Service was usually quite good. Everyone at the front desk was friendly and helpful, and our maid, Tamara, was amazing. Unfortunately, despite paying much more than you typically would in Cuba, the food quality did not go up by much. While, there was always something you could find that was edible, I was never once impressed by the food quality. The Japanese restaurant puts on a show but doesn't serve anything special. The Cuban restaurant does alright, the cheese is quite good. And the buffet restaurant is mediocre. The drinks are good if you get them from the right bartenders/servers - Daylin, Yudel and Sandy are excellent in the lounge - they will treat you like family. At the beach bar, the service from the gentleman there (I can't believe I'm forgetting his name) is absolutely the best you will find anywhere. He works there every day and is wonderful.
Try to get a room in the bungalows, stay out of the pool (it's cold and even the adults only area is always filled with splashing kids), enjoy the beach, which is beautiful even on windy days, and you will have a good time. Tip generously on the first few days and the service will be wonderful during your whole stay.
