having stayed at Hotel telegrafo, an upscale place by Cuban standards, the S. Isabel is a better choice but pricier. Pres. Carter was here, as everyone knows, in 2002. Large rooms with balconies, poorly made mojotes with little rum in them,... located on the Plaza Armas which is very quiet- pedestrians only- and great harbor views from the rooftop bar. Staff is happy to see you- a nice change from the experience at the telegafo where they seem to resent you when you make any query...and they DO understand you.
location is the best feature here and the hotel, for Cuba, is wonderful...but not at all the type a frequent traveler would expect of tourist-hungry country.
