Arrived at this resort late, and was plesantly surprised to find how quickly we were checked in, given a welcome drink, and escorted to our clean, spacious room. Hungry from the long trip, it was great to also see a cheese sandwich, fresh fruit, and bottle of water awaiting us.
Our first floor room was quite adequate for the amount of time we actually spent in it, our only issues being our inability to shut off the air conditoner, aside from shutting off power to the room with our room card - thereby also shutting off TV and all other power. Secondly, the bedroom lighting was quite dim, although probably energy efficent. The TV was a decent size with approximately 3 or 4 English speaking channels. We found the shower pressure and temperature was generally quite adequate, with only a few hours when the water pressure was nil - generally later in the evening. No hair dryers ladies. Our kingsize bed was firm, comfortable and clean. We opted out of the $15.00 for a room safe for the week, and had no issues - although a friend we were travelling with did have her bag, including camera and new cell phone stolen from a nearby beach.
The meals at the resort were quite adequate, with something for everyone. There was also the made to order grill area for great breakfast omlettes, made with love by the man of a million smiles "Marcio". Tried the Italian, Caribbean and Mexican a la cartes finding them all quite decent, and a nice change from the regular dinner buffet. Remember, this is a 3.5 star resort, so dont look for ice sculptures of swans, and mile long buffet tables !
The service all around the resort was excellent, from the bars, to the dining room to the cleaning staff and reception employees. The resort was very clean wherever we went, while we always felt safe - no soldiers running around with machine guns like in some countries.
The beach lounge chairs are starting to show their age and developing some serious sag, but nothing that a few pina colatas or beer couldnt remedy. While there were two kayaks and a windboard available for use at the beach, the reality is the wind, waves, current and coral would probably prove quite formitable. The beach was very clean and beautiful, with my wife and I often going for long walks in each direction every morning. We did borrow a bicycle one day, and found the best bike we could find to be creaky with barely inflated tires.
While the beach salesmen were initially very annoying, peddling everything from time shares to jewellery, tshirts and statues of elephants humping, we found their assertiveness waned as our week progressed and our tans started to develop.
We had positive experiences in many of the offsite excursions we did including the Fiesta 151 tour, Bravissimo Show at Ocean World, and Cable Car ride.
The shows at the resort were pretty basic, and mildly entertaining. If you're into big productions for your nightly entertainment, this isnt the place for you. If you're looking to relax in peace and quite, enjoy clean, beautiful beaches, eat good food, sleep in clean accomodations, and interact with friendly staff, this resort is for you - not to mention the great value for your money !! With our total trip cost coming in at just under $600,00 each, it was great value for the money !
