“Back to nature minus mosquitoes!”

My husband and I, plus our best friends, stayed here in June, 2011. It was magical. Don't come here if you're looking for room service. Don't come here if you don't have a 4 wheel drive OR like to hike a few miles to get back and forth to the road. However, DO stay here if you came to Dominica to stay in the middle of a natural, beautiful setting. The tree houses are very basic but funky as hell. Staying in one would be a "total rainforest' experience. We chose the cabins which were perfect. The waterfall and swimming "Mermaid" pool is fabulous. Jem, the owner, and Steve (who cooks) are there to help. Jem built this place with his own hands ( and with the help of others). He can give you the back-story to the entire area. Don't miss going down to the Turtle Hatchery. It's GREAT! We got to see a Leatherback turtle dig through the sand. It was awesome. Check the nesting season and plan your trip accordingly.

Room Tip: Any of the cabins are great.

“A back to nature experience”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 14 March 2011

We stayed in Rose Cottage for eight days in early February 2011. It is secluded whilst being close to the office and restaurant/bar facilities. Rose Cottage is basically a large wooden structure, with cooking facilities, double bed, table, chairs and chest of drawers. There is a small ensuite shower room with toilet and washbasin. It has a large verandah with table and chairs and a hammock. There was no need to close the large windows, which allowed a through-draught of refreshing air and an occasional bird, interested in finding any food left out, to pass through.

Jem, the owner, and Websom helped to make our stay memorable. They went out of their way to help us when we found our jeep to be unroadworthy and when we managed to get ourselves lost whilst hiking in the surrounding rainforest. On the later occasion, many of the locals from the village of Grand Fond, helped to get us safely back and we became firm friends.

We ate some nights in the restaurant, the food cooked to order by a local chef, Steve. The food was good if somewhat pricey. On other occasions we ate out at lunch times and had a snack in the evening whilst sitting on our verandah, watching the fireflies romancing, listening to the crickets and tree frogs, plus the sound of the nearby river. It was magical and romantic.

As it got dark by about 6.30 p.m. we tended to go tobed quite early, especially as the electricity from the solar panels did not seem to last too long sometimes, and we resorted to candles and torches. Although a mosquito net was provided, we did not use it. Despite being in the middle of a rain forest we did not get bitten. There is a lovely secluded natural pool near the property, part of one of the three rivers that flow close by.

Rosalie Three Rivers Eco Farm is definitely a no frills place to stay but it allows you to experience Dominican nature at its best and make good friends as well. Thank you Jem and Websom.

“Reasonable option for camping”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 10 December 2010

We found this a convenient place from which to explore the central island. We wanted to camp out and we were not aware of other options for doing that in Dominica. There are some cabins up in trees that look kind of cool but they have tin roofs and, since it rains a lot, I don't expect it would be a good place to sleep.

The kitchen, toilet facilities, showers, etc. were very basic and the proprietor doesn't pretend otherwise. This is a very basic kind of place in a small country with a relatively pristine tropical environment. If you want to experience raw eco-friendly this is the place. If you want comfort, go somewhere else.

“Awesome!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 7 October 2010

I spent 2 weeks at 3 Rivers Dominica/Rosalie Forest Eco Lodge with my 16 year old son and we had a great time. The views from our rooms were phenomenal and the people that work at the lodge were truly delightful. My son hiked in the rain-forest above the lodge and even though he got lost and it rained, he truly enjoyed his hike and posted about it on Facebook. The owner, Jem Winston, invited us for dinner and made a sumptuous chicken curry using fresh papayas from the trees on the grounds. There was a grown donkey as well as a 6 months old donkey that were very friendly and tied out around the grounds to act as organic fertilizers and minimize the need to cut the grass. This lodge has put a lot into conducting their lodge as an "eco lodge". I recommend it to anybody if they want to experience nature and great people!
