I spent a week at Cocoa Cottages on my own in January and loved it. This is the anti-hotel - no keycards, no anonymity, no need to lock your door at night... guests and staff are refreshingly real and friendly. The owner Iris is amazing and ever accessible for information on the island or just good conversation. The rooms are beautiful with a handmade feel, very creative, colorful and clean. Plus everywhere you are surrounded by rainforest! I stayed in the "Patchouli Room" which stands alone and even has its own front porch. The home cooked meals here are better than anything I found in town - all locally sourced ingredients and enjoyed around a roundtable (repurposed from old cable spools and barrels!) with fellow travelers. There is even homemade chocolate made right on the property - experience Willie Wonka magic if you're lucky enough to poke your nose into the chocolate room! Of course you don't want to spend all day in your room, so it's also nice that the cottages are located in the center of popular island activities. (My personal favorite was Extreme Dominica Canyoning, which is right next door!) If you choose to spend your mornings and evenings here, you and your soul will be well fed.
