“Vision of Heaven!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

I am a female, 25, traveling alone. I was looking for a retreat, somewhere to rest and relax, unwind and do nothing if that is what I chose. I did everything and nothing for the 6 days and 5 nights I spent at Crescent Moon Cabins. I was relaxed from the minute I arrived. I was picked up at the airport by David and taken up to the cabins, on the way he stopped by some roadside stores to pick up fresh banana and papaya - best drive through meal EVER! Once I arrived at Crescent Moon, I was greeted joyously with no talk of money, official check in or mobs of tired travelers. Jean welcomed me graciously and showed me to my cabin where I unpacked and got to unwind in my own way before dinner.

The ACCOMMODATIONS: I spent more time on the balcony / in the hammock or one of the beach chairs than inside the room itself, I never closed the balcony door or window, letting the rainforest breezes keep my room the perfect temperature at all times! The view from my cabin #4 was amazing, from my bed I had a perfect view over the valley and canopy of the forest below and when clear I could see the ocean from under the covers. Not too much not to little - just the perfect cabin in the "bush".

The MEALS; I am a vegetarian, my father was a chef and my boyfriend was a chef, I have very high standards for food and lets be real, most vacation spots aren't well known for their vegetarian or vegan fare - that is not the case here! The food was by far the best morning noon and night of any vegetarian food I have eaten on vacation! I ate every meal with them breakfast lunch and dinner always amazing complete hearty meals and their wine selection and rum punch were the perfect compliment!

The Owners & Family - So much love, Everyone was so attentive, helpful and REAL! The best customer service without feeling like a customer. Amazing people who run an amazing place that feels like home!

Transportation - I didn't rent a car nor did I have any need for public transportation. Thanks to David, I had no problem getting to and from my SCUBA trips down in Roseau, and when I got a little head cold he took me to the pharmacy to get some meds. SUPER HELPFUL! TIana was able to get me all the reservations I needed for Diving after I arrived so I didn't need to preplan too much.

I was able to do everything and nothing while staying at Crescent Moon, painting, hiking, photographing the flora and fauna of the island, SCUBA diving, writing and more ... and I never felt guilty hanging around the cabins reading while petting their two sweet cats!

I had the time of my life, the kind of vacation that you don't need a vacation after, where you really feel rested and relaxed when you arrive home. Now I just need to plan my next trip back!!!

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Room Tip: They are all perfection I am sure but cabins 1 and 4 provide a "corner" spot with only one...

“Amazing!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 December 2011

We stayed here as part of our honeymoon in Dominica. The cabin was great, view was beautiful, and the family-owners were more than gracious hosts. What puts Crescent Moon over the top is the amazing food! Anyone who enjoys a great meal or is part of the local/sustainable food movement should make a point to get here during their trip.

“A Jungle Paradise!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 13 June 2011

If you're looking for an eco-vacation on an unspoiled Caribbean island, then get yourself to Crescent Moon Cabins in Domenica. This is not your cookie-cutter, big-box resort on an ocean beach. It's a small, family-run business consisting of four elegantly furnished cabins on the side of a serene jungle mountain overlooking a peaceful valley. Accommodations include all amenities - except TV. Trust me, you won't miss it! Your hosts, Jean and Tiana, will do their very best to help you plan each day so that you have a memorable vacation. Chef Ron will amaze your taste buds at every meal with his culinary creations made of fresh, local ingredients! During the day, enjoy the views of the valley, take a dip in the small pool or let David take you on a hike to the Boiling Lake or the beautiful black sand beaches. At night, watch the stars while you sip an after-dinner drink or count the fireflies from the hammock on your balcony. This is truly a magical place!

Room Tip: There are only 4 cabins. They are all the same.

“Even Better Than Expected--After 29 years!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 2 May 2011

We were returning to this hotel after spending a week of our honeymoon there in 1982. At that time, it was under different management. The current owners have improved it greatly while maintaining the ambience that made it appealing in the past.
The food is wonderful! Ron's cooking leaves nothing to be desired. He uses fresh, organic ingredients, the majority of them grown or raised on site. Homemade goat cheese, vegetables straight from the greenhouse, fruit picked from their trees, hot homemade bread and freshly-roasted coffee beans are rounded out with local seafood, pork and chicken. Not only does Ron cook marvelously, he is generous with his time in describing island culture.
Jean is equally gracious. I enjoyed the books in the library--her tastes in reading and mine coincide nicely. I didn't have my grandson along, but I would have had no hesitancy in leaving him with her to enjoy the large, well-equipped Montessori schoolroom and outdoor play areas.
Tiana provides a wealth of information about sights and adventures to pursue in Dominica. She gives clear directions for finding out-of-the-way places. Roads are not particularly well-marked on parts of the island. Although we had rented a car and did not use David's services as a guide, I would consider that option in the future after hearing other guests discuss their days' adventures with him.
Our cabin was wonderful, with fresh flowers awaiting us when we arrived. The deck overlooking Roseau Valley is enclosed on the sides with rainforest foliage, providing privacy. We could see all the way to the sea; sunset viewing was superb. Furnishings were comfortable and attractive. On-demand water heaters provided plenty of hot water for the shower. At night we were entertained by the sounds of insects, frogs and birds.
Part of what makes Crescent Moon Cabins so wonderful is the location. Some might find the drive there a drawback, but we enjoyed being out on a "less-traveled" road. Driving in from the paved road requires attention. We didn't particularly want to do it after dark, but we were entirely comfortable spending our evenings at the hotel. Other people might be just as comfortable arriving there later at night. I do remember that when we visited in 1982, we took in some reggae at the local night spot and enjoyed that also.

Room Tip: All 4 cabins share a wonderful view.

“The perfect get away”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 20 March 2011

Ron, Jean, Tiana and David are fabulous and knowledgeable hosts. Ron's cooking is the best way to end a busy day of hiking, canyoning, visiting hot springs or just relaxing and reading. David is a great local guide and the perfect hiking companion. We can't wait to go back.
