“Real colonial mansion feel if you stay in the Prado or Capitolio suite.”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 30 January 2012

We stayed in the Prado Suite of this hotel and loved it - two story, winding wooden staircase, twelve foot high windows, enormous wooden shutters, two small balconies. Bathroom was nicely finished in marble, good toiletries. Breakfast was in the main floor bar, nice setting, food pretty good. Got excellent advice from the concierge (Jorge?), but all the staff were friendly and efficient.

Room Tip: Splurge for a Prado or Capitolio suite!

“Very good, super location, a little expensive”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 28 January 2012

We stayed there for 5 nights in August. The hotel is located very close to the Capitolio and it's a walking distance from the most important areas of La Havana. The rooms are very nice although not large but they're spacious enough and very clean. The staff are not very professional - as all staff in the city - but it was OK. The rooftop with its pool is a nice add-on since it offers a great view of the city. Generally, it's OK but it was a little overpriced.

“Lovely Hotel”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 January 2012

This is a lovely hotel, we stayed over the Christmas period, it was overpriced and there are cheaper options close by which are just as good, but it has a great rooftop pool with fantastic views of the city. The room we had was very noisy from the street, our balcony overlooked a side street and both vocal and vehicle noise went on all night, for this reason alone we would choose to stay elsewhere in central Havana as we have experienced quieter hotels in the centre of the city.

“Great hotel bad location”
4 of 5 stars Reviewed 24 January 2012

Stayed at the Saratoga hotel for 3 nights on the 11th January!
Hotel is lovely....we stayed in a junior suite which was spacious and simply decorated!
The concierge was very rude and unhelpful when asking for directions on a map!
Location is in the rough part of Havana so be prepared to be hassled more than than other areas of the city!
We later moved on to the Santa Isabel and was far superior in every way....location, staff friendly and easier to walk to restaurants etc.
Oh food in restaurant was not good either... Don't rely on food description, it is not what it says!
Also woman front of house is very scary, maybe that is why they are empty most nights!

“Mixed feelings”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 23 January 2012

We stayed for 3 nights, and then 1 night after our trip to Santa Clara, and left with mixed feelings.

The good: Roof top pool is a real treat, with great views of the city, a bar and restaurant. The rooms are decent size-wise, with spacious clean bathrooms. The location of the hotel is also ideal, being right next to the cigar factory and the Capitolio (both currently closed for renovations), and Obispo street etc. There is also free wifi in the hotel which worked well.

The bad: do not accept a room on the 2nd floor - like many others who left reviews, we were left with "half windows" and aptly named our room "the dungeon". For the second part of our stay, we therefore insisted to get a room on a different floor. Our window situation was resolved, however the noise which comes from the streets was still extremely loud. We would wake up at 6am from the people/cars outside. This hotel is definitely not for light sleepers.

All in all, mixed feelings when we left. We might try the Parque Centrale hotel next time, which apparently has similar rooms and also a roof top pool, still in a good location.

Room Tip: Do not accept a room on the 2nd floor or you will not have decent windows!!!
