We spent a lovely week at the Hyatt Regency. The staff we came in contact with were all friendly and helpful. We have never experienced a vacation where we were made to feel truly welcome by everyone we came in contact with.
The property is lovely and the ground are very well taken care of. The rooms were clean and comfortable. We did ask to move rooms after the first night, as I found the first room wasn't dark enough at night for me. There are no black out curtains in the rooms. The second room we were given was on the ground floor, closer to the pool and dive shop and had it's own patio. It was perfect and I would ask for that room again. One suggestion for the rooms is to add a makeup mirror. Also, as I'm very short, I found it tricky getting in and out of the bathtub and shower. That being said, it's more a personal problem for me than a fault of the hotel.
The pool area is clean and comfortable. However, on Easter Sunday it was a total zoo with children. We went to the pool, but quickly left for the quiet of the beach. I was told the locals are allowed in for a swim for $50 on weekends. Not sure how I feel about that when I am paying Hyatt rates. That being said, on Monday and the rest of the week, the pool area was very quiet. The beach loungers are nice to look at, but not very comfortable. The pool loungers (if you get the ones with cushions on them), are much more comfortable. My only other suggestion for the management is to ban playing with balls at the pool. It's ridiculous. I had read of this complaint from others before going. Kids throwing soccer balls and adults throwing footballs. I was hit 3 times in one afternoon while sitting on a lounger, by the same adults throwing a football the length of the lap pool. It's crazy and someone is going to get hurt.
The food was excellent. Especially the french fries at the Swim bar. :) I don't normally eat ff, but that week I certainly had my share. The meals at SHOR were delicious, and Medi didn't disappoint either. I had read where people complained about not being served quickly enough, but it didn't bother us in the least. We had a week of leisurely meals. Who is in a hurry anyway while on vacation? One complaint we had was that sometimes the food was on the cold side. When I complained, it was quickly rectified. However, it's nice to not have to send your meal back because it is cold. I must add that we especially enjoyed the dinners are SHOR and sitting right up and close to the ocean was just great.
I made two visits to the Spa, and it is outstanding. Nicest spa I have ever, ever been to. Just beautiful, and the staff there are amazing.
All in all, this was an excellent vacation. Yes, it is a little remote from town, but we knew that. We missed not having a casino, but that is not that important. We tend to turn in early anyway, and after a day in the sun, it was fine.
It was our 36th wedding anniversary that week, and when checking in we were told we would receive something in our room from the hotel, after we checked in to the room. Maybe it was because we changed rooms the next morning, but we never did receive anything. This was an extra that we had not expected anyway.
I would highly recommend the Curacao Hyatt Regency if you are looking for a relaxing vacation in a beautiful setting.
