“Great Location, Great hosts”

I was recommended this Casa by a friend of mine who was there a few years ago, and she was absolutely right in recommending it. Its super centrally located and you can walk to all the major attractions. We walked all around Old Havana and got to see everything we wanted. We were four girls, and even after dark, we felt safe walking around the neighbourhood.
Aurora, who doesn't speak English too fluently, was an absolute sweetheart. She helped us out with recommending some good places to eat and even took a look at some cigars we bought when we thought they were fake (turns out they were real Cohibas, just stolen:(
Her husband,Julio who does speak ENglish, was very helpful as well. Their son, also Julio, helped us when his dad wasn't there and his mother needed to tell us something and we didn't understand. She speaks quite fast and doesn't slow down ! hahaha she was still pretty awesome:)
We were given two adjoining rooms, and shared one bathroom. The rooms were accessible using one door that opened up to the main seating area. The two rooms were separated by a door and the bathroom was in one of the rooms. Im not too sure which bathroom you'd use if you were in the room without the private bathroom, but I'm sure there was a washroom someplace else. BUt it would probably mean you'd have to walk out of your room to the main sitting area and walk to to bathroom from there.
Both rooms had A/C that worked. We did have a small issue with the toilet almost flooding, but it was solved when we asked them for a plunger (kinda gross...but its good to know)
The rooms were super clean and Aurora made us a nice breakfast. It was not included in the price of the room (which was 30CUC each) but it was healthy and delicious (be sure to try her freshly made juice!)
The four of us would totally recommend this place.
Thanks so much for being amazing hosts!

Room Tip: try and get the room with the private bathroom to avoid walking in front of other guests or the host...

“Great location and friendly owners”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 9 May 2011

This casa is located in Old Havana, the balcony has nice views over the water and gets a nice breeze. Plaza Vieja is only a 5 minutes walk from the casa, the Cambio and bank is about ten minutes. Julio can organise taxis to the bus station and he also makes calls to other casas if you wish to travel.

There are two rooms, one is a little bit smaller then the other. There is air conditioning which is a must in Cuba! Julio speaks English, his wife Aurora and their son Julio Spanish only. They also have a labrador, Tomi - if you are scared of dogs they will keep him closed away. Aurora is a good cook, we had a couple of lovely dinners there and you can also request breakfast.

We had some very interesting conversations with Julio on life in Cuba. They also give you enough warning to make sure one doesn't take their camera, passport and money out at night...just like one wouldn't do in any developed country either! While we stayed there there were two other guests who had their things stolen while out dancing at the Casa de la Musica at night. Don't leave your bags, passports and large cameras on the chair while dancing!

Internet is dial-up and slow in Cuba, not cheap (CUC6 per hour). You can ask to use their Internet and pay the same amount if you don't wish to make the walk to the phone shop. There is only one place in Havan Vieja for Internet.

The casa is very safe, you can only get in if they recognise you from the balcony! We would stay with Julio and Aurora again!

Room Tip: Ask for the 2nd room on corridor

“Excellent casa, friendly hosts, great location!”
5 of 5 stars Reviewed 19 January 2011

2 mins from main areas and sights. Safe location though streets are unlit which would be a worry any where else. Julio and Aurora are so welcoming and friendly you feel at home straight away. Julio speaks english and Aurora just a little (If she mimes a chicken she is asking if you would like an egg for breakfast :-) ) Food was great and plentyful. Room was spacious and clean. Would highly recommend.

We stayed here for 1 night and immediately felt home.
Aurora and Julio are such wonderul and hearty hosts! One of the highlight of our trip in Cuba. And the dinner just the most amazing we had during our whole stay on the island.
If you look for a real experience, I can just recommend it.
Perfectly situated in Habana Vieja, 5 min away from Plaza San Francisco/Plaza Vieja.

I stayed with my brother for 5 days in this lovely casa. Señora Aurora and Señor Julio are very nice, caring peolpe, who make you feel at home the minute you walk in their door. Our room was very clean and so was the rest of the house. We asked if we could have diner in their casa and they cooked us the most wonderful chicken and tuna! We felt absolutely safe in their house and left our luggage with cash money and camera in our room without a doubt. The location of their casa is very good, it is in the south of Old Havana. Indeed in a 3 minute walk you're in the middle of Habana Vieja (Old Town). At night we sometimes felt a little bit unsafe in some streets of Havana, but you can walk to the house via the shore (av Paula) which is lit and not scary at all.
Señor Julio speaks english and his wife Señora Aurora not really, but she is used to communicate with foreigners, so if Señor Julio or their son was not around we figured out what she meant most of the time (we don't speak spanish).
If you want to take some salsa dancing lessons we can recommend Sr Raymond & Sra Silvia (Lamparilla 261) also in Habana Vieja, very good dance instructors!
Our experience at Casa Aurora was great and we can recommend it to anyone! Have a great holiday!
