“do not choose this hotel”

the pool is not clean, the bar at the pool does not have a good service
the girl at the front desk very disrespecfull, rude and careless.they tried to charge me for a call "i supposelly made to US" i dont have relatives in US I explained it wasnt me!!this was not nice at all.
I will never go there ever again, plus i discover the beaches at havana are dirty and not very nice, you have to watch out for your things as some locals will "steal" your stuff if you leave unatended or get distracted.did happen to me but to other turists family all of their stuff were gone!!!
is better to choosee Varadero, I got to go once i took a taxi from havana it cost me 100 dollars but it was worth it, the beach , the peopleand the turists everything was much better.
Havana people try to rip you off w prices so remember to bargain for everything.
if you want to visit Havana go for a one day trip, but is not worth it if you stay the whole week there becasue then ya have to take taxis to go the beaches outside of havana, and this adds up.

lovely staff but the ants and flies and stray cats around the restaurant are very worrying. Also the bungalows have no privacy you can hear your neighbours snoring and passing wind I am very lucky that the couple in the room next to me were not getting on and only had to hear them argue. It was quite frightening and caused me nightmares to be awoken by german voices... the air vents are shared and you could hear everything and have to breathe their smoke in as well as all the other bodily smells. Thank God they did not have sex. Be careful also if you could be mistaken for a Cuban because the germans will try to buy you.

Room Tip: you can hear everything and be heard due to shared open air vents between the bedrooms. Also bewar...

“Mediocre/Adequate and cheap. You get what you pay for. Could be vastly improved by a decent management team.”
3 of 5 stars Reviewed 29 December 2011

Didn't really like this hotel but I would return if the price was right.
It was adequate but didnt have a good feel about it.
I wanted to be in Havana and I didnt really come for quality accommodation.Price was a consideration so I have a bit of a you get what you pay for attitude.

Havana is a wonderful city and this place is 20 minutes out of the action in a 10 peso taxi.
there is also a regular tourist bus pick up nearby which enables you to travel in and out of the centre on a "hopper" bus for 5 pesos about £3.35).with the added benefit of a bit of sight seeing and orientation on the way

If this is, as I suspect, a renovation project then this could potentially be a good hotel. As it stands there is a very smart reception and restauarant/ bar area. and they are working on the rest (I hope)
I stayed in a "bungalow" room which was well cleaned, spacious and comfortable. The grounds are slightly unkempt and there is a feeling of decay and delapidation especially around the perimiter areas. There are probably very good economic reasons for this following the collapse of the Soviet Union and the resultant damage to the Cuban economy over the last few decades.Consider how may Habaneros live in crumbling buildings and it feel churlish to be too critical of the physical state of this cheapish hotel.

If you have a swimming pool however there is a duty of care to your guests to clean it.This one has ear infection or worse written all over it. Why not fill it in and plant a flower bed if you can't be bothered to look after it.

I felt there was a "couldn't give a damn" attitude from too many of the staff. That ranged from the self important surly reception staff to the hoards of staff in the dining room intent on pinching food whilst the guests hunted for glasses, plates, tea bags, cups or somebody to cook a tortilla. I felt sorry for the two staff members who were actually working.
I don;t mind in principle if staff in Cuba get the benefit of a bit of free food at work but let them help themselves after the guests have been looked after. Impressions count.

I am not sure if this hotle has a big city attitude problem with a significant number of staff or just really bad management and staff motivation. I had travelled from a hotel out in the sticks where the staff were wonderful.
Friendly, hepful and motivated staff do help create a good vibe and in my opinion are more important than luxurious reception areas.

I estimate that this place was only 20% occupied at a busy time of year.

Room Tip: Don't expect too much. Remember this is a cheapish hotel an in Cuba. Don't be too picky. It...

“Will never go back there again”
1 of 5 stars Reviewed 12 December 2011

We arrived at El Comodoro on the 4th December 2011 at 3.00am after a delayed flight of 5 hours. The 2 ladies at the reception were rude, unfriendly and dismissive. After checking us in, we were assigned to Bungalow 829 and told that the bellboy would help with our luggage. The only thing the bellboy helped with was giving us the wrong directions to our room.
We eventually managed to find the room with the help of one of the security guards on the property. Our room was right at the end of the hotel, next to the main road and was upstairs in complete darkness. We had 3 big suitcases with us and had to carry the suitcases by ourselves. Only then did the bellboy come and ask if we needed help.(we declined his offer at this point as he assumed we were going to tip him if he did help)

The room was cold, bland and had no hot water.all sockets were hanging out of the walls and there was only 1 blanket between 3 of us(was a 2 bedroomed bungalow). We requested a new room but was told none were available at that time and to wait till the morning.
To add to our misery, after an hour of sleep, we were woken by a siren of some sort and what sounded like a concert. We got up, still had no hot water and went for breakfast.Breakfast was ok, although there was no butter and cutlery, no greetings from the staff either.
After all this, we had had enough and decided to change hotels. Upon checking out, the staff were still not responsive and couldnt have cared less whether we stayed or not.

As first impressions count, it was a disappointing result for our first time in Havana. We would not recommend this hotel..

“Great food, slow service, poor room.”

Stayed here as part of a package holiday. No hot water and on the last morning no water at all. The lobby and restaurants are excellent however the service is very slow (despite very nice staff). Bit of a lottery as to whether you'll find cutlery, cups, milk etc at breakfast or even a table (very slow clearing). The room was huge but was generally quite grubby - a lick of paint would make them much better. Wouldn't go back to be honest - plus it's miles from the action in Havana. The city itself is gorgeous and we loved it.

Room Tip: Bungalows were OK although from speaking with friends on our trip, it seemed a lottery with regards...
