we went to the allegro because we could, not get to our original resort. it seemed comparable to our original destination. my wife and i have travelled to the dominican many times and we always try to bring friends along that have never been there, and so was the case here. the couple that travelled with us have never been out of canada before. For the first 4 days we noticed at breakfeast there was never any bacon. there was absolutly everything else you could imagine, but no bacon. The resort was slow due to the fact it was october and slow season. i just assumed that due to the fact it was slow they would not be offering the total package and along these line the buffet was cancelled and in its place we had many el lacarte .but on the 5th day i asked about having bacon for breakfeast the next morning.the response was immediate. we were giv,n about a pound of bacon brought to our table, while everyone else at the resort watched. and then every morning ffor the rest of our holiday, we recieved bacon with our breakfeast without asking. everything else was ,as usual amazing. this resort was all and more than i would hope for and our friends have already been back to the same resort. thank you to all the managment and staff for an amazing holiday.p.s. the slide in the pool was too much fun for a 54 yr old.lol felt like a kid again.

“Allegro is fantastic”

Allegro is a very laid back resort with lots of perks. I went with one of my girlfriends (she's 20, I'm 24), and our time in the Dominican couldn't have been better. The resort is constantly being cleaned and maintained (they love their power-washing!), the staff is very friendly and our room was always kept neat. We didn't care to pay the $20 for the safe, and in the end our things were safe anyway!

Food at the buffet and a la carte is always fresh, the themed nights have really great specialty dishes. Drinks were fine for us, not watery at all. The only thing we didn't enjoy was snack options between meals and after dinner (mostly hamburgers/hot dogs and fries), but we filled up enough with the daily buffets!

The entertainment staff... incredible. ALL INCLUSIVE means all inclusive ;) they work very hard to make sure everyone's having a great time, tip them if you can! We made some good friends with the staff, definitely coming back soon. Hector and Carlos on the beach are really great to talk to, Charlie (one of the Occidental staff) is hilarious. The animators really know how to dance and have a good time, and the DJ makes the tiny disco at the resort a fun night every night. We're really going to miss them all, especially our free daily SPANISH lesson by the pool! Even when the animators were too busy, the diving instructor (Hansel!!) gave us our spanish lesson! And now I can say more than 30 words, and a few sentences. Thanks, guys!

The beach is amazing, however a little windy. The pool is also really nice. Dominican weather is a bit crazy, so it rained on and off during our trip (January 27-February 3), but when the sun is out you can have a really nice day. Watch out for mosquitoes! I normally get bit more than the average person... I was eaten alive. But if you drink enough beer, it doesn't really matter. Just don't go frolicking on the grounds at night and you'll be fine. Visit the CoCo Bongo at the plaza after the resort bar closes at 1 - it's open until 7am and free for us to get in. The casino on the resort is a little dated, but lots of fun.

If you're looking for an inexpensive, all inclusive, relaxing time then this is a good resort for you. Lots of young people, and lots of families.

Room Tip: Doubles room on the second floor away from the main resort is nice and quiet with a beautiful view o...

“Nothing wrong with this resort”

I went to the Allegro with my two children ages 12 and 9. We were a little nervous to go after reading some of the reviews on here!
We all had a great time. The wave pool area kept the kids busy all day and David, the life guard was fantastic with the kids. The wave pool was only turned on once a day however. The water slides are fun.
We booked the Paradise Island snorkelling trip with Hector at the beach entrance. I don't recommend the trip. It's a very long journey via bus and boat for a very short amount of snorkelling. It's definitely not a kid friendly location. It was too rough.
Overall, for a three star resort the Allego was a very very pleasant surprise.
I would go back.

“Good solid hotel”

The Allegro is very nice, food is good, rooms are clean, staff is helpful and freindly. Only problem with resort was on weekends they let locals stay there, its very over crowded and rowdy. If I wanted to stay with locals i would have rented a place in town and not a resort. The animation staff is fantastic, they get you up rather at the pool or in the evening at the shows. we brought our 12 yr old daughter with us, they were wonderful with the kids, they got them all up on stage everynight and did a kids show before the the adult show. Mosquito, mini monkey, rocky and tequla are there names and they are great, my daughter is still talking about them. The disco is right in the middle of resort and is all age freindly, my daughter had a blast. All in all the resort was a good experience and would go there again.

Room Tip: Bring tons of bug spray, mosquitos are really really bad!!!!

“Had a lovely time!”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

I'll just start by saying I went to this hotel in June 2010 so this review might be slightly outdated...

However I'll give my honest feedback nonetheless...

The hotel:

When we arrived at the hotel, we were greeted with cocktails whilst we waited for our buggy which took us and our suitcases to the hotel. We tipped the porter boy who was excellent. We had a view of the green hotel grounds from our balcony which was pretty enough. The room we stayed in was in a sort of apartment block, which was nice because the little apartments were spread out over the hotel so it was quiet and peaceful. The grounds are beautiful, very green and so clean! The staff are extremely friendly! There were 3 pools, one which was in a much more quiet location and had a wave pool and then a big slide for the kids (which we all enjoyed using too haha) Each pool had its own pool bar where the staff were lovely, and the cocktails were AMAZING. There was a 24 hour pool bar upstairs which was very handy indeed. and they served sandwichs for us when we came back from nights out lol. This hotel is PERFECT for families, even though we were a group of friends, the hotel is packed with families and the kids club was so good, the staff knew all the kids names by heart and really worked hard to make sure the kids were looked after always. The entertainment was good, something every night!

The room:

It was airy and spacious and the maid came everyday ...I don't think she changed our sheets everyday though...and we did have a problem with ants, but that didn't bother us much as we didn't spend much time in our room. There was enough storage space for the three of us,,,bearing in mind we were young females with loads of shoes and clothes LOL. Our safe worked perfectly fine and we used it throughout our stay.

Food:

There was a lot of options, I remember there being three restaurants, the main restaurant which was buffet style and then the other 2 which were a la carte and you had to book to go to them, which I think was restricted to about twice a week for each. It was nice going to the caribbean restaurant which is right on the private beach. The main restaurant was average, with a fair mix of food, something to suit everyone. There was also a restaurant by the main swimming pool which seemed to be open 24 hours a day or at least until very late say about 3-4am serving chips, pizza etc

The beach:

The hotel was right on the beach and had a little pathway from the pool which led straight onto the beach. Sun loungers were free. Restaurant and bar on the beach. Was beautiful. They also throw beach parties now and then.

The area/Things to do:

Puerto plata is a small resort with not much there apart from a hard rock cafe, a nightclub and a few shops. Its best to do the excursions and get out, explore DR! We went horseriding through the mountains which was amazing, we got to make our own cigars and they had a little bbq of their native food at the top of the mountains. It was great to see how the natives lived on the mountains, their little houses were beautiful. This was a trip that will stay with me for life. You also get to buy the tradtional DR rum.

You should also try to do the white water rafting, and any other trips if possible! We went out to Caberete one night which is buzzing! The beach is BEAUTIFUL and at night they have awesome parties.

Overall we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves!!
