“It ls not a jail, but very similar to a downtown big city hostel”

We were staying at a three star hotel in Varadero. We loved it, a little gem, (Club los Delfines). We took a moped to Havana, and it was getting late. So we looked for a hotel for an overnight stay, then return to our hotel. There was a festival, and this hotel had one of the few rooms left. So we took it.

Well for my wife it was a joke, and not a funny one. The double beds, were two single beds, and I mean cot size single beds. The shower was cold at night, and I mean ice cold. The pillows were flat as pancakes, as viewed. My wife slept in her clothes worried about bugs, or someone crawling through the hallway window. Yeah, that's right, the room had a window which opened to the hallway. You could look at the wall outside. The elevator was a two man elavator. Each floor was painted a different color, so if your drunk, you just go to your color, (pink, yellow, purple, blue). The bathroom was moldy, and not clean. Before bed we had to shut the water off on the toilet because it just started to run on its own, (haunted?).

Now breakfast was a one egg, greasy, stale bread, and some fruit. Go down the street, and pick up some baked goods.

The only thing positive I can say is the location. Your right on the front strip. Your down the street from the capital, old Havana.

P.S. I have driven my motorbike across country, and stay outside if needed. If you take this hotel, go alone, don't take your partner, unless they live in the bush, and think roadkill meat is great.

“Simple and basic hotel for simple and basic travellers”

We stayed at this hotel for a week during New year's eve. We had a great deal with the airline company Sunwing including the flight from Montréal and 7 nights at this hotel. So we didn't expect much, given the low price paid.

The hotel itself is ok ... The room was clean (thanks to our chambermaid Ida who really made the difference...), without windows, 2 single bed, a safety, shower and was located on 2nd floor. The hotel is very noisy at night (Havana is a city VERY noisy itself...), we had to use the air conditionning ( not because it was too hot, just to limited the sound of the outside...)

The location is GREAT. It's near of every thing you will want to see in Old Havana. The staff is not very helpful... The days before our departure, we asked to the desk woman if she had any information about our travel compagny (Sunwing) such as the pickup hour for the airport, the phone number of our representative agent, or a way we could have the informations and she told us that she didn't know and that she was not aware of anything... Also she told us that the hotel doesn't have a storage room for the luggages (checkout at 12h, our departure for the airport was at 6h.) so we paid for last checkout (until 6h, 25 CUC) and on the bus back to the airport, we learn that sunwing had rent a room for the luggage... The woman at the desk could at least inform us! But no, any ways is good to make money instead of great service...

The restaurant is very basic. We ate there for several morning (breakfast was included in our deal). But you could find better at lower price. The French Pastry at Inglaterra hotel (2 blocs away) is much better for 2 cuc/pers. For the dinner and supper, we had a pizza and pasta at the hotel restaurant and wouldn't recommand it. You will find great and better food (lobsters, fish, chicken, pork, beef) in the area around the hotel... Go on Obispo street, you'll be sure to find something that please you!

I'll recommend this hotel if you are the type of person who don't spend too much time in the hotel room. If you are looking for a great location, a reasonnable price, and just want a place to sleep and showered, this hotel will be just find. But If you are the type of traveller who enjoy great customers service, who need directions and informations at destinations, or if you want to relax at the hotel, this is not for you...

“I'll never darken its doors again!”
2 of 5 stars Reviewed 25 December 2010

I stayed in three different windowless rooms, no complaints about the cleanliness and the water was hot but some very loud machinery kicks in in the middle of the night making sleep almost impossible. The staff are occasionally surly, my overall impression being that in this hotel guests not spraying cucs (convertible pesos) around are regarded as little more than a necessary evil. There are various scams ongoing, like charging 2 cucs a night to use your own room's safe deposit box and not producing the breakfast menu, so although, for example, you are entitled to choose what kind of omelette you want (like in other hotels in the Islazul chain), you are just given the bare minimum, which amounts to a very poor breakfast indeed. On my return to Havana from my travels, it was too late to look elsewhere and I ended up in a room with no lock, and the attitude of the staff was such that I just couldn't wait to leave in the morning. I would never go back and recommend finding a good Casa Particulare, which is cheaper and the people are great.

“Smelly & Sleepless in Havana”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 27 November 2010

We'd booked 3 nights at this hotel, but were very happy to leave this awfull place.

We had a room with no window (no fresh air), cold shower and very noisy working pipes/airco/boiler. The breakfast was a disaster (smelly fruit) and the elevator didn't work (we'll stayed on the 3the floor). Thus... better options in the neighbourhood.

It's true, it's cheap, but for that price we'll recommend a casa particulares.
