“Konfirmed Kon-Tiki Addikt”

This is a very pleasant place to while away a few days (or weeks) whilst escaping the European winter. The accommodation is simple but very clean and comfortable and the service is first class. The restaurant provides excellent meals and there is little need to venture into Kralendijk at night. Kon-Tiki is an ideal base for windsurfing or diving. They have a high rate of repeat visitors (like me!) and very few disappointed ones.

“beautiful view over lac bay, great food and friendly people”

We stayed at KonTiki in June for a windsurfing vacation. We had perfect weather, good winds, sunny days, no rain. We were told there are mosquitoos when it is rainy and when there is no wind, luckily we had no problems at all. At night we saw one or two during sunset but after that we did not see any. We did see many goats and donkeys out on the road, very cute. We stayed in a lovely apartment on second floor with beautiful view over the bay. The apartment was completely renovated, cosy and clean. It was great not to bothered by TV, we red several books, played games and had nice conversations with the friendly staff and other guests at the bar. John, one of the waiters, held a 'crab-race' for the children out on the terrace, which was hilarious! The food is very nice, fresh and healthy, we were planning to go dining in town more often, but the kitchen in our own apartment was handy and the food at KonTiki was so nice, it was not worth the drive in to town. Although it is a 10 minute drive only, we felt very comfortable being 'away from the hussle in town'. We rented a car for a couple of days to explore the rest of the island (the northern part is beautiful, hilly and green with a beautiful lake) The days without a car we rented two mountainbikes at KonTiki and drove to the windsurf centre, which is only a 5 minute bike-ride. We also took a guided kayak tour through the mangrove forest. The mangroves start in front of KonTiki but with the tour you go through channels and you will see lakes, it is vey quiet and pieceful there! We recommend this place to people who do not wish a lot of entertainment and like to be in the middle of nature.

Room Tip: on second floor you have more breeze and a beautiful view over the bay

“Avoid by all means!”

This hotel belongs to my short list of worst hotels ever visited. Below follows an inexhaustible list of some of the major inconveniences experienced:

1. BEACH: Beach resort does not have a beach, nor access to the ocean. The hotel calls a big pile of gravel in front of inaccessible shallow bay water full of plants a beach.
2. LOCATION: Hotel is completely isolated and located in the middle of nowhere. You can't get anywhere without transportation.
3. ROOM: Rooms are not waterproof! A member of staff literally informed us that it is surely obvious that when it rains hard you do noy have to expect that your room remains dry.
4. ROOM: Room designs are completely out of date, probably not redecorated since hotel was built (think 1970's).
5. ROOM: Rooms do not have basic amenities such as a television.
6. ROOM: various wasps' nests on site.
7. ROOM: not cleaned daily, towels not changed daily.
8. SERVICE: Service is awfull. Owner prefers to get lunch rather than to attend to guests, even if no single other member of staff is available.
9. FOOD: ants walk through the, very basic, breakfast buffet.
10. Too much mosquitos.

11. BONAIRE: lovely quiet island (best snorkling, scuba diving and windsurf sites worlwide). STAY in another hotel and do not forget to visit Jibe City at Lac Bay (cool beach bar).

Room Tip: All hotel rooms are believed to be crappy

“wonderful, family friendly and upscale”

we couldn't wish for a better place- Lac Bay views, gourmet restaurant on premises with a personal attention to your needs.
Breakfast "all fresco" is in and of itself worthy of stay here.

“Peaceful & relaxed, great location for windsurfers!”

I have stayed at KonTiki 14 times in the last 16 years, so that says more than what I can write. It is a nice place to stay & I enjoy it here!
For windsurfers it is the perfect location since you are a 3 minute drive to the windsurf beach(there is only one on the island) and it doesn't feel like a commute. From the room decks you can see Lac Bay and get a feel for the day's wind conditions. The rooms have a bedroom(s) and another large area that has chairs, couch, dining table and a kitchen.

Kontiki is family run and all the staff are very friendly(they all speak English).
Since the rooms all have a kitchen you can cook in or on site there is a very good restaurant with outdoor & indoor seating when you don't feel like cooking. The restaurant serves breakfast, lunch & dinner.

This is a great location to unwind, relax & not feel hurried. This side of the island is very peaceful and it feels like you have it to yourself. It is pleasant to walk at night(no stray lights so you can see the stars), whereas other lodging locations have barking dogs that make walking not so pleasant.
