“Another Wonderful Trip to Allegro Varadero”

We just returned from our 2nd time to this resort. When we went last year they had been renovating portions of the resort. This year the have reopened the Cubana Piano Bar, which is beautiful! Same staff greated us when we arrived and were very friendly and helpful (and remembered us). The rooms are clean and Oceanview rooms have a stunning view! Our kids loved it here (each time we have gone). Maids are extremely helpful and clean thoroughly. Beaches are beautiful and lots of things to do on this resort. Only two minor complaints we had were the lack of toilet paper at the beach washrooms (which was only on one day) and the smell that comes from the public washrooms in the main building (even when they are cleaned, however they did not stink all of the time). We are planning another trip to this same resort for 14 days this time in a few months time. I love it here. People who complain about the little things will probably complain about the same things at ALL resorts.
I recommend this resort 100%

Room Tip: pay the extra money and get Oceanview you won't regret it!

“Sixth time @ this resort.”

I've stayed & this resort six times & it's getting better each time.
The hotel has changed owners & managers several times & it's for the better.
The selection of food is far better than the last time I visited, even though it was fine then as well. I found there was a great selection of food in the buffet & you could always get a burger, fries or sandwich at the bar Tropical.
The hotel is being renovated with new lighting in rooms & on the pathways on the resort. There are also now 120 volt outlets in some rooms so you might not need a voltage adaptor, but bring one in case you get a room that has not yet been updated. Adaptors are always a good idea anyway due to voltage fluctuations.
I had an ocean view room on the 4th floor 4203, the room was clean as the cleaning staff are great. The front desk, bars, restaurant, security and grounds keeping staff are great as well.
The entertainment on the resort was very good and the fun club staff keep you busy all day if you want to take part in various activities. The gym was open and has some new equipment, I enjoyed the sauna in the gym a lot. The ocean was great & the beach area was kept tidy which is hard to do with so many visitors throwing their trash on the ground.
The Allegro Varadero is a great hotel for all ages but is a party spot for the 18 - 30 year olds for sure. I will most likely be going back again in April of this year.
I miss the staff and Cuban hospitality already, not to mention the great Cuban coffee and cappuccino.
Please don't listen to the negitive reviews about the resort or food. I don't understand why people write negitive things like they do. If you want the best food in the world or a true 4 or 5 star hotel then go to Europe or Hawii & spend $3000.00 - $5000.00 for a week instead of the $400.00 - $1000.00 that it cost to go to Cuba.
Go to Cuba with an open mind & heart, ignore the little things & you will have a great time.

“Very Poor Experience”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

The customer service here is of a very low standard and that is hampered further by generally poor English language skills.
We had problems with the plumbing, exposed electrics, missing lights, no lock on the balcony door and the main door having to be slammed hard to get the lock to engage.
Despite submitting a written maintenance form and speaking to guest relations personally nothing was done.
To compound the experience, the newly renovated area of the resort had been contracted exclusively to an Italian tour company and the other end of the resort was under maintenance.
We were later moved by our tour company to a more service oriented resort.
In my opinion this is not a good hotel for the British traveller unless you have a good command of Spanish.

Just come back from Allegro. I had a wonderful holiday there. The staff was very friendly and helpful. The room was clean, the maid sevice was excellent.

Activities we most enjoyed: swimming with daulphins, the Havana tour and the Catamaran.

If you want to do activities outside the hotel I highly recommend you contact a taxi driver...His name is Yoel (phone: 0053-5820-9951). This person will help you discover the real Cuba ... he is someone with whom you may also have a good time. He is very nice and very helpful.

PS: Remember to stop at Josene Park for the World's Best Pina Colada.

Room Tip: Oceanview (5th floor)

“our time at allegro varadero”

the staff here are wonderful- food was fine, lots to choose from, their cheeses, sweets and breads are delicious! They served a turkey one night, ham the next, as well as lots of seafood and pasta always. The beach is amazing with lifeguards always on hand. Our room was always very clean. They appreciate tips ( we always gave in cuc's so they wouldn't have a problem exchanging our currency. We also left little gits each day. I asked what they could really use and was told anything was appreciated as everything is very expensive in Cuba.

One thing we found is that the rum that you purchased at the rum and cigar factory is the same price as our hotel store- so that was a nice surprise.

Drinks are not watered down. The only thing I would recommend is bring your own travel mug as the glasses are small.

As well if you like quiet at night don't stay in the rooms above the main lobby as the lobby bar gets very noisy at night. Beatriz at the piano bar is a must see ( she is a music professor at the university and is fabulous). As well the entertainment at night is also very good. These people work very hard for their clients and I would not hesitate to go back - I felt safe and comfortable during my entire stay.

Room Tip: Like quiet - don't stay above the main lobby.
