“Resort has fallen on bad times.”

The Habitat must have once been outstanding. Unfortunately, that was in the past. The resort has fallen on bad times and has not done any upkeep. The bathroom in our unit was quite elderly, which is one thing. The nasty of the bathroom was quite another deal. The shower barely spit water that was either scalding hot or ice cold. The "Kingsize" bed was 2 twins pushed together covered in only a sheet. We used beach towels to cover up with at night. The louvered windows had no screens and the biting insects were insatiable. We went there for the scuba diving. Being experienced divers, we know a good operation from a bad. This is not a good one. Safety of the divers is not a priority, inexperienced dive master and searching for a full tank of air makes for a very iffy experience. The resort is quite isolated, therefore, we were stuck eating there. Not good.

“Divers keep out!”

See Diver Medic 911. This place went from first class to disreputable dump that wouldn't even rate a No Tell Motel rating. You can voice your grievances to Management but they will outright ignore you. The only thing that works is the Dive Masters who are really ingenious in overcoming all the obstacles thrown at them by Diversity and the Hotel.
My wife had to terminate her dive on more than one occasion due to O ring issues but the best was her last, short dive when the tank was leaking from the neck at more than 100lbs/minute. Ignore the pretty old pictures of the resort. That does not exist. Give you an idea on maintenance-the pool water had this green tinge that one of our group did not notice and was rewarded with bilateral middle ear infections. You can't go outside without spraying yourself with OFF or you will get eaten alive. They removed the fans from the patios. There used to be dive lockers, note, used to be. Now you are provided with a hanger to store your expensive gear in an open, unlocked area. The food is grossly over- priced for what you get. The menu is highly limited. Even breakfast is not what it use to be. I wouldn't send my worst enemy let alone a friend to this dump The island is great and so are the natives. There are a lot of other, better resorts than this in Curacao.

“Revisited after one year”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 January 2011

Unfortunately I have to agree with most of the issues raised by others below. I say unfortunately because it is a real shame that within the past 12 months since my first review 'Very pleasant stay at junior deluxe suite with ocean view' so much has changed.

We returned to Habitat to finish my diving certificate I started in December 2009 but could not finish due to a medical issue. Dive-versity Staff are excellent, helpful, friendly and professional. I had one-to-one with Andhiella, my fiancé was boat-diving with Clark, Ima and Juanito. Satisfaction on both sides. And we got engaged while diving there. :-)
So the purpose of our second trip was fulfilled and we know we won't be returning back unless the prices go down to a 3-star resort as it, in our opinion, should be.

The gardens were still beautiful and well kept. The restaurant did not change much - when it got busy they were slow on service. Meals remained the same - good/very good.
The main change were the rooms. Some could not be used due to a roof damage and leakage. Our room 660 had broken door - it was not possible to lock it; and there was flood in the bathroom every time it rained - rain water coming in under the window frame. When people below switched their air conditioning on (and it was running 24/7) we could not sleep due to too much noise coming from the roof above our bathroom. Other rooms must have had door problems as well as everybody around was smashing them loudly, which could be very annoying.
Still, room 660 is probably the best ocean view room with a kitchenette you can get, but the price 190 US dollars per night does not reflect the state of it.
We did not use the pool. It was not as clear as last year and all the cleaning we witnessed was when a huge bucket of chlorine-like looking and smelling crystals were thrown in one day. That was before a teenage boy with heavily bleeding knee jumped in.

However, the main disappointment was the 'breakfast order service'. We did not book any meal package so we hired a car for one day and went for a big shopping to the Centrum supermarket. The only thing we needed was a fresh bread every three days. You can order your basic food from a list of food items and beverages and it will be ready for you the next day from 7:30 am. First day we ordered baguettes and a bagel. The bagel was stale and disgusting. When we returned it we were told that not many people are there at the moment and so not ordering the bakery items and so this bagels happens to be at least 2 days old. (!!!) They replaced it by a baguette.
After 3 days they run out of muesli and when we wanted a can of Coca Cola from the list one of the waitresses started to fill a plastic cup from the bar's post-mix. They apparently never had canned soft drinks. So we politely refused this alternative.
The baguettes were the only fresh bakery items as they were baked from a chilled form every day.
Last year we ordered our bread in the small shop next to the reception. It was not possible anymore as the resort came up with the breakfast-order idea. Not good. The shop was not stocking a butter, ham, eggs, soups, sauces, pasta and rice like last year anymore and was overpriced. You can mostly buy souvenirs there.

The work is still in progress, the beach had a new sand put on in mid December after hurricane Tomas washed it away in November. The second (newer) boat pier was still not repaired when we left on 29.12. and no work was happening there anyway. The new dive shop is not ready yet. But guys from Dive-versity function very well as it is now.
From the info we got from other visitors, divers and locals everything takes too much time and the organisational skills of the management are questionable.

Diving is excellent, the visibility is amazing and the reef offers plenty of lion fish, murray eels, barracudas. We swam with a giant turtle in 14 meters one day and discovered a huge lobster just under the steps in front of the dive shop. The only uncomfortable thing was too many tiny stinging jelly fish which managed to burn my arm while snorkelling on one occasion; and at least triple amount of mosquitoes. One cannot survive without Off with DEET!

Overall the location is excellent and I am very happy I saw Dive-versity guys again and finished my certificate but that's about it.

“Would wait until work in progress is complete”

Habitat says they are a dive hotel yet the dive facilities (dock) have now been out of commission for 3 months (as you can see by other comments). This resort does have real potential as they are in a great location for divers along with a nice quiet laid back atmosphere. Here are the positives: Diversity dive team is GREAT, nice boat with smaller groups of divers, Evelyn at the front desk was also great and very helpful. Restaurant for dinner was excellent with a good chef and wait staff (slow but good). Great view from Ocean view room, nice patio, nice beach. Negatives: OLD outdated rooms (I would have paid more for better accomidations), kichenette is old and rusted, standing water in the ponds? makes for more mosquitos, 2 pillows in the room (I did get more when I asked), 2 bath towels in the room (I did get more but the maid kept taking them), sheets are like a 150 count, safe in room is rusted and hard to use, bathroom is old, everyday I had to ask that thye sprayed for ants, restaurant for lunch was questionable and slow, gift shop was never open and you could not charge to your room, Internet access was only in front lobby (in 2010!).

“A Work In Progress”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 11 December 2010

Spent week of Dec 1 at "Coral Estates Seaside Hotel" (see logo), "Habitat Seaside Hotel/Resort" or whatever and had a great time. As usual, the dive staff was very helpful. Lion fish population is increasing as expected and coral bleaching from warmer summer waters is everywhere. The Habitat Curacao property was purchased by the Coral Estates Homeowner Association (approximately 300 homeowners) or their property management company about 2 years ago for a homeowner's beach club with a smaller dive operation. See photos of new beach level dive shop. Area where present dive shop is located witll be part of a snack bar type restaurant for beach folks (and divers). A new breakwater is planned so the small dock won't have to be frequently repaired from wave damage. There's a lot of work to do and things move slowly in the Caribbean but it will happen.
