“Almost Perfect”

Let me begin by saying that dealing with Bob Mehl was a tremendously pleasurable experience. When I first inquired about renting from him, there were no villas available. However, while at the resort, he was able to acquire accommodation for us and because he had one of the best rates available, we booked a three bedroom villa through him. Not only were his rates very good, but he had also secured one of the cheapest all-inclusive rates of $57.50 per day, which I believe he has locked in until 2014.

Any questions, comments, concerns I wrote to him about, were responded to immediately and honestly. I had read several reviews on the Lifestyles Holiday Vacation Club (including all of the terrible ratings) and asked Bob why these people were so disappointed. He was able to answer all my concerns and put my mind at ease. One also has to note that people's opinions are subjective, not objective, and something that may bother one person, may not bother another.

I know, I know, get to the review of the resort. As guests of Bob, he started off our vacation on a high note, when a stretch limo picked us up at the airport. While others attending the resort had to fit into a traditional mini bus, we were transported to the resort in luxury, with alcohol and soft drinks on board. Please note that access to the limo was based on availability, as members get first dibs.

Upon arrival at the Villa Reception, were were checked in very quickly and taken to our villa (9B), which was a three bedroom villa. Each bedroom had a king size bed, it's own ensuite and access to the exterior via patio style doors. There was a kitchen, a large living space (i.e. dining area, living room) and most importantly, our own private pool. We were shown around the property by Sybille, an extremely kind villa representative, who explained how everything on the resort worked, booked us a restaurant and dealt with any other requests we had.

Unfortunately, due to it being high season, we did not receive our golf cart on the first day. Nor could we book any of the restaurants for the first few nights. However, after contacting Bob, via email in the villa reception office, we had a golf cart by the second day and as mentioned earlier, Sybille managed to get us into the Bellini Italian Restaurant and organized a BBQ at our villa. It turns out that it was probably for the best that we didn't go to an a la carte restaurant each night, as my 17 month old son threw a fit at practically every meal and my wife and I felt bad for the other diners.

Being guests of Bob's, we had access the VIP areas on the resort, however we didn't use them enough to provide much of a comment. Most mornings we took the kids to the VIP beach. The beach beds were usually all spoken for when we arrived, but it didn't really matter, cause the kids wanted to play in the sand by the water line. Had it just been my wife and I, one the beds might have been a nice touch. There were several bars and places to eat throughout the resort as well. However, we stuck to the kid's eating schedule, so we weren't able to take advantage of all of them.

As far as meals went, we had the maid cook breakfast for us on 5 of the 7 mornings we were there. Breakfast consisted of eggs, bacon, french toast, pancakes, fruit, breads and juices. On the other mornings we ate cold cereal, which was provided to us in the little individual boxes, and which I think the kids enjoyed more! The majority of our lunches were eaten at the Casablanca buffet, which I found had a lot of variety and high quality food. The dinners at Casablanca were all themed and offered even more variety. The only restaurants we attended were the Bellini (as mentioned above) and Trapiche (Mexican). Both were very good and would have been excellent if my wife and I had used the babysitting service to leave the kids at the villa.

If you're wondering why I didn't give the resort a 5 out of 5, it's because of the villa. We were in the older section of the resort and thus had an older villa. I requested a new or newly renovated villa at check in, but was told they didn't have anything else. You could see that the villa was older once you went inside, but it was kept clean by the maids and served it's purpose. There were a few issues with leaks, the television and closet doors, which weren't a big deal in the grand scheme of things, but enough not to award the resort a perfect score.

In conclusion, renting from Bob scored a 5 out of 5 and had we been lucky enough to get one of the newer villas, this could easily have been an Excellent rating. Therefore, just remember that when booking at this resort, the members can only do so much and I suggest you book through Bob.

Enjoy,
Scott

Room Tip: Request a new or newly renovated villa.

“BEST OF LUCK!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 February 2012

Let me start by saying that I am an Interval member. Upon arrival at my room, it was not what my confirmation had stated. It was a very outdated unit with no amenities which were listed on the confirmation letter. No coffee pot, no microwave, no cooking facilities etc. Needless to say the concierge had no interest in resolving the issue nor satisfying the customer. So we decided it wasn't all about the room, we'll make the best of it.

The food at the buffet was fair at best. The restaurant food was good, but getting a reservation was unpredictable. You'd have to make your reservation the morning of your pre-planned dinner between the hours of 9:00 a.m. & 11:00 a.m. with your own concierge. How can all the reservations be gone at 9:00 a.m.???? Yes, I was told they had no more reservations. On one occasion I was lucky enough to actually get a reservation, but when I went to pick up my confirmation ticket, they couldn't find the reservation - amazing! The wait staff in the restaurants are very good, the wait staff at the buffet - terrible!

We were, like most everyone, contacted by a salesperson so he could make his pitch to us about buying in to the resort. Was he kidding???? We had a brief discussion with him (and I mean brief) and there ended any VIP perks. Apparently if you want to invest 3-6 hours and listen to a sales pitch, you can have some of the VIP perks, like access to the VIP beach, top shelf liquor, more restaurant choices etc. With the service we received (or lack thereof) we were certainly not interested in listening to any pitch.

After several conversations with other Interval members it was our observation that the resort is not interested in customer service when it comes to Interval visitors. We were not the only ones who were downgraded from their original confirmation.

Bottom line, I will not be returning to this resort or any other LHVC resort mainly due to such poor customer service.

So many things to do, so many places to visit - think long and hard before you visit this one!

“Restful stay in Puerto Plata”

Had a very nice and restful stay at Lifestyle Holidays Vacation Club. We ate all our meals at the buffet, and each meal had something different. We could always find something we liked, and something new to try. You've not at home anymore, so don't expect the same quality of food, and sometimes service is alittle slow. But the people were very friendly, and tried to satisfy you. Our room was nice, and kept clean. Fresh towels, room cleaned, beds made, and toiltres daily. The refigerator wasn't stocked unless asked to.

The pool was cleaned daily, grounds raked & cleaned daily, beach areas were cleaned daily, seamed they were always keeping the grounds clean and presentable. They had daily activies, and shows, not first class, but good. The drinks at the bars were ok, they didn't use expensive liquor, and sometimes you had to tell the bar tender to go easy on the liquor, but they tried to give you what you wanted. All of the staff, from the front desk to the maids, the entertainers, bartenders, everyone was friendly and helpful.

We just wanted to get away for a week and relax. Thats what we did. We stayed on the complex except for walking alon the beach. I feel we had a great vacation for what money we spent. Dollar for dollar, we're happy.

Room Tip: If your looking for a quiet room, ask for a room not overlooking the pool. But rooms overlooking th...

“Go with the lowest of expectation to this place”

My wife and I chose to go to this place on our honeymoon. We did the research and read the reviews. We bought on cheapcaribbean.com. Do not get to excited about going to this resort. The service was absolutely terrible. We were on our honeymoon and the staff did not seem to give a crap. We ate at Casablanca on several occasions. The food there was disgusting. It makes me wonder if the people that cook there even taste the food they are preparing. If you are not a VIP, good luck trying to get a reservation at the restaurants. The food at the restaurants is mediocre. The best of the restaurants, I thought, is Bellini. The drinks at this place was also awful. They use the most generic liquor, in fact, the bottles of booze has generic labels on them that state "Classic Rum" or "Classic Vodka" etc....... The drinks were so bad that my wife and I stopped drinking alcohol and stuck to bottled water. We did have a good excursion to Ocean World and Bravissimo show, and if you have the unfortunate pleasure of staying at Lifestyle resort, I would recommend doing these. The service at the resort was pretty poor. The service as the restaurants was abysmal. Be prepared to have a long dinner. The best service is at the buffet in the morning. They are good about getting water and coffee.

This is a member resort and if you are not a member you are treated like a lower class citizen. You will be subjected to doing a tour of their facility and their sales pitch on the second day of your vacation. We had a conversation with the tour guide on our tour. We talked to him in regards to the resort. We told him that we bought our vacation on cheapcaribbean.com and were not impressed with the service. He stated to us that there is a saying in america, "You get what you pay for". This is the mentality of this vacation company. They do not care about the people that are there unless you are a VIP.

The location and the weather was nice. I actually found a positive remark about this place.

Needless to say, I would not recommend any of the Lifestyle vacation spots. My wife and I will never go to a Lifestyle resort again.

We stayed at the presidential suites on the resort, took our inlaws with our family. We were treated like royalties, my inlaws were very impressed of how big the resort was and much food they serve 24-7, the remarkable staff who helped you with everything you need or anything you ask for its there within minutes of ordering it.
There is so much to do on the resort and never busy where your waiting to be served, there is so much to tell about this resort, i would highly recommend it to anyone who wants amazing trip thats not expensive, We have also stayed in the villa's in 2009 and went down with 18 people, they accomidated us with no problems when making reservations for dinner.
I have also had a few couples go down there as my guests and have had the vip treatments as i do as a supreme member. What more could you ask for, a wonderful vacation with beautiful senary and lots of sunshine.
