After learning about Jungle Bay from Nat Geographic I was super excited to visit Dominica and this resort and it moved to the top of our list for our honeymoon. From the first time we contacted the resort to the hand-off at the airport when we left the staff was wonderful. They are an attentive, close-knit group who strive to make sure you are welcomed and love your trip.

Travel:
The island is remote and somewhat difficult to get to and around on. The roads to and from the airport and the whole island are part of the whole adventure. Expect a lots of turns, a lot of horn honking, and breathtaking views.

Accommodations:
Stunning! I love the simplicity of the cottages. The showers are so cool and you'll love the decks and your own personal hammock. The views are stunning and while other cottages are near by, you'd never notice with the sound of the ocean and lush forest between them. Expect a climb to your room, it's well worth it!

Food:
Yum! Ask for 'tablet'! We had it on a hike and it's a delicious local cookie crumb like sweet. I wish I had asked for the soup recipes. Every night it was something new and different and delicious. Also, the nightly side dish was always something local and yummy and definitely worth trying.

Staff:
So kind, attentive, hard working and genuinely interested in making sure you are comfortable, well fed, find what you need, safely arrive and enjoy the journey, and are just overall content with your stay.

Excursions:
We did the Boiling Lake hike, Champagne snorkeling, tried to do Victoria Falls, and the Glasse hike. Boiling Lake was a HIKE, but so worth it and a lot of fun. Our guide Keith was excellent, even hauling pineapples up to share at breaks. It was extreme at times, be prepared, but it was not as scary as we thought it was going to be. Be sure to do the Titu Gorge afterwards. It is a nice treat and so cool!
Victoria Falls we missed as the rivers were too high to cross. Justin is an awesome guide and we appreciated that he noted the issue and took us on another hike. We did the Glasse hike instead. Justin helped us find turtles swimming in the water. Pretty cool!
The snorkeling was a lot of fun, though be prepared for a lot of driving for not a lot of time in the water. They had switched the days too so we ran into a lot of Cruise folks, which was annoying, but the bubbles are still pretty amazing and it's a big place so you're not running into folks too much. Later in the day Justin took us to Scott's Head where we snorkeled again with nobody around and actually found a sea turtle and rainbows from the recent rain storm. One of the prettiest sites I've ever seen.

Spa
Loved the daily spa session. And the location, wow! Coolest treatment rooms I've ever seen.

Overall:
Beautiful, warm, inviting, special place. Don't go here if you're looking for a beach, a lot of rum drinks (though they do make a good rum punch and Kabuli (the local beer) is pretty good after a long hike). Do go here if you want to go somewhere different without a lot of tourists, learn lots of new things culturally and environmentally, and want a special experience you won't find at the average resort.

I have to admit, this review is one year overdue. But we recently took a trip to Grenada and it made us realize just how much we loved Dominica and the Jungle Bay Resort. First, they upgraded us to the honeymoon suite, since it was low season and the suite hadn't been booked. It was fabulous, but it involved a lot of steps!! Normally, this wouldn't be a problem for us. But after doing the Boiling Lake hike, it was painful just getting to our room. We laughed about it the entire time and we still get a chuckle but it really was tough on our sore muscles.

That said, the resort is focused on service and it shows. The food was great and the massages fabulous. We appreciated the activity room when it rained and used the ping-pong table once or twice. It is a bit of a drive from other restaurants and such, but we found it really enchanting. We also loved the hammock on our private balcony. I can't say enough good things about this hotel.

Dominica is a place apart and Jungle Bay offers a comfortably rustic perch from which to

We actually spent a week here in January 2011. This was an adventure vacation, and not the place to sunbathe. It was all we were looking for. The Jungle resort was beautiful, private and very relaxing. The cottages are very nice, and the outdoor enclosed shower is great. The volcanic pool is small but all that you need. The shoreline is not beach, good for a stroll, but not swimming. The restaurant is nice, quiet, quaint with wholesome organic food - not gourmet but very good and prepared by tradition of Dominica. Service is great.

Yoga in the morning was fun, and late night entertainment was filled with ping-pong, TV in the main building, internet if you wish, and pool. Also, you could relax in your cottage and listen to the ocean and nature.

It's hard to put into words, but the staff (esp. Carlos) became good friends in only a week. We did 2 tours per day (all included), and they will make the vacation whatever you want it to be. Attractions like waterfall hikes, nature hikes, snorkelling, swimming, countryside tours, swimming in the mountain rivers or hot springs - it is limitless. All in groups of 4-10 people with 2 guides. I can't recall a moment of boredom. I loved eating from the land as we hiked our excursions. Dominica is truly a special place, and Jungle Bay is the place where you want to stay - I will be back. My wife and kids would agree, I hope you can sometime experience what we did!
