In the past, my husband and I have primarily chosen big name resorts for our trips. But in Bonaire, there are no big names so rather than go with a big resort we chose this boutique hotel. I am very glad I chose Sonrisa based on others' reviews. As others have mentioned, Jacqueline makes you feel very welcome and will fill you in on all there is to do and see in Bonaire. She even helped us schlep our suitcases to our second floor room overlooking the pool--in the rain! Our standard room was nice-sized with a very comfortable king bed and plenty of space along with a welcome mini-fridge and room safe. The outdoor deck with table and chairs was a nice addition, and the deck was a good spot to dry our snorkeling duds each day. A/C worked well on these hot (85-90F) and humid (75%) early December days. Breakfast was available each morning at around 8:15am--not too early nor too late--and included your choice of sandwich as well as yogurt, fresh fruit, occasional sweets, and really great coffee along with tea and orange juice. A sandwich for breakfast was unusual for us Americans, but it was a great way to fuel up before our daily snorkeling adventures. It is a short ~10 minute walk into town for shopping and meals as well as access to the beach. BTW, the whole island is a public beach, although access is sometimes through private property such as Plaza Resort. Good location with no worries about security and good value.
Room Tip: I always choose a high level room to avoid hearing neighbors above, but this is such a small hotel I...
