. Five dollars if you want a premium shot. We did bring our own, but they wouldnt give you any ice then. Cold showers and pool and warm drinks. The staff was wonderful even though they spoke little to no english. We asked about going to town and were told thats not a good idea it is not safe. So there we sat. The grounds are gorgeous!! As well some of the people were eaten alive by something. The welts on their arms and legs were huge.

“Stay in Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 February 2012

Stayed Jan 30-Feb 6/12. Service was excellent. Always a friendly face cleaning and/or serving. Exceptional food for a buffet. Many choices and well cooked. A-la-carte was not all it is cut out to be. It is very elegant and the food is well presented if you are looking for a 'served' meal although the salad and desert bar was buffet. More servers than diners. Few childrens activities and a disco from the 70's that only drew a handfull. This results in a perfect resort for someone who just wants to lay back and relax (with a cold drink of course). The only drawback we found was the smokers. There are NO non-smoking areas and thus, just when you get settled, someone comes and sits upwind of you and lights a cigarette. The smokers are really quite rude also with flicking their ashes on the pool deck (when the ashtray is right beside them) to throwing their butts all over. The staff is very good at cleaning up after the these slobs but this would have been a 100% resort without the smokers. Contrary to other comments, we had a bottom floor room right on the outside of the resort and had seen no bugs, rats or any other pests. No sand fleas, mosquitos (but did see 1 fly).
