We are a couple in our sixties, globetrotters, who stayed 6 days in January 2012.
The hotel is a $ 40, 20-30 min., ride from SDQ airport and a $ 12-15 from the Colonial Zone. If you are a tourist you will spend your time in the Colonial Zone, there isn´t much to do near the hotel.
The hotel seems to appreciate Ambassador Club guests and most floors are occupied by them according to signs in the elevators. They take no notice of Priority Club membership neither gold nor platinum. We didn´t get any of the privileges Priority Club members are supposed to have, i.e. room keys were not ready when we arrived, we didn´t get newspapers to the room and a rapid check-out was denied! We were offered a $ 45 pr.night upgrade, which we declined, but understood that the offer would include a breakfast. We had booked, through ihg.com, twin bed seaview room but it took a heated discussion to get that kind of room. The feeling of not being appreciated guests stayed with us the whole time.
The room was spacious, the beds, furniture and bathroom were all right, the internet worked and they have a selection of TV channels. The overall standard was as at a bit run down Holiday Inn.
The gym looked good, we didn´t use it, and the pool area with a little pool was attractive.
We never had breakfast. We had dinner twice, the first tasted and looked good, the second was a set menu and looked and tasted like a rather poor take-away.
The lobby looked good and there were some lounges which we didn´t use.
We think there is a serious attitude problem at the front desk, unless they intentionally try to be rid of all those who do not choose to be Ambassador Club members.
On three occasions we came to the reception: The first receptionist -who tried to accommodate us in a standard double room, though we had booked a twin with a seaview, three months in advance,- felt the reason to send (a peace offering?) a plate with fruit and one glass of tapwater to the room when we finally got a room. Another receptionist told me off the next day when I asked for a newspaper. The third receptionist said the night before we left, when asked, that rapid check-out was out of the question because we might use the minibar during the night (we never used the minibar during the whole stay!) and we had to stand at the desk and wait for paying the bill until sbd. had checked the (untouched) minibar! They had had our credit card nr. since the time we booked.
We were glad to leave.
