“Rafaels Excellent Dining Hall Service!!! Please ;Tip The Servers!!”

Hola Amigos of the officers club!! Kevin here; brrrrr is it ever cold up here in Canada! Wish I was home with you guys! I want to thank-you all for my lovely stay at your club! What a blast of fun! Just what I needed! Hats of to Andre the activity director and the beautiful girls that entertain you in the pool area! A job well done! Kenya you were above and beyond the call of duty! Carlito, you were wonderful! Dining staff well dressed and food was excellent for a 2-star! Security guys were professional and did a good job! Front desk staff were very friendly and my representative Felix did an excellent job! No problem at this hotel! Felix would solve any problem that you could come up with; wonderful job Felix! The Cabaret at the Tropicana was just out of this world fantastic! I thought I was dreaming! The girls were beyond Exotic! Food and service in the Tropicana dining room was excellent! Dont forget everybody that in Cuba it is very important that you tip the servers at all stations! Kitchen, pool grill, chamber maids as well as the front desk when changing your currency!! They rely on us to be generous! You can also tip Felix as he is the best! They really need every peso that you can give them! A peso is the norm for good service! These people deserve to be tipped properly! Please, if you can, bring 30- pound test fishing line and smaller packets of fishing hooks and weights for the maintenance staff! They rely on this to feed their families; as these people live off the ocean and what it provides for them! If you can; buy masks and snorkels at the Dollar-rama. They are only $2.00 for a mask & $ $1.50 for a snorkel! This enables them to harvest food from their waters! They will thank-you from the bottom of their hearts! The shows were well done and very proffessional. The disco was alot of fun and the music and D.J. very professional. Noa you are the best! Every-body has fun at the Costa Morena! The drinks were free at the disco, but make sure you tip the bar staff! Dont forget the wonderful singers in the dining room! A peso each and they are all happy! It does not take much to make a big difference in their quality of life! I will return to this Hotel again & again! The security at the airport was excellent and a job well done by all! Also I would ask everybody when booking your holiday that you ask rep. at Canjet for extra humanitarian aid baggage allowance. This allows you to bring free of charge 44- pounds of clothes for the cuban people! Clothes are like gold to them as they are very costly and out of their reach! Old running shoes and sandals are highly prized! Crocs also are a very good present! Please; do go to the Costa Morena and enjoy! These people are very happy to see you and will go out of their way to please you! See you all at the Costa Morena real soon! Bye for now everybody, Yours truly Kevin.

“don't pay more than 450.00 for this hotel”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 22 December 2011

I have been here 4 times now .The food is repetitive and not much of it. Had things stolen from my room that didnt lock.Full of old single men with really young Cuban prostitutes. Now don't get me wrong for 450.00 /all inclusive I will deal with it BUT there is no way I would pay 600.00 to go here...for that price I can go to Dominican and be catered to instead of harrassed for all my belongings. I am not rich or I would be going someplace else,I cannot afford to give my shoes and clothes away .
The people here are running scams with the chambermaids telling other workers what is in your room so they will ask you for something they know you have in your room.I have been asked to bring cell phones and computers !!!I do tip the wait staff and bartenders and still get terrible service and some are just plain rude ! I will not be returning to this hotel as I checked out the buccanero and will be taking my vacations there from now on...only 40.00 more and sometimes cheaper and no harrassment while I spent 2 days there. The Costa Morena has different sets of rules for different people.Another couple we met said they will not return again. The scenery is pretty ..no beach and the pool is only 3.5 feet deep (no deep end)

“Wonderful place for nature lovers”

I have been in Costa Morena 12 times, and keep going back, there must be a reason!!! Right, Inexpenxive, quite, sourunded by mountains and sea, spacious confi rooms, good food and exelent service with a super entreateaiment at night and great disco, that overlooks the sea. Never go to Costa Morena before Dec 20th, unless you like to mix with the cubans, which, i like very much, This hotel is perfect for single or couples, no children and no families, it is not for you, no beaches, but a wonderful sea pool with a bar, I laugh and reject, reviews saying, " Do not go there, it is not safe" , nothing is more safe than cuba, specialy in this hotel, and no one will steal from you or your room, maybe the person who wrote a bad review, was an old man that brought a prostituete from the street , and was so deunk, than did not rememnber his name. Believe me, This place is paradise, and i invite you ALL to spend a nice vacations, without luxuory, but confort, and fun and overall , nice honest down to earth people, as i said before, between dec and april, is the best of Costa Morena. ps... do not forget to tip and bring presents, they all will apreaciate it, See you all for the greatest New Year Party in El ranchon Disco at Costa Morena.

Room Tip: best rooms are on block 5 and 6

“Avoid the low summer season... better yet, avoid it altogether!”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 3 August 2011

We just got back from Islazul Costa Morena. This was the first and last time there. It appeared that during the low summer season the hotel puts away all the amenities advertised by the agencies, and the hotel standards. There were no bikes, water sports, etc. Venezuelans and Cubans were the guests, and then a handful of Canadians. We couldn't play ping pong or pool because the Venezuelans kept all the balls in their rooms until they left the hotel. The hotel hygiene was very poor. When we first entered our rooms we were greeted by five different animal species: roaches, flies, crabs, lizards and wasps. There were two different swarms of flies at the buffet: the actual flies and the Cubans, who waited for the restaurant to open to run inside and scoop out all the cheese from the spaguetti. I think the actual flies were faster to get to the desserts, though... The food was not only the same every day, but really BAD! They dumped a bucket of yellow (orange) juice on top of the leftover guava juice without rinsing the coolers, and call this mixture "tropical juice". If the taste is fruity but unrecognizable, call it "tropical". The phones, tv, and showers don't work properly. Check in was late because the chambermaids were in a meeting! I could go on forever but you get the idea.
The towels were badly soiled with blood spots and feces, no matter how many times they were changed. I took very disgusting pictures of this! You should already know that there is no beach nearby, so you are stuck with the pool. During our time there, I saw little kids peeing in the pool and the staff didn't bother to call the parents about it. The water is only changed once a year, according to the guy who adds a ton of chlorine to it every morning. The water looks slimy green. If you are traveling with your children do yourselves a favor and go somewhere else. Don't expose them to watching 60+ year old tourists with 20 year old girls publicly expressing their "love".
