“Christmas in Nature Island”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 6 January 2012

We spent last Christmas in this fabulous place, first days in the one bedroom cottage and the other half of the week in the studio. We just loved it. Familiar and quiet, eco sustainable, with beautiful gardens, bbq and plenty of details... Everything to cook, cell phone if needed, guides and the great recommendations of Gwen and Jim, who were really nice and helpful. We took local buses and did hitchhiking, the best way to know dominicans, loveliest people in the Caribbean. They are very proud of their Nature Island and we really understood why. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: When it's windy the studio can be noisy.

“Wonderful time, beautiful location”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 18 November 2011

We just returned home from 9 wonderful nights at Sea Cliff. We stayed in the two bedroom cottage with a gorgeous view of Hodges beach below and a wonderful cross breeze. Gwen and Jim were extremely friendly and approachable - and gave great recommendations. They were always willing to answer our questions or make our stay more comfortable. The cottage was clean and well appointed. We loved the freedom of having a full kitchen to cook our meals and the wifi was fast and reliable. There is a guy that drives around in the mornings and sells bakes and roti's - highly recommended. And listen for the conch shell...to buy fresh fish from the fisherman driving around. We didn't ever walk into Calibishie - or spend very much time there but did shop at the Coral Reef grocery store and ate dinner at Calabash restaurant on our last night, which was very good. We opted to rent a car from Courtesy Rental and they brought the vehicle right to our door. We found a renting a car necessary to really fully explore the island and to also be independent. Be wary...the driving was a bit nerve-wracking due to narrow roads (well paved though!) and lots of blind curves - the drivers are a bit crazy there but just let them pass and honk around the curves and you'll be fine. We were never hassled while there, but you will most likely be approached by a local guide at most every trail or site of interest offering to take you down for a fee. For some hikes guides are definitely recommended...others are more self-guided. Nonetheless, this is a source of income so we weren't bothered by it. Hodges beach (down a short trail) is lovely and quiet..there was rarely anyone there when we went and it is a lovely place to hang out or to swim (the river is there as well so you can rinse off in cold fresh water!) Dominica was beyond gorgeous - it seemed unreal at times. You will feel like you're going back in time to a untouched tropical paradise.

“Does exactly waht it says it does.”

I don't think I have stayed anywhere where the description on the web site matched so closely the accommodation. To use an old expression “It was exactly as it said on the tin!”

So just look at the web site – the place is great but you do need a car as the local village is about a mile away but it is a mile uphill coming back, we didn't try walking it but I suspect after a meal in the dark or carrying shopping in the sun it would take the edge off the holiday.

The roti sold by Zanda at about 9am every morning from his car outside are delicious.

Room Tip: There are five cottages, try to get one of the three on the sea side of the road as the views are be...

“Loved it - very peaceful”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2011

We spent two days here on our way from Martinique to Guadeloupe. We rented a jeep from courtesy rentals for two days who picked us up at the ferry terminal as arranged. Would definitely say a jeep hire is the way to go to see Dominica. Calibishie was a good choice as it had a couple of restaurants and a supermarket and the cottages are a 20 minute walk to the village. Cottages are fully equipped with everything needed, great views, everyone was helpful and friendly and best of all it was very peaceful. Don't expect a wild beach party thing in Dominica. We went in October and sometimes it felt like we were the only tourists - only visitors to the fort the day we went, on our own for a picnic at the Emerald pool and both nights in different restaurants we were the only customers. We loved Dominica despite one of the days being very wet - very glad my husband was driving as some of the roads were challenging. If returning I would definitely stay at the cottages again and recommend anyone to stay there who is looking for comfortable, value for money, clean and safe accommodation, peaceful and lovely views. For those interested in timings we took a leisurely 4 hours to drive with many stops from Roseau driving east via the Emerald pool and then north along the eastern coastal road. On the way back to Roseau we went west and then down the west coast taking 1.5 hours.

“A perfect getaway!!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 October 2011

We stayed at sea cliff with our two children in the two bedroom cottage. The view from the deck is stunning and the beach (the nicest that we visited) is only a few minutes down the trail. The gardens were beautiful and Jim and gwen were excelent and more than accommodating and the grounds help made us feel so welcome... We hope hope be back soon. Thx
