“loved the resort and beach was amazing”

I can't say much bad about this resort except, getting taking by one of the girls in the entertainment staff. Sold me a salsa CD for 10 bucks. It never had 1 song on it. I was really pissed about that. So watch out for sob stories and scam artists.

Otherwise our room was very clean everyday, the food we had was great. Eggs cooked anyway fresh with home made bread for breakfast. BBQ down by the beach was killer, chicken, ribs, pork, fish and shrimp with rice and potatoes. YUM The a la cartes were good if you stuck with chicken, pork and shrimp. And the cuban sandwich by the pool restaurant was great.

The coffee bar was an added bonus, unbelievable coffee in cuba. We enjoyed the entertainment and the disco. The lobby was a wonderful great room. Really enjoyed our stay, and would prob. go back again.

Room Tip: ask for a room in the 900's or request one close to the beach. away from the disco.

“how to enjoy most at Arenas doradas”

I was there last week of January 2012, this hotel had good sides except the management is careless, and turns the blind eye for complaints.
good sides are more than the bad sides, has a good night shows, landscape is clean, but not public washrooms.disco is nice, so free bus ride 4 times to downtown Varadero, fridge ,TV Tel. and AC even bidet.as of swimming pool I have no opinion, because any pool with bar in it, I don't trust because all the drinkers never leave the pool, so could you tell me where all that drink is going ?
Food which many people complain is not bad, because there are lots of food available, some new some from day before, but all you have to do to open your eyes and search, and you will find always interesting local fresh food.
As the workers in hotel they act according how much you are holding in your hand ! you can buy 3 bottles of rum for 10 CUC, and buy coffee bags as much as you want, exchange rate is 90 cents ,downtown you can get for 93 cents for a $C . Also watch motts clamato bottles are filled with ketchup and mixed with lots of water every morning at the main bar.
So if you have a complaint don't bother and spoil your holiday, either ignore or bribe someone to do the job.

Room Tip: chose building 6 or 7 ,closest to beach, so you can use your room bathroom, public ones are terrible...

went with my girlfriend and our neighbours... unlike other reviews... our room was cleaned every day.. flowers for decoration. the workers there were awsome... very friendly. the public bathrooms werent very clean. but if u didnt like that your no more than a 5 min walk away from your room. yes there were bugs and i did see a cockroach.... were in a tropical country... lets use a little common sense here. as far as food goes. if you dont like bacon and eggs or bbq'd chicken, ribs, pork or fish then you wont like the breakfast buffet or lunch on the beach. i personally loved it, i would go back next year for sure. this was my first trip to cuba so i dont have anything else to compare it to but i was more than pleased. and for the people who said there rooms were never cleaned.... try digging into your pockets. leave the maid somthing from the dollar store. the maid maid it a point to thank us every day for gifts.

Room Tip: we were in building number 9.. nothing wrong with anything in the room.... the safe didnt work but i...

“how to survive arenas doradas !”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 February 2012

I was there late January 2012, I find this hotel has good features but management is careless .
security , disco, entertainment, landscape, coffee bars, free bus system to downtown for 4 times and location are 5 star, The food that most people complain are not that bad ,its abundant and fresh but you have to search, imagine they had everyday fresh shrimp ,fresh fish , great pastry and lots of seasonal fruits.
rooms are basic furnished but still clean ,there is fridge, air condition, TV, even bidet .
in my opinion the management letting workers steel and ask for tips, you can get 3 bottles of rum for 10 CUC from any bar, buy coffee bags as many as you want cheap, on the beach every vendor after selling something has to pay a share to the security guard, even when you ask a drink with motts clamato ,trust me I saw with my own eyes they are mixing kethchup and water and shaking in motts clamato bottle, probably they are taking home the real stuff home. and i wonder how many fresh foods that is supposed to feed us gone to employees house, these things I noticed within a week , don't you think management doesn't know? probably they are partners and collect percentage at the end of the day,the richest ones are the bartenders, scooping money non stop, that's why after 3 days if you tip you get service fast, they make more money than doctors of Cuba.So if you go that hotel , try to solve problems by yourself which is bribing directly, and you will have less stressful vacation! and enjoy your stay.

“WORST hotel I've been to in Cuba...”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 8 February 2012

I went with 26 of my friends for a grad trip. I love Cuba and always had a good time until I went to this resort. I'm not a picky person or looking for luxury. I just wanted a clean, well functioning resort. All I got was a big safety/health hazard.

The only good thing was the beach. The club was nice but no people.....just my group!

NEGATIVES:

1. Rusty holes in the bath tub with bugs

2. No working lights. We had to come to our room early to get ready in daylight for our dinner outings.

3. Cockroaches in our room. My friend was getting hives and she got tested back in Canada after the trip...she was allergic to them. We saw them in the resort lobby so we knew they were around.

4. Horrible food. HORRIBLE. I was eating chips with ketchup because nothing looked safe to eat. Meat undercooked. Ran out of vegetables and cheese. Pizza had only clumpy cheese and sauce! It tasted worse than a rotten pizza pocket. We had a group of 26 people. 6 people got really sick and couldn't enjoy the rest of the trip.

5. It looks like an old church (no disrespect) on the outside.

6. Staff was friendly BUT they were allowing people in our group to take out keys to each others rooms without any identification or safety measures. How is that possible? Strangers can get in your room?!?!

7. Broken glass in my room. Room never cleaned.

8. An "all inclusive" that ran out of everything apparently. Our pizza later on in the week had no cheese. They ran out of cheese, potatoes, alcoholic beverages. All that was left is the worst type of rum.

9. The hotel was empty? Not many people around and nothing to really do.

Hope this helps. Please for your own sake, there are way better hotels than this in cuba.

We paid way too much for the crappiest experience. All 26 of us agree we would never go back and couldn't wait to come home. We can have fun anywhere but this was just horrible.

Playa Pesquero was amazing. Bella Costa another amazing hotel. They aren't even that expensive.
