I don't know where other people stayed, our experience at Kawama was horrible. I understand that Cuba is a 3rd world country, you still have to to everything reasonable to ensure your guests have a great time. To eat lunch and dinner off the resort it just unacceptable to me. The room was absolutely terrible, however our maid did everything she could.with what she had. The bartender asked me for my swim trunks to give to her son????? We are not 5* travelers and we have stayed at many 3-4 star resorts, in Cuba. This was the worst stay by far and was the worst 2 week winter vacation we have ever experienced in fact we have never booked a 2 week vacation since!!!! Believe me folks, spend the extra $$$ and stay somewhere else. Cuba is a great country, beautiful beaches and the people are amazing, Just don't stay at Kawama and you will be all good.

it is an old resort and shows its age but it is clean and the staff r very helpful. however should a person go in with a bad attitude(and body language says alot) then you would be ignored until u calmed down.the staff live off of the tips we give them...hint hint. i found kawama to be under staffed. the staff that were working , worked very long hours , so being patient with grumpy insulting people would be a challange. should you take the time to talk to your maid, the security guards, the doorman the gardener, you would find out how very freindly and eager to please these wonderful cuban people are.
we took 3 tours, the jeep safari -awesome ! the trip to havana- very good ,but i'd nix the tropicana cabaret, just a bunch of naked dancing . the rest of havana was cool. the best tour for me was the catamaran boat tour. the bar on the boat is inclusive, the staff on the boat were incredable ! there was snorkleing ,fun in the sun on a small island i cant remember the name of, lunch was included which was a bbq'd yummy! and then we went to see and be kissed by the dolphins !
always make sure to have lots of pesos to give to all the wonderful staff u meeet.
one last thing... kawama is central to so much! havana was the farthest away and it took 1 1/2 hours , varadero is just around the corner from kawama and easy to walk thru. you can feel safe here. the cubans love their tourists , they want you to be happy and comfortable.

I didn't know what to expect, being my first time in Cuba. We had an amazing time and have nothing negative to say about Cuba, our resort, or our experience!

Sure there are ups and downs, but that's the point of traveling and living new experiences. If you go there expecting 5 star service and 5 star food, you are obviously going to be disappointed... But I didn't have expectations and I was amazed!

Don't listen to all the high-maintenance folk who complain about this place. Unless you get sick, or food poisoned, robbed, etc. but that happens everywhere. Club Kawama was safe, fun, easy going, good food and good drinks, and I loved every single staff member we had!! They have 2 restaurants plus the buffet, multiple bars all over the resort, and at night they even have a snack bar right in the middle.

It's right off the strip, so you can easily rent a scooter and drive around all day! We went to check out this private beach and snorkled. We also rented a car and drove to Havana, like an hour away. We did a jeep safari which took Master Card and was extremely fun!! You get to drive a jeep, a boat, and swim in a cave!!

Well when the 8 of us arrived at 9pm we checked in..... No bus boy helped us to our rooms and the the place is very big and in the dark u don't know where U ARE GOING... also no map of the resort!! so when we got to our rooms 2 couples were ok with there rooms... one couple recived a handicapped room and the other full of mold...

All u get is two pillows per room no mater what and they are so flat!!! and the sheets are not fitted so everytime u turn over no sheets left on mattress!!! hide your toilet paper when maid cleans your room or u will not get new roll.....I always left lots of stuff for the the maid she was always very thankful!!

FOOD first of all can not stand the smell of the room that u eat in.....EAT outside... same thing
EVERYDAY~~~~~ Sticky rice Sticky pasta with a tomato soup sauce or a thin white sause..... I did not eat any MEAT at all ..... If u go bring peanut butter they have great bread.....

At the bar beside the pool I found that if u left money for every drink than they were nice..other then that forget it... and everytime u tip they ring a bell!! STUPID...... There is a grill there That is open from 10 till 5 they serve hotdogs, hambugers and ham and cheese...

I Think that the staff here is not very nice at all unless u tipp them every single time...The only people that seem to be treated well are the ones that have been there many times...

there is a odour of sulpher lingering around the resort starts around 4am till 8 and the smell was so bad it woke us up (not the resorts fault they have no control of this but it is there and it is very very STRONG...

Before we left we read alot of the reviews and we went with an open mind we new the food would not be that great but.... it was worse then I imagined

I had a great time with my friends....I enjoyed giving stuff to the poor people..I learned alot on this trip about the history of Cuba...But I know I will not be returning....
