“We love this place!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 15 March 2009

We started coming to this breathtakingly gorgeous little island in 1998, and over the years have stayed in a few different places. We like Wind Blow Estates so much that we have come back to it each winter for the past several years. The owners are helpful and friendly, the views are spectacular, and the cool breezes keep away mosquitoes and dampness. The location, about a mile outside the village of Calibishie, makes for blissfully quiet nights. And the unit we rent is fully equipped, spotlessly clean and well maintained. We couldn't ask for a nicer place.

“Great area.”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 26 October 2007

We have stayed at Windblow Estates a total of four times. The owners were very hospitable and knowledgeable about the area and Dominica on the whole.
We loved the area so much that we now own a guest house on the other end of Calibishie.

  • Liked — appearance...looks like a plantation home
  • Disliked — isolated...a mile off the main road

“extreme bad manners”

We didn't get the chance to make inquires. We were barely out of our car when, with no warning, their dog attacked our beloved family dog. After many desperate attempts to dislodge the viscious animal, my husband finally succeeded in lifting the dog away using a chokehold. While I put our bleeding, limping pet back into our car, the proprietress, an American, proclaimed that "it was not her dog" . Then the attacker came running back towards our open car, and when my husband blocked its progress with a kick, the owner then contradicted herself yelling, "don't kick my dog."

So that we could quickly tend to our pet's wounds we began to reverse from their driveway. The owners watched us, with not a word of concern, but rather, the proprietress nudged her husband, grinning, whispering and smirking! This was such an insult added to injury that we called out of our windows that we did not think it was funny. At this point the woman screamed and pointed us to "Get the **** off her property!" I could not believe my ears, but she was so loud there was no mistaking her.

Therefore I recommend, do not attempt to make inquiries IN PERSON -- much better to phone!

Other than that, the place has great wind, but is totally isolated and devoid of character. I would hope they have cable TV.

Being a dog owner at one time I must say I would never let my dog out of a car with out a lish. That is what they did. The two dogs got in a fight. The man went to extreme to seperate the dogs. t\Then through the dog over a hill. Then coxed the dog back to him so he could kick it. The dog thought he was playing. I am sorry but that was extreme. We are not the owner of the dog,but I felt bad for both of them.We were dum founded by the man. He started to get out of the car again and yes I was very verable about telling them to leave our property.

That is the other side of the story.

The accomodation was a relatively new construction, clean, safely located . Don't let Raleigh, the caretaker, borrow your vehicle. He took ours and disappeared for 24 hours. He can get you great fish and fruits, though [you can also pick your own fruit outside your front door]. Unfortunately, there were no water views, [Seacliffs a better location for this] but those of the banana plantation were wonderful. Very quiet, nice breezes, no mosqiotos to speak of. Wonderful area to see the native parrot species. There is a beach in Pt. Baptiste which is one of the nicest on the island [10 minute drive and 5 minute walk]. One side of the cliff is white sand, the other is orange and black. Surf kind of rough in winter. If you have a jeep, it is a great place to stay. There is a great family owned restaurant in Pt. Baptiste, I can't remember the name [though there are not many to choose from], GREAT [maybe the only] place to eat! Make sure you travel to other side of island. The Papillotte Rain Forest Resort is worth a night or two as well.

  • Liked — Remote island hideaway
  • Disliked — Not many sandy beaches on island
  • Tips/Secrets — Stay for 2 days in the rain forest!
