We stayed for 2 weeks in the cottage and we had a wonderfull time. Diving was very good and the cottage is simply the best. Going to sleep with the sound of the sea is amazing ! Karen and the staff did their very best for us to make it the time of our life ! They are really fantastic ! Soufriere is a nice vilage and there are so many things to do and to see on the island !

“Great view”

The diving and the staff were excellent. We stayed at the dive shops Gillette cottage. The cottage was very nice. It's location between Soufiere and Scott's Head was beautiful. The views of the bay from the deck are spectacular. Even though the cottage is on the road the traffic did not bother us. The dogs across the street did wake us up once. I would stay there again and do my diving with Nature Island Dive on my next visit to Dominica.

“Fantastic diving and great hostess”

I've just read the last review about Galette cottage which has encouraged me to post this review. I didn't know whether it would still be there as they were building the road only feet away in February and it was threatened with demolition.

We agree with the last poster that the location is far from tranquil at night - the dogs bark every time someone passes, and it's amazing how frequently people do pass during the night. This was a great shame as otherwise we found the cottage delightful, we loved the louvred sides that opened up to give an unrestricted sea view. And if you are lucky you will spot dolphins, more frequently turtles, not far from the balcony. We enjoyed our evenings sitting with a drink admiring the view. There were lots of bits and pieces in the cottage to make it more homely, and Karen even provided fresh flowers, which were stunning. Karen can't do enough to help you and make you feel at home (just a shame she can't persuade the neighbour with dogs to move!!). They lent us bikes, which weren't in great condition, but were adequate for cutting down the short trip to the dive shop and for exploring the nearby Sulphur Springs. We also kayaked a couple of times using their kayaks, including a trip to Champagne (where the famed snorkelling isn't as good as in Soufriere Bay in our opinion!).

We dived with three different dive centres on Dominica and this one definitely had the best dive sites. The staff were all very experienced and friendly, though we sensed that it was not a totally happy camp while we were there for some reason. Maybe just a blip - others don't seem to comment on it. Sadly we didn't get to dive with the famous Oscar - maybe next time! Though we did do our Deep Dive qualification with Simon Walsh, which was fun. He was a great instructor and also extremely knowledgeable about the island - a good guy to talk to. And a great place to do deep diving!! Yes there will probably be a next time - we didn't tire of Soufriere's dive sites or Karen's hospitality!

“Good Diving Horrible Accomodation”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 16 June 2010

The Dive center at Nature Island in Dominica offers the best diving out of the 4 different dive shops we dove with. I would strongly recommend diving with the Dive Master OSCAR. He is cool and knows hoe to find the good stuff.
As for accommodation they offer a cottage that is on the water front but is literally right in the middle of the main road linking Soufriere to Scotts Head. Its the best stretch of road on the Island but turns to dirt for 40 feet to go around the house. Drivers speed up to enjoy the new road, slam the breaks, hit the pot holes behind the cottage and speed up again sometimes honking the horn for good measure. We tried ear plugs and it didn't work the road is only feet away from your bed. There were also 2 dogs barking their heads off all night long. We were going to spend 5 nights there but left after just one night. A much better choice at the same price is to stay up Roseau valley near the hot springs and waterfalls and drive down to go diving (don't forget to dive with Oscar and tip him well he deserves it). It's a 35 minute drive but worth it. I suggest you stay at Cocoa Cottages.

“Nature Island Dive, Oscar our DM, and the staff rock!!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 May 2010

We stayed 8 days in Roseau and dove 4 days with Nature Island Dive located in the southwest part of the island of Soufriere. Everybody at Nature Island Dive was fabulous from Karen the owner, Tony her son who worked in the shop and a DM, Oscar our dive master for four days, and to Cary the captain of the boat. We all agreed that Oscar was the BEST dive master we have ever had (we have been diving for 10 years with many different dive operations, and have done a few hundred dives). Oscar (a local who grew up in Soufriere) loved to dive, take his time, point our sea life, identify sea life on his white slate, and assisted us in all aspects of getting into and out of the water. He changed our tanks, and when we tried to help, he said, “no, you are on vacation.” He was friendly, helpful, engaging, and talked with us about Soufriere, Scott’s Head, and Dominica. It was so much fun spending time with him and he truly added so much to our experiences diving in Dominica. We enjoyed the diversity of dives he took us on and appreciated the rich and varied sea life. Cary, the boat captain was equally friendly, engaging and helpful. We enjoyed the diving, all of the staff, the dive master, and the service much better here than we did on the NW side of the island. Thanks for contributing to a fabulous trip!!
