This is my second review for this hotel . Stayed here in december of 2009 and now in Dec 2010. I paid about US$35(Vacacionnar) per night and will not pay more than that. I was given room 708 this time which also has a living room area and access to the patio.
They need to get new mattresses.
No complaints yet again, clean no bugs, breakfast was my usual, egg white omlettes and my own organic tea bags and the fruit from the breakfast room.
Great location, clean and no problems with staff.

I read reviews of this hotel before arrival and they seemed to be 50/50. I think some agaents really put the price up and so clients may be expecting a more luxurious hotel and they are therefore disappointed. For me this hotel was excellent value. Situated in a near suburb of Havan , about 15 mins from the Capitol building, the area is not touristic but just full of ordinary people going about their daily business. It is a 1930's-1950's style, but also with many older decorative buildings.
I needed to do a number of things and had no idea how to go about them. This hotel's staff were absolutely helpful in all ways, making (free) local calls for me on my behalf, as I did not speak spanish, and helping me with directions on how to get here and there, even telling me which local buses I could take. They were all very patient and put up with my endless questions!
The price included breakfast buffet, as much as you wanted, and consisted of cooked eggs, bread, coffee, juices, cheese ham, fruit and pastries.
I would like to thank all the staff who helped, Mercedes, Martha, Lisbel and Beatrice, who were all very nice to me and worked very hard to please the clients.
I would certainly recommend this place to anyone who wants a budget priced hotel in a reasonable area, near to the center of Havana, and I will certainly return there in a couple of years.

I traveled with a friend and we booked this whole trip through an agency. Hotel Vedado was rated a three star, we went with it because the upgrade was another $150 PP, and the Trip Advisor reviews (recent one's) were pretty good. We were really disappointed. Although we really didn't want to or expect to spend much time in the room, for the price we paid we both expected more. The A/C unit leaked all over the floor...literally like an inch of water all over the place our entire stay. Beds were not much better than a piece of foam. The pool was out of order while we were there as well. Breakfast was okay...eggs made to order, lots of breads and pastries. The one positive was the downstairs bar where live music was playing every night. However, a simple Cuba Libre was $4 pesos. Cuba is not a "cheap" destination to travel. Internet at the hotel was $10 pesos for 30 min. Everywhere we went we were paying what I would consider American or European prices. The location is okay...a taxi to old Havana was $10 pesos each way. We really wanted to be closer to the old Havana section, (which was where we spent most of our time) and had we taken the upgrade we would have. All in all we had a great trip, I just wouldn't choose to stay at Hotel Vedado again.
