“Comfortable home away from home with lots to do close by.”

My wife and I chose to go to Dominica because it is known as the Nature Island and we were interested in hiking, snorkeling and swimming. While at Sea Cliff, we got all of that and much more. The accommodations were perfect for our stay, as we love to buy local food and cook our own dinners, sip on our morning coffee and enjoy the fresh fruits of the island. Jim and Gwen helped us decide on which of the many activities and locations around the north of the island we would like best. Pascal, who is a local who works at Sea Cliff was super in helping us in so many ways, he came over in the evenings and we would go over our day with him, he brought fresh bananas and always made very useful suggestions. Mostly, we took the local buses to get around, except on the weekend where a car rental was necessary to get around farther than the local area as the buses are more scarce. The locals in Calibishie and area were so kind, friendly and in a very short period of time, we were welcomed. The area was very safe and we felt comfortable. The location is great as there is so much to do within a very short distance from Sea Cliff. If you are looking for an active vacation or just some quiet beaches to hang around, this is the place. Thank you so much to Jim, Gwen and Pascal for being there to help when necessary and for respecting our privacy at the same time. We'll be back, mon!

“prefer 'no crowds' and found it!”

great, relatively untouched island, not for those into 'all you can eat' and the '7-11 on the corner'. Lovely landscape, beaches, people with enough modern conveniences to get by.
Driving is a challenge but doable, you can easily hire taxis.
It is not for everyone, do your homework and you won't be surprised or disappointed.

“Sometime it rain”

Sometime it rain. Sometimes there are rainbows. Sometimes the prospect is verdant or painted in vivid colours (nothing is grey). Sometimes people give you bananas and sometimes grapefruit. Someone will wish you a cheerful "goodday" and sometimes "OK?". Sometimes you go for a swim or a walk or a drive. Sometimes you just drink Kubuli. Sometimes you find things not marked on a map. Always - you have the finest view on the island and the warmest of wecomes

“Near perfect place to stay in Dominica”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2010

We stayed 5 nights in Sea Cliff cottages december 2010 and we had a wonderful time. We live in the Caribbean ourselves (at the Caribbean coast of St. Eustatius) so we are quite spoiled with the climate, sunsets and lovely gardens. Combined with the fact that we visited quite a number of Caribbean islands and stayed in many different places we believe we are in a good position to compare Sea Cliff Cottages and the island of Dominica with other places.
One of the best things about Sea Cliff Cottages is that it is in a VERY quiet neighborhood. No traffic noise ever as it is on a dead end road, no sounds from neighboring houses as they are well spaced, only the distant murmur of the sea. Delicious! Also the surroundings are safe for an evening stroll, which cannot be said about every place in Dominica or on other islands. Its is a perfect place for people who don't need high tech luxury (but there is free wireless high speed internet which in this case is really high speed) but prefer a clean basic lodging, not in the (often rainy!) rainforest but near the (mostly dry) coast. Managers and staff are VERY helpful, yet leave you alone when you prefer that. Other places could learn from that! As we stayed for only 5 days we did not make use of Prim or other Sea Cliff people to accompany us on our tours and we felt perfectly comfortable. We visited many small (and poor) villages, spoke with many local people and always felt safe and welcome. This too can be very different on other islands. During our next visit we will ask Prim to accompany us during our visit to some nearby villages. I love to make pictures, also from working people, old people and children and I believe with him I could get even more up close and personal to take my pictures while he is talking with them for a more natural look.
During our visit we did not have any problems with insects in the cottage and temperatures are very nice in December (till March). The bed was excellent and all the basic kitchen utensils are there. Just keep in mind that fresh vegetables and fruits are not readily available in nearby supermarkets so either ask management to arrange for that or drive the 30 minutes to Portsmouth (don't hurry, it is a wonderful drive with very nice scenery) opposite the Ross Medical School for a better choice.
During our stay we visited a number of other places to stay in Northern Dominica and we were happy to conclude that we did not find any better lodging then Sea Cliff Cottages. We believe Sea Cliff is a top choice for people wanting to explore the northern half of Dominica. We will return there to explore this part of the island more in detail and remember, if the hiking trails are too muddy, go for the "farm roads" where even in heavy rain you will stay clean, yet walk in an extremely quiet and natural landscape, partly coconut / oranges / banana and partly virgin rain forest. Sea Cliff Cottages is also perfect for the occasional visit to the South-West but it will take 2 hours of (relaxed) driving to reach Roseau so for everyday visits it is less practical.
Can Sea Cliff do better? Hardly. Yet some small advice: make chair pads available for the wooden outside chairs on the porch and put 2 comfortable reclining garden chairs (with cushions!) in the house. These could also be brought outside in summer when inside temperatures will be higher and people will enjoy sitting outside in the shade of those big wonderful fruit trees. We look forward to be back!

“Fantastic Experience!”

Our family of four loved everything about our Sea Cliff accommodation. The cottage was spacious, well-equipped for self-catering and comfortable. The view of Hodges Bay from our front balcony was stunning! Our hosts Gwen and Jim went out of their way to assist us. This was our first trip to Dominica, and they gave us numerous tips about activities on the island. We would highly recommend Sea Cliff Cottages in all respects. We have traveled throughout the world, and this was our best experience yet with a self-catering cottage.
