1) The food here was terrible. I have been two 15 countries with all sorts of food.. I am not picky at all.. and this was the worst I have ever experienced. I actually had to fill up on bread because there was so little that looked edible. The last two days of my trip I had the runs and constant neusea... I was popping tums and gravol like candy. By the last few days we started eating at restaurants off the grounds because we couldnt handle it anymore.... Now please dont get me wrong here - I am not saying Cuban food is gross, each time we went out we had fabulous meals.... it was this hotel (pure garbage). FYI the "Italian" a la carte restaurant at the hotel was just as bad. **There is a nice place accross the street from the hotel to eat - its cheap - edible - and right on the beach.
2) The elevator worked for us the first day.... then it was out of order - we were on the top floor of the taller building. Enough said. It was good for burning off all the bread I had to eat b/c the hotel food was so bad... but still.
3) The hotel staff ONLY likes you if you tip them. I tipped - staffed liked me and the people in my room... my friends in the other room didnt tip as much and the staff were SO rude to them. Make sure to bring money to tip the bartender's and the crappy a le carte restaurant server. Also, if you have old clothing in good condition, leave some items on your bed in the morning with a little tip for the cleaning lady. They loved it.... and they are less likely to take your stuff if you treat them nice.
4) Location was really good. There is a really big souvenir market type thing beside the hotel.
Please pay a little more and somewhere better... really. It was really bad.
