Having stayed at two other hotels in Havana in the past week (Plaza and Parque Central), I would say that this was definitely the mid-range option. Currently in the process of renovations, it still has a colonnial/european charm. The inside/outside courtyard, snack bar and pool are lovely.
The reception staff don't seem to share information or knowledge with each other, each one will give you a different explanation. The porter however was very helpful.
The "rooftop" terrace with that iconic view of the Capitol building is closed for renovations and even when it is open it is reserved for VIP's only. The Garden Terrace (the current alternative) still charges extortionate prices for food and the food is not that great. Although the singer/pianist who sings a variety of ratpack/beatles tunes was fab. The main breakfast/dining room on the ground floor is fine although food and service not so great.
Do not rely on the Internet working here at all - better off to go to the Business Centre in the Central Parque next door, where they seem more IT literate and the PC's are a little more up to date.
My room on 7th floor overlooking the Prado with the Nacionale in the distance was fantastic. The room had been renovated beautifully and the furniture was fabulous. The air conditioning worked well and quietly too.
Best to eat by the pool in the great pool bar / bistro or in the courtyard. Staff do not seem to comprehend what "half-board" means, keep track of what is being charged to your bill. I wasnt overcharged but there was some confusion.
Quite a few negatives here but I did enjoy the hotel and it is more intimate that the Parque Central. I would happily go back to this hotel if I could have the room on 7th floor again.
Room Tip: Higher floors the better the view and the quieter.
