Love to be on this area: you have the famous malecon, Havana's sofa by the ocean, a mere 5 minutes walk away. There is also a good choice a private restaurants nearyby and a couple of clubs/disco as well as the famous jazz bar "la zorra y el cuervo" (the fox and the raven). I like this hotel (which is now a complex together with hotel st johns) because it offers terrific value for money. Those complaning here should come to England and pay £50 a night to sleep in a dump. I would understant the dissapointment if you pay over the odds by if you pay what I pay (£14 per night per person incl. breakfast - http://www.cubadirect.co.uk/hotels/info.aspx?id=451) then is simply impossible to complain. £14 per night for a great location in the Caribbean! Come on guys ... be fair. Breakfast is buffet which means you can feel your belly and no need to have lunch because in the heat of Cuba your body will ask for a lot of liquid. Hotels were also recently refurbished (I know St Johns used to have problems with hot water - not any more) ... So: you have a nice pool, great location, fantastic price, decent rooms ... if you are on a budget, I cannot recommend enough these 2 hotels: Hotel Vedado and Hotel St Johns

I had booked this hotel on site - being in Havana, and I really liked it. It is inexpensive option, and it is nothing special, but for the money I have nothing to complain about, just the absence of Internet. Room was good and clean, a/c worked just fine, the location was safe, it was easy to get the taxi for 5 (3 if you are not in front of the hotel) cuc to go to the city center. And it is really close to the Hotel National, where we had walked for the concert.
Breakfast was poor, but had eggs cooked to order and toast, again, for the price, it is easy to have breakfast somewhere else.

The room was clean although spartan, the water hot, air conditioning worked, lots of tv stations, soap available but no shampoo, etc. The maid was a little forward in announcing her day off--make sure you leave a tip in other words. Glad I was in a single room as one bed was terrible, probably there since the revolution. The usual petty theft you find in Cuba in making change, in the bar and restaurant, which is disheartening. Complimentary breakfast was ok, eggs made to order, an assortment of fruit and veggies, enough to fill you until lunch. This hotel was adequate if you're out all day and returning only to sleep, freshen up, etc., would not recommend it for vacationers who want to relax at the pool, etc.

hotel is in need of a close down and complete refurbishment. Locals queue up to use the pool so not much room for residents unless you get there before 9am!!! You must go to Casa Espanola in nearby Miramar (taxi 5/6 CUC's). Absolutely gorgeous paella.
