We stayed a week at Bonaire Fun Apartments in late May 2011. The experience was unforgettable and pleasant. All the rooms open onto an enclosed garden, and all have outdoor tables. A rooftop deck offers evening breezes and views of the starscape at night, and wild parrots and orioles in the morning. The rooms themselves are charming, clean and comfortable (featureing built in concrete couches and beds - cool). The hosts (Roland and Irene) are very kind and gave us great advice on where to eat (we are vegetarian) and especially where to snokel. We had a wonderful time and would definately stay at this place again. Smiley and Sunny, canine co-proprietors are a joy and there was one gorgeous orange tabby to greet guests.
In terms of finding vegetarian food, there is no one specific vegetarian resturant, but almost all resturants we went to would make something for us (and they were delicious). Bonaire has great chefs. Recommand restaurants: Plazita Limona (get the Paella Vegetariano), La Barca, Capriccio Ristorante.
For those who have never been to Bonaire here are a few things to note: It is Hot. The sun is intense. Fortunately it is easy to tell where you missed applying sunblock (those parts just fall off). Drive carefully. There are lots of Lizards, goats, donkeys and dogs to avoid on the roads. Some roads are only wide enough for 1 car. Around 1700 traffic gets intense, although there are no traffic jams at all.
Overall, Bonaire is an unforgettable adventure with lots of cool little surprises we will let you discover on your own.
