We have owned a timeshare in Puerto Plata for 6 years at the Grand Oasis (changed names and ownership 4 times I think). It is a great place. Lifestyles bought it and our membership structure and fees were changing that we essentially got forced to buy into Lifestyles. Last year was the first year we went and ended up at the Crown Villas. The rooms we were shown on our tour the year before were not what we got. We got dirty, small rooms despite being VIP members with 2 bedroom suites. The complimentary annual passes to Seaworld which we were promised were no longer part of the deal (apparently since it wasn't in our contract we don't get it although at the time we signed on all VIP members got it). The place is huge and you have to take a shuttle everywhere and wait and wait. We were so unhappy with our rooms and they couldn't find us any others like the ones we were shown so after trying to get us to pay a lot for upgrades to a higher level membership they moved us to the resort next door which was very nice. Not quite as good as the Grand Oasis but we were able to share the facilities at both clubs. The food and beds at the Lifestyles beach are great. The beaches themselves leave a lot to be desired, certainly nowhere near the nicest in Puerto Plata and often dirty and lots of seaweeds. Overall the resort facilities are decent, not enough seating for meals, the specialty restaurants were nice but the accomodations were terrible and the getting around the resort was difficult. We will probably only go back a few times with all the timehare we now own but try and trade off for other other destinations and hopefully spend a few more winter weeks at the Grand Oaiss.
