“Amazing! Beautiful! Incredible!”

My husband and I, along with our best friends, stayed at Papilotte for a week in June, 2011. It was absolutely fabulous. Although we rented the 2 bedroom ( w/ kitchenette & private sulfur bath) for a bit more, any of the rooms would have been perfect. I actually checked out several of them. The location is gorgeous. You'll be surrounded by lush, beautiful forest and gardens, and enjoy fresh cooking each day. There are more day hikes than we had time to do. Each one is great. The entire property is open-air, with hummingbirds EVERYWHERE. Although we were there in June & expected mosquitoes and bugs, we were amazed that there were almost none. Really. All of the employees (really, it seemed more like family) are wonderful. Anne (the wonderful owner) does not use any poisons on the property, yet there were almost zero insects and bugs. It was paradise. And I live in Hawai'i... so I have very high standards :-) If you'd like to contact me for more advice about Dominica, please do. We stayed here and in 2 other places: Three Rivers Eco Lodge (HIGHLY recommended) and Gallion On Sea (great location).

Room Tip: The rental house was perfect. Didn't want to leave. However, the rooms are very nice, too.

“Total relaxation”

We have just returned from our second stay at Papillote and still love it as much as the first time! We stayed in Room 12 which has a hot mineral pool right outside it's door and we were in and out of it all day long! We also enjoyed taking a dip in the cool pool at the bottom of the garden where there is a small waterfall with a cold water pool and a hot water pool. It's great to dip in the hot first and then the cold. Totally revatilising!
If you want a tv, phone and all the modern amenities, then this hotel might not be for you but for us, it's what we love about it. A total getaway from it all. The staff are all lovely and so friendly. Ann, the owner, is a gem of a lady!
It's also very close to many of the great places to see in Dominica especially Traflagar Falls, which is just up the hill, a 5 minute walk.
We will be back!

“Paradise”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 September 2011

You heard of paradise, but in Papillote you stay in it. Why? This is what you find at Papillote: waterfalls, hot and cold pools, rainforest, an amazing well kept tropical flower garden spread all over the property, relaxing sounds, and smells. A knowledgeable and enthusiastic guide, Marcel, that shows you all of this with details and a smile. Elegant and integrated in nature main building with a restaurant that serves quality food, from sandwiches to full menu. Helpful staff. Different types of rooms, consistent with the price, all of them with stylish furniture. Closeness to some of the best hikes in the island and finally a warm and welcoming owner Anne, who usually has dinner in the restaurant and enjoys spending some time with her guests. It was a genuine pleasure to stay at Papillote.

“A really special place”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 August 2011

You should stay here, esp. if you're a fan of hot mineral pools, waterfalls, and gardens. There are 4 hot water pools, one of which is next to a gorgeous waterfall, which feeds into the cold water pool that's next to the hot. The rooms are homey and great if you want to get away from TV and A/C. Fans and mosquito nets do the trick. The restaurant food is excellent, if a bit pricey. One really good feature of this place is Alfred, the guy who organizes tours for hotel guests. He knows just about everything about Dominica and he'll take good care of you.

Room Tip: Room #6 has a good cross-breeze

“Gorgeous garden, exquisite hot pools”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 August 2011

This is a lovely place to stay, in a big, beautiful garden with ' private' waterfalls and hot pools. We never experienced anything like this before. How soothing to sit in the hot pools after a tiresome hike or day! The first night we stayed at the Hummingbird Suite which is ok but smallish for the 4 of us (2 adults, 2 kids),and we were relieved to be moved to the very spacious Breadfruit suite the next day, which felt like a real home to us, where the kids could run around and where we had a real living room and even a refrigerator. In short, the perfect place for a family of 4-6! There were 2 hot pools right around the corner. The rooms are airy, wooden shutters all around. Small balcony, and a terrace behind the building. Here in Roseau Valley it's ideally located for trips. Trafalgar Falls is right up the hill, Roseau city, 15 minutes car drive, and it's not far from Freshwater Lake, and Middleham Falls and Titou Gorge. Everything was doable by car. From here it's also a 30-40 minute drive to Champagne Beach and Soufriere, depending on the traffic! We did get lost occasionally but residents are always kind enough to help out. One could well spend a day or two just enjoying the beauty of the gardens and relax a bit. We were there in the off season and tremendously enjoyed the tranquility. Anne, the owner is very kind and she always responded to mail and questions the same day. The staff was very helpful too. We highly recommend this retreat. When we go again, we'll probably want to stay here again - the combination of the falls and the hot pools is quite unique! The restaurant is also good - the quality of the food is fine, but the menu was sometimes a bit limited due to the low number of visitors. Whereas there is a fridge, there is no opportunity to cook a (quick) meal, which is the only thing we missed a bit. In the first suite we had to go outside to catch WIFI signals. IN the Breadfruit Suite the internet connection was perfect.
Thinking of it again, we were in paradise...

Room Tip: Take one of the more spacious suites.
